How about this question. If TR was our starter all year last year, do we replicate the season, actually lose a game or two?
Thank you! That is what I am getting at. While tommy has better stats EG was the better quarterback. Back to original point Williams can be the better player than shembo with less attractive stats.

Even though I do not see it happening.

What's the latest on Romeo? Has he been moved to DE or is he playing LB? Anyone?

We would have lost Pittsburgh too. Golson was tremendous in the fourth quarter and OTs of that game, and made plays Rees just can't.
That said, without Rees we would have lost to Michigan. And maybe Purdue. The evolution of our QB situation last year was oddly perfect. Going forward I'd rather have Golson, but we could do a lot worse than Rees.

You gotta believe in Reesus. Doesn't matter what he did last year, or the year before. Golson isn't here this year. I've got faith in Tommy that he'll do well enough to lead us to 10 wins and a BCS bowl along with this defense. While he won't be the same kind of QB as Golson, I think he'll be as good or better than Golson was last year with his command of the offense and his passing. The kid has worked hard all off season, he's paid his dues, time to back him and see him finish his career at ND strong.

Is anyone else having nightmares about ND football games this fall...? I have had at least two of either 1) blowout losses; or 2) not being able to watch a game.

I have issues.

I usually get them the night before the games but its usually a dream where i slept in and missed the whole game or something or I couldnt see the game because of some unforeseen disaster lol

I had a nightmare of temple returning 4 turnovers into touchdowns. I even got the "holy **** this is happening all over again" feeling that I experienced at the South Florida game.

ha - I have to admit I had a similar dream with ND getting beat handily by Temple. I woke up with that old feeling that's some combination of "I can't believe this is happening" and "maybe this team's not as good as I thought..." Had that feeling enough times times over the years to make it feel way too real...

Just a couple thoughts on what's been discussed and otherwise:

- Is anyone else worried that the offense under Kelly has never really developed an identity or one thing they can really hang their hat on that they do exceptionally well? Outside of Eifert last year the offense was pretty sporadic and I think a lot has to do with changing personnel including the QB's. This year the offense HAS TO develope an identity with Rees being the guy and I think it has to be a power running game ala Stanford, Alabama, etc. Rees is limited and the personnel on offense is really built for that kind of attack. The offensive line is excellent, and there is a stable of really good RB's that Kelly has at his disposal. Niklaus is probably the best blocking TE in the country. It's time for Kelly to really utilize the talent on offense and start pounding teams this season. There is enough at WR to at least keep teams honest.

- I don't think Ishaq Williams has ever fit the mold of this specialist LB and should have been developed as a DE from the beginning. He has played out of position and as such his playing time has suffered because of it. He clearly looks more comfortable with his hand in the dirt instead of trying to cover in space. I think he can make an impact as a rush DE.

Offense goes as the QB goes for the most part. Haven't had any real consistently GOOD QB play since he has been here.

I agree on Ishaq. But he's going to have a huge year, just wait!

I've also been surprised by Kelly not putting up points thus far while at ND. But I think he's had terrible luck with QBs. IDK if its poor talent (he's had a 4 star QB every cycle since he's been here) or just bad QBs. But he's had Rees who early on was a turnover mahone, Golson as a freshman, and Christ who just never had it.

He's never truly had confidence in his ND QBs. When that happens well put up 40 a game.

Mike Mayock must be drinking the Kool-Aid too. Who is better? (And don't give me the Kuehnja answer of, "I don't know who is better, but he's not the best" BS).

If anything is our identity, it's been the running game and good defense. I think Kelly is getting away from trying to have a Oregon type offense, and it has shown in recruiting

Seferian-Jenkins is Niklas' size with experience and a track record of not whiffing on blocks, and crazy receiving stats.

We can all whip ourselves into a froth over Niklas' size/potential, but the fact is he hasn't done anything on the field beyond catching a TD on a terrible BC team.

I honestly believe with every drop of Irish fanhood inside of me that we were going to have a monster offensive year this year with Golson at the QB. If you look solely at the last 3/4 games of last year, Kelly was showing so much faith in Golson. He basically let Golson loose against Bama, as he was our only chance of making a play.

I think we will average 10 less PPG this year than we would have if Golson was here. Point is, this is out of Kelly's control, once again this year.

Eric Ebron-unc, jenkins-udubb plus is just flat out a beast of a te, cj from iowa and lynch off the top of my head from georgia....Nikklas certainly could be, but when you are the best you don't have a ton of miss blocks...he looked lost a lot of times out there as who his responsibility was....

So they will average 15 ppg? No way

Some people are acting like Golson was lighting up the score board and stat sheet. I think there will be similar production like the 2012 offense

I agree with that to an extent, but it's also been Kelly's job to develop them and I don't know that he has done a great job of doing so. I also don't think that the offense he runs has not been real supportive to the QB's he has had to work with either. If you have limitations at QB, why not establish and commit to the run instead of trying to throw the ball around the yard and run read option? There is no reason as to why this team can not run the ball down teams throats this year. Hope Kelly see's things the same way.

I agree. I thought Golson was set to go off this year.

I truly believe that we would have averaged 35 a game this year with Golson. If you don't believe that, that's fine. I think he was rolling at the end of the year. And was our best player on offense against Alabama and it really wasn't even close.
