Kelly: Chris Brown is not a complete player yet, but boy he can run. We like his speed on the field. Daniels has it too.

BK: With Chris Brown on the field, Brian Kelly says this will be the fastest team ND has had since he arrived.

I tell ya, it's gonna be great! We may go down in flames but it will exciting as heck.

We're not going down in flames!

What's cool is we are putting the best players out there, a lot of 1st and 2nd years guys! I think we compete this year and look at all the experience we're building for '13.

Aunt Bea is putting on her Party Hat! Good Times!

Thanks for all the updates Ironman. If this is the fastest team ever for Kelly, does it mean this is the fastest team since the very early 90's?

I can honestly say that this is the happiest day that I have experienced in terms of being an ND fan. I've wanted Golson since he verbaled, and now that he is officially getting his shot (on top of Neal officially returning punts and Russell looking like a decent corner as a frosh), I can't stop smiling.

I need to be careful being so thrilled with players who haven't played a down yet, but I honestly believe that we see Golson as a Heisman finalist in New York at some point.

It's pretty cool they put Golson up for an interview. Surprising but cool.

Seems humble but ready. When I see him bark at someone for missing a block, wrong route, whatever, we'll know who our offensive leader is.

Did BK say anything about WR depth chart? Did I miss that? Are we looking at Goodman, Jones, Toma still as starters with a mix of Neal, Daniels, Brown?

the sad thing is that this is what ND should always look like from a speed perspective and it should be a lot better to be honest. Guys like Chris Brown who are raw but really fast are out there. Arkansas always seems to get these 3 star guys. Kelly needs to go out and get these types of players on offense. They don't have any committed right now. Boyd would be a good get, he can run and has size. But they need a Devon Allen, etc. ND is always a mediocre team speed wise and sometimes worse even though they have good players. Need more speed.

i asked eric hansen this yesterday during his live chat yesterday. his response:

Comment From Patrick--Wilmington
does goody still have the x locked up or any movement by DD, smith, or any frosh to start? great chats by the way.

Eric Hansen: Thanks Patrick. I think Goody starts the opener, but the depth chart will remain fluid throughout the season.

I bolded the wise words.

Curious as to what you think is the weakest position group on the team tho. And Flemming played CAT his whole time here. It was Shembo who was out of position playing at DOG last year.

You are right, who was I thinking of? I know Troy played for Prince against MSU, but who else was in there at dog before Slaughter moved over, or was it Slaughter? That is probably who I met. GB suggested I meant Filer. The idea was coming too fast to get my facts straight thanks for the help! Slaughter was great. Prince had the rush part down, but that was where that ended. Prince is a cat.

This year Councell, Okwara, and Spond, (I pray he is healthy) are going (help) deflate high powered offenses!

Weakest position group? Runningback. Just kidding. Well I could say offensive tackle, because Stanley is on the depth chart 2 deep. But Stanley is really good and will not be denied. I could say the defensive backfield, but you have to understand Cooks and Elliot have performed miracles back there. There are some real monsters coming up. Wide receivers was, but they have made wholesale improvement this fall and we now have two guys that can take the top off of a defense, maybe three. This is something that everyone was afraid of with our wide outs. So I don't know; what do you think?

I think this team, and I started saying this almost two seasons ago, now has 60 players that can play. Up from about 30-35 in Weis' last year. More importantly, I think this is Kelly's team, the players love him, and their is more solidarity on this team than I have ever seen at Notre Dame before. So I think a lot of the "position groups" have solidified.

Only if he spills the Ripple.

EDIT: I almost didn't post this. He is such a good kid, and the program is on the right track. But it came so quickly; judge me swiftly, but be merciful.

Kelly: I think he (Tony Springman) will be on the field on defense. We're pleased with Tony.

Buster, what I'm saying is that everyone is acting like having Golson and Brown and Neal back there is crazy exciting. I agree. It is. The sad part is that people should be expecting that ND has a dynamic athlete at all these positions. They may be raw sometimes but that's ok. You have to have guys like this. ND is flat out slow or only average at the skill positions much of the time. This is the first time I can remember where ND is pretty fast at the skill positions. But they won't be very good yet because they aren't experienced. We need guys like this all this time every year.

So are you saying that our guys have been quicker than fast?

I'm on to you Mayock

Exactly, but without the quickness part either. Except for Riddick, who is ridiculously quick. Wood is very quick too. But basically, what I'm saying is that people should be very happy that this is the most athletic team at the skill positions ND has had since HOltz. The problem is that they are crazy inexperienced and haven't been in the program long so they also don't know the system that well. People should also be aware that all this talent and speed is in 2 classes and basically only has a handful of players in it. If ND builds on that by getting some more legit athletic skill guys, regardless of their ranking, then we might be going somewhere. Until then, ND will continue to look like a Big 10 team, which I hate.

Um, talking about the system, nobody has been in it that long. Kelly only got here three years ago. And it took him the first year to establish basics. Do you remember the long myopic from Diaco, the first year Football 101, the second year Football 201, the third year 301 . . . The system isn't in place completely, yet. So it is a good thing for guys to progress fast, now. Then they don't have to learn all of the stuff they missed later?

Three of Kelly's assistants have all said you need speed where you need it. They have the athletes.

Notre Dame does not look like a Big 10 team. Wait a minute what does a Big 10 team look like?
