A thread dedicated to the 2013 Heisman Trophy race. Post your predictions, analysis, etc.

I'll update on a weekly basis with analysis from around the web, latest vegas odds, etc.

For the latest news and analysis, I recommend Heisman Pundit. Chris Huston does a great job breaking down the Heisman race throughout the season. He also writes for CBS sports.

Marcus Mariota (QB Oregon) 12/1
Aaron Murray (QB Georgia) 14/1

We might as well title this thread 'NDWorld247's new hotness" in reference to the new avatar you'll be rocking the night of the award

Oh yea? What do you have in mind?

And just so our bet doesn't get lost in that other thread, here it is:

NDWorld247 predicts Clowney to win it. ACamp1900 disagrees.

ACamp1900 wins - I get to change your avatar to anything I want for one month... (30 days)

NDWorld247 wins - I give you 5 mill and you get to change my avatar to whatever YOU want... 30 days.

If I had spare cash, I'd bet the house on Bridgewater at 12:1. That's easy money.

I would bet big on Miller... I'd take the field against ANYONE just about any year... but if I had to pick one guy this year... Miller.

With all the attention Teo brought to a pure defensive player never having won the award and the insane hype that will be surrounding Clowney, I think voters will be looking for any excuse to vote for him.

If he has 15 sacks and a couple highlight reel plays I think he takes it even if he isn't the most deserving, a la Charles Woodson.

Taking Ka'Deem Carey as the dark horse. Led the country in rushing last year and got more prolific as the year went on...over 900 yards in his last 4 games (366 against Colorado on 25 carries). Lost his QB, but Arizona could be dangerous again.

EDIT: That said, it will probably go to a top 5 team, which Arizona is not.

yeah, I don't see how Arizona could have a Heisman winner even if they DO win enough games to get that high... not saying I agree with it, but the Award these days seems to be "most hyped player on the biggest 'name' team in contention for the BCS"

Zona will need to build credit if my feelings are correct.

Bama, despite only playing two or three losable games every year prior to the post season usually finds a way to drop one... if the one they drop is the SEC title game... done.

I'd take the field just about every year against the preseason number one team... even WITH their schedule this year... I'd still take the field.

With that said, the Bama studs could def. win the Hesiman even if they don't play in the title game...

Notre Dame goes Undefeated but Rees doesn't win the Heisman as his Two Top 10 TEs get all the credit for ND's success and siphon off votes.

Eddie Vanderdoes gets 3 votes as ND's Starting MLB.

And those two or three games are A&M, LSU,and probably either Ga or S. Carolina. And then play whoever for the title. Not many teams in the country would want to play those four games.

Respectfully, I don't even know how good A&M and LSU are going to be this year... So half of your schedule is a conference title game you may not play in and a title game you may not play in...

so TWO losable games..... I'd trade our schedule with that and sleep very well at night.

If Jadeveon Clowney doesn't win the Heisman Trophy, the award will be going to someone who's no better than the second best player in the country.

Safe to say that my Tide will play four teams ranked in the top 13 in the country. And with maybe the possible exception of LSU this year, the three other teams would be favored or even against every ranked team on your schedule. Just sayin'

I don't think it's safe to say bama will play for the title just yet, and I don't what A&M will bring to the table (especially without JF) considering they were a middling Big 12 team that was laughed at this time one year ago... I believe what is safe to say football is a grind and bama's 8 or so other games are not even close to comparable to many teams (our included) 8 or so 'worst' games... and that's where things creep up and bite most teams... a dynamic Bama doesn't have to worry about in the slightest due to only playing two losable games in the reg season...

my two cents.

Top to bottom I think the Irish schedule is more consistent. But there is nobody on the Irish's schedule that I think has anything close to a decent chance of beating Bama. I can't say that about team's on Bama's schedule.

I would say your two best games are A&M and LSU right???

I would say our two best games are what? Stanford and OU???

Let's just go with that for now.

I don't buy A&M yet, one half against OU and one quarter against Bama does not make a program world beating... and for the record i have been open about not being sold on ND being back either. I simply am not sold on a team that was a middle of the road big 12 team (you remember, that terrible conference SEC fans love to laugh at) for years..... and honestly, because of the same dynamic I explained earlier… I believe firmly if A&M had stayed in the Big 12 they are not in the BCS last year…

With that said I feel OU/Stanford is at worst comparable to LSU A&M… at least same typical ball park… but for arguments’ sake I’ll give you the more difficult top two…

What happens from there?? Where is Bama’s Michigan? Michigan State? ASU? USC? BYU? And Notre Dame plays UM, MSU, Purdue, ASU, OU and USC all in a row… sorry just about any team, even Bama, most likely loses a game in that run just because of the week in week out challenge of it… again, the GRIND is what gets most teams as football is not played in a week to week bubble, it COMPOUNDS with every difficult game… where is bama’s grind??? I’ll say it’s harder to beat a six week run of average or better D1 schools and stay unbeaten then it is to play two subdivision teams, one average team, a D-1 bottom feeder and one REALLY good team like say an LSU…

That’s my basic thoughts on it… I will also disagree that bama has multiple teams that can beat them on their schedule but ND doesn’t have ONE… That reads like blind SEC homerism honestly.

Again, we get along fairly well and I mean no disrepect, you've been good here for a while... but we def. disagree here.

No problem. I respect your opinion. But maybe this is a topic for a whole other thread. Let's hope we both win out and go at it one more time in January.

The Crimson (and SEC) koolaid is strong tonight, Tommy. I think Stanford is the best team on either schedule and would trade for Bama's schedule over ND's any day of the week. I wish we only had two difficult games with a bye week before each one. I will concede the potential SEC championship game is added hurdle ND doesn't need to deal with, but looking at the regular season, there's really no comparison.

But to get back on topic, I think McCarron has a legitimate shot at winning this year if the field is void of top notch candidates like last year. He won't be flashy, which will hurt, and he won't have video game numbers, which will also hurt, but if he leads the team to another undefeated season and is the most efficient passer in the country, he has a great shot. I predict he'll be sitting in the front row at the Heisman ceremony, but will be congratulating Mr. Clowney when the award is announced.

Alabama always has its cream puffs for sure, but at least they've been scheduling decent matchups for Week 1 in recent years.

Most SEC teams usually play College of Charleston or something as a Week 1 scrimmage. Not only is it weak, it helps get around the old 'player discipline problem', because you get to suspend all your bad boys for the "first game" without losing a step.

I did give them credit for scheduling UM and PSU ... that was very atypical for a top SEC team...

credit due.

AJ may be there but I think the Yeldon presence on the team will hurt his chances. And Clowney will probably be there as ESPN will pump him up - much like Woodson from year's past - even though he doesn't need pumping up. Miller and Bridgewater should be there as well. I look for one of them two to win it IF they get to the presentation undefeated, which may be very likely.
