EJ just lost all street cred. Reed committed to Ole Miss.

In regards to Offord, read he's bringing his entire family for the public commitment this weekend. Most likely he's one of the committed players ND has that haven't been announced yet.

So here's a pre-BOOM and Dino is liquored-up in a holding pattern above the thread.

Goes without saying

I really like Offord's combination of size/athleticism. Believe the staff can turn him into a high quality player in a couple years.

Sticking with his July 4 commitment date, per a 247 article.

Unless there is a big change of heart, we should have good news on that day.

Yeah Loy's free story this AM makes it pretty clear he's our's. No more visits and we are his top school. Just sticking with previously determined his July 4th announcment. Interesting that Donte Vaughn was his host and DV "loves it" at ND.

Why interesting? Because of the rumors that he was potentially transferring at one point?

Smart. They're both from Memphis (Offerd just over the line in MS), which is not a place we pull a lot of kids from. Donte can show him the way.

yeah.sometimes rumors are totally wrong. And sometimes players are going to transfer for about 24 hours and then it fizzells out.

I see. There have been players that left ND to pursue opportunities to be a starter somewhere else, that would still tell you of their love for ND.

Donte's last outing was not great, and I know there were rumors that he was looking around, but that doesn't mean he can't be a great ambassador for the school and football program.

In a SBT article this morning, Offord is on record for straight up saying that if nothing catches his eye, he’s committing to Notre Dame on the 4th. It was like an unofficial official commitment. Never seen that before.

Sounds like a decommit waiting to happen

A healthy Vaughn could be a starter for us this year. He has great length and good speed, I'm still holding out hope he can earn the nod.

Man oh man, I do not know what they are seeing here. I completely agree that there are diamonds in the rough but how many times do we tell ourselves that on signing day only to have non production while the players are here? There has to be a reason why only the worse team in the SEC is offering the guy along with bottom dweller non SEC teams. And nothing from Ole Miss or Miss St??? Forgive me but neither of those teams are world beaters.

Is ND just down to so few DB options?

Per 247, he has offers from three SEC schools - Arkansas, Kentucky and Vandy - along with Duke, Louisville and Purdue. Not exactly Murderers Row, and I agree the lack of Home State U offers is striking (though he does live pretty close to Arkansas). But not nothing. In overall profile - measurables, offer list, ratings - he’s quite similar to Clarence Lewis from N.J. who just committed. Just s bit taller and skinnier. They would easily be our two lowest-rated 2020 recruits, aside from the German kid and the long snapper.

It seems we’re still in the hunt for slightly bigger fish, so not sure why he’s a take right now. But maybe they want to lock a couple DBs down and told him to jump or risk losing his spot?

I held out hope that ND would be “in it” for the big fish, but the bottom line is ND really isn’t. Clark Phillips is gone, Lathan is basically gone, Enzo Jennings isn’t likely at this point unless he drags this out, Jerrin Thompson, Malcolm Greene, Ethan Pouncey are all longshots until they’re on campus. I think RJ Moten is committed to Michigan or will publicly in July. Makari Paige won’t come to campus even tho we’re in his top 7. That maybe leaves who? Cameron Martinez? He’s been to campus but not for a long time and seems to be favoring Michigan and OSU. I think the General hope is that Michigan and OSU won’t be able to take all of these DB’s but that’s not a great position to be in. That’s why I think a 3 star with NFL length is a good pickup when they need 6 DB’s and they’ve got 1 committed. It’s not looking like it’s going to be a good DB class but there’s a long way to go

Perspective is important. The above reads like those are all "misses". Paige won't come to campus because he's not being actively recruited that much. Paige, Thompson, Moten, and Jennings aren't being pursued as takes. You can disagree with the staff on that but those aren't misses as they aren't being pursued as such.

Listed were all the offered 4 and 5 stars who have visited, spoken about visiting or have shown some semblance of interest in ND. It was more to highlight all of the possibilities, even if it’s little to no possibility. There’s probably several more names that will pop up in the next 6 months of recruiting at DB. There are gonna be decommits, coaches firings, and recruits who raise their stock in the fall. I think the hope should be to get 3-4 guys on board and have a good base going into the fall. I think Offord, Bartleson and Lewis would be fine going into the fall and then you have the OV season and flip season with some room for flips when guys see how good ND is.

We're already at 3 and that's kind of the point. Just putting out random names that have been previously associated with ND isn't giving a clear picture of what is actually going on. Like, using Paige's lack of visit as an example of the state of DB recruiting seems disingenuous.

"Nothing catches my eye" = the 3 or 4 SEC offers that he'd jump at lol

Unless he plays lights out this year, he's not going to get those SEC offers as he would have had them by now, but I agree that if he gets one, he's probably doing his best pigeon impersonation and taking flight.
