I honestly think Golden could have been that hybrid by himself if they put him in the backfield.

They did for like the entire Purdue game in 2009. The offense was:

1st down: Handoff to Darius Walker
2nd down: Golden Tate in the Wildcat
3rd down: Jimmy “Turf Toe” Clausen hobbles around and throws the ball

It was a very entertaining game.

Armando Allen? Walker wasn’t there in 2009.

Um...Darius Walker last season at Notre Dame was 2006. I'm thinking you mean Armando Allen...

Thank you, my apologies.

But for some reason I’m thinking AA was hurt that game (big shocker!) and they had a weird crew of ball carriers sharing the load with Robert Hughes and Tate.

Also of note: Hughes was clearly a true RB, but Weis insisted on calling him a fullback, trying to pigeon-hole the guy into the spot.

I don't think this a slam dunk at all, I'm not saying anyone is saying that. I think I read it on 247 that the staff is having a hard time trying to get in touch with him and get him back to campus.

Armando is RB coach for Autry Denson at Charleston Southern btw

I loved Armando. Brought some short-area burst that the team didn't have much of at RB under Weis. It's a shame he could never stay healthy, or break that last shoe-string tackle whenever he WAS healthy.

I'd bet Bama or Clemson would win NC's with these guys in a 5 year period.

Darius Walker
Armondo Allen
Armondo Allen
Robert Hughes
Jonas Gray
Theo Riddick

And that's including losing Golden Tate to WR, the real James Aldridge to injury before he arrived on campus and Tommy Z to safety. If he had gone to Nebraska and played QB, he'd have ran for a mile. He could have been Mike Alstott with more shake.

...and why didn't Lou sign Alstott again? Seriously though, can you imagine him, Marc Edwards & Ray Zellars in the same backfield? Including the QB, that's like a half ton of fun.

Robert Hughes would've been as effective as Mark Ingram had he been at Bama. Dude was done a major disservice with Weis' insistence to try and teach him to be a lead blocker, rather than committing to him as a pure RB.

My main point, though, was that Allen was a breath of fresh air as a "jitterbug" type of RB. Walker had nice giddyup, but wasn't quite a speedster in the same way.

Also, I'd argue that True-Freshman Theo Riddick in 2009 would have been the team's best RB had Weis given him a shot. Allen wasn't healthy, and Hughes didn't get an extended chance until there weren't any other options.

Because he enjoyed his UGA visit? Lol

he's running around a little too much for me and likes to be the center of attention. if he wanted to go to ND he would've been a done deal months ago.

so pass imo.

I'd say that he isn't nearly as much of a "sure thing" as he was previously. But I'm not going to pass on him because he's taking visits. I encourage them to take visits now, instead of second guessing themselves when they're committed.

It's kinda crazy/sad that Scott, Henning, and Jackson were all looking looking promising. 2 of those fell apart for different reasons and the Henning situation is looking the same way.

Scott was about as much as a lock to OSU as you could get even before they offered. Way too many connections for him to not go there.

Come on!... Kid is enjoying his visits like he SHOULD, and anyone here WOULD!.... Hes not slighting ND in any way. Let a kid be a kid. If he wants to come here in the end, that all is well and I for one would love to have him. If not, then good luck to him as well.

Actually it's sounds like he kind of is. Refuses to return calls/messages with little to no contact with the staff for months. I'm down with kids enjoying the process and taking visits. However, they should also be respectful of the coaches time as well.

If this is true, I would hope the staff would move their focus elsewhere.

These things don't turn out well for us usually... Best of luck wherever he goes I just don't see it working out well for us even if he chooses us

I don't know about the returned phone calls and such, but all the other stuff this kid is doing I would be doing as well.
I'd milk the recruitment process and go see any campus I could.
He may only get to be the centre of attention for one year in his whole life. Could get to campus and be a bit disappointing and end up in a dog house or get an injury or whatever.

There’s a difference between “milking the process” and visiting schools because you might have a legit interest in what they have to offer. “Milking the process” is a really good way to lose a spot on a team that you want to be on. “Milking the process” recruits don’t work out well at Notre Dame, so if AJ is that kind of recruit then I’ll place my interest elsewhere.

I understand what you are saying but for example a guy like Lenzy seemed like the opposite of ND material during much of his recruitment but now he is here he is impressing everyone and seems like a top shelf individual.

If the not returning calls or ignoring our coaches thing is true, well obv that isnt acceptable.

As far as visiting schools that he might have a legit interest in what they are offering, why the hell not? I guess i'm not sure why a teenager who is picking his home for the next 3 to 4 years, has to know that he is only interested in ONE SCHOOL from the jump. Even if he stated previously that ND was his "favorite", that could reasonably change at any point, which is why a kid SHOULD see what is out there, so hes not miserable and transfers after already enrolling.
