Also loved seeing Malik throwing to Carlisle in some extra work after practice. I'm of the opinion those little things before and after practice go a long way.

That was my biggest takeaway from the video. Malik putting in extra work, looked like he was out there alone by the end with some cones (footwork?). Love to see that.

Nice to hear Bryant's name as one of the early to impress. If nothing else to give GA a push.

Love the quote...."There’s a lot more depth than we’ve had at any time since I’ve been here at Notre Dame."

Just getting started..

Some interesting stats (not necessarily good) in this free 247 article: Practice Begins For Notre Dame

Some that stood out to me:

10 All 10 members of Notre Dame’s staff — head coach Brian Kelly and nine position coach assistants — return intact from last year’s 12-1 team. This is the first time that has happened for the Fighting Irish since 2005-06, back-to-back BCS seasons, and the second time since Gerry Faust’s final two campaigns in 1984-85. Notre Dame is one of 18 teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision this year to return all 10 coaches.

7 Games last year in which Notre Dame scored 20 or fewer points in regulation time. That’s not even including a 21-6 victory at Boston College and a 22-13 triumph at USC in which the Irish tallied only one touchdown. The 25.8 points per game paled in comparison to the other teams that joined Notre Dame in the final top six of the Associated Press poll: Alabama (38.71), Oregon (49.54), Ohio State (37.17), Texas A&M (44.46) and Georgia (37.79).

4 BCS appearances by Notre Dame since the format began in 1998, and it lost all of them by an average of 25.25 points. There have been 29 different programs that have won a BCS bowl, and Notre Dame isn’t among them. This year marks the last chance before the four-team College Football Playoff begins in 2014.

3 Starters returning along an offensive line that has had three straight seasons pass without one of its members getting drafted by the NFL. That’s a first at Notre Dame since college football went away from one-platoon football in 1964. Fifth-year senior left tackle Zack Martin is projected to end that drought, as could classmate and left guard Chris Watt.

Calabrese rocking the Tuck facemask. Badass.

Confused Jaylon with Ishaq before I saw the #.

Some nice glimpses of Bryant, Jaylon, Rochell, and Redfield there, mixed in with the vets.

Tom Loy's comments on Fuller and Bryant:

"Dan and Lou can attest to this, as I've said it for a very long time: Greg Bryant and Will Fuller are special, special players.
I've seen them both in person and they are going to be very good players, especially Bryant.
Robert Foster was the big named wide receiver from PA last year that went to Alabama, but Fuller is the better talent, in my opinion. I've said it for a long time and ill say it again. He will have the better career.
Bryant is simply a workhorse that will outwork everyone in the locker room. He's a terrific kid, a tremendous athlete and he's going to have a terrific career.
I expect both to find time on the field this year, especially GB. However, don't be shocked if Fuller finds his way out there. He's an excellent overall player."

In case anyone else was like me and couldn't recall names/numbers quickly. (I need Keith with his clip-by-clip breakdowns).

Question: Why are Smythe and D. Smith both #87 on offense? Obviously, Smith will see the field and Smythe will probably red-shirt, but still...

Sounds like the only answer.

I couldn't believe from the video, how big GAIII's legs have gotten. (I can see that he carries 220.)

And I was impressed with how thick Isaac Rochelle looked. I remember when recruiting first started, and he looked a little long and gangly. Not any more, and pads will show better, but it looks like he brings it . . .

Three things:
Didn't the speed seem at least a notch up to you, too?
First day of practice and nobody was standing around, wasn't it remarkable how hard it was to pick out the freshmen? (The number of kids first day of practice and they were already contributing to a cohesive unit.)
Kelly pointed out three new guys that looked good and warned off making conclusions; said something like he didn't want fans calling them AA's. NDWorld247, you are funny as hell!

I watched that and immediately thought, "we did not look like this in the first day of camp last year".

They looked sharp, fast and athletic. We might have something here, fellas.

Redfield looks really long and skinny, so much weight that can be added to his frame. He's gonna be Hayseed/Taylor Mays size when done

More Harrison Smith, wasn't Taylor Mays like 6'3 or 6'4 or something ridiculous?

Yeah, I know! That is why I really believe we have something. Whatever you say most people miss "it." Whatever "it" is. My observations, the fact others think the Irish will tank, is all enough for me to start to get a little excited!

Here is Day One by the numbers at UND.COM:

DAY 1: BY THE NUMBERS
20,000: Weight in pounds of ice
800: Gallons of Gatorade (by powder)
607.5: Gallons of Gatorade (by bottle)
500: Different pairs of shoes
450: Total towels brought for the week (despite Shiloh providing over 600 per day)
400: Pieces of chicken breast at both lunch and dinner
350: Pieces of pork chop at dinner
196: Total travel party
116: Total length in feet of trailer truck it took to transport all the Irish equipment from South Bend (two semis and one 26-foot truck)
105: Amount of players that suited up for practice Monday
65: Shiloh's total measured land in acres
23: Student managers
20: Student trainers
11: Laptops distributed to the coaching staff for film breakdown
7: Total dorms being used for accommodations
5: Charter buses needed to transport the travel party
4: Cameras needed to film practice
1: Brian Kelly

Agree 100%. GB sure looks ready to go physically too. I am about to the point where if he doesn't play a sizeable role this year in the running game, I may be disappointed. Gotta get the playbook and blocking down though first.

That video was very short and only highlighted a player/play for a second or two, but that sideline 'stop' for back of a better word, that Amir had looked noice.

the koolaid is delicious this time of year. The real hurdle now is no freaking "out for the year" injuries ala Alex Welch last year. Btw Welch looks have lost all that bad weight he appeared to be carrying in the spring. Looks like his old self again

Did all of the freshmen have their names pasted to their helmets? Is that just so the coaching staff knows who they are? Or say "Hey, Upperclassmen, don't get beat by one of those guys" ?

I would guess its for the coaches to know who's who without having to think about it.

A lot of freshman are coming in looking for immediate playing time, and that's true for all schools now a days. I don't think the coaches want the older guys to take it easy on them. They want to see how they stack up and I'm sure the freshman want it that way.
