BK - I liked the way Lo Wood looked as well as Austin.

Amir is really going to be able to help us too.

Hmm ... This makes me wonder, for the millionth time on this board, who the staff sees playing NT in 2014.

We are going to have a spread of 300 lb'ers that should be able to play all positions across the d line.

If Ferguson or Brown can't beat out Smith that would be a huge disappointment.

Thanks GITF! This post directly intersects with what I have been musing. And to take it one step further, what about a dime package with a four man front?

OMM discussed this in another thread. right now, you cant look too deep into who's running out first, in this first week. sometimes veterans are getting the nod just to show the younger guys how to do the drill better.

also, kelly in his post practice presser said that having Smith in the slot creates a bigger body on a potentially bigger body. almost using him as a blocker or TE split out.

let's not read too much into 20 second glimpses of drills or personnel groupings from day 1 in spring.

I never said Steve Young was bad.

Haha, I was just kidding around.

But it did seem like you were saying left-handed QBs were bad. Of course that's untrue; there have been some great ones, like Steve Young. But maybe you just meant that you personally didn't like playing with left-handed QBs because everything is backwards; of course that's a common sentiment and there's nothing objectionable about it.

It's rather slimming on him don't ya think.

This is one on the funniest things I have heard in a long time!

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>BK: Veterans like TJ Jones, Troy Niklas and George Atkinson III stepped up their game.</p>— Observer Sports (@ObserverSports) <a href="https://twitter.com/ObserverSports/status/314381092679475201">March 20, 2013</a></blockquote>

That is almost the offensive trifecta. (One could argue it is in reverse order, but these three guys are going to open up the O!)

Umphreak said this earlier, but right now Kelly's running the vets on the 1st team because they know how to run the drills.

wish i could take credit--i was just regurgitating the brilliance that is OMM. but, thanks for the nod.

1st team WRS were TJ, Davaris, and Daniel Smith.

2nd team was Brown, Ferguson, and Neal.

When I first saw this I wondered how the 1st-teamers were lining up, because I don't think of any of those three as a slot guy, but apparently Kelly said he likes Smith in the slot on running plays or other blocking situations. per BGI

A couple other depth tidbits (apologies if posted elsewhere):

-- Although he is listed as an OLB, Rabasa worked as the backup WILL, next to Moore. (Fox is still recovering from shoulder surgery, so Calabrese worked as the #1 WILL, next to Grace).

-- Shumate worked with the 1's at safety next to Farley. Collinsworth and Hardy were the 2's, with Baratti still recovering from shoulder surgery.

Stephon had a procedure to correct a sports hernia. I am sure he will be taking it easy this spring.

Someone mentioned a couple of times in a couple of threads how Tuitt and Day didn't look so sharp at the end of the season, Day with a hyper extended knee, and Tuitt with a hernia! NO SHIIT ~ TALK ABOUT PLAYING THROUGH PAIN! Kelly confirmed that it cost him some leg flexion, (flexibility) and lateral movement! No kidding. Just think, another case where as Kelly stated, we were pinned with irreplaceable injuries. Now look how deep we look at corner, safety, on both lines, and at running back!

If Cam can run like he did in garbage time against some of the better D's we will face, then I have no problem with him being in the 2 deep. Some may think he is just a slow white boy but he is a bruiser and gets tough YAC. GAIII can be the lightening to Cam's thunder. GAIII hasn't proven just yet that he can run between the tackles where Cam has and GAIII can rip off 30+ yard runs to the outside. Obviously they both will have to hold off guys like Amir, Mahone, and in the fall 2 very talented freshmen. But I think Cam will surprise some people. I don't see him just getting on the field during garbage time this season. Kelly even mentioned last season that the only reason Cam didn't get more touches was because of the logjam at RB, not because he wasn't good enough.
