Landing a 5* from Cali from the defensive side of the ball with no ties to ND. I'm not talking about the Houston Griffins from Chicago or the Kyle Hamilton who the staffed pegged as a top target well before he was a 5*. A back 7 player with no ties to ND picking ND over OSU, LSU, Oregon just doesn't happen. That was my point

Well, when you add that many caveats to the discussion it creates a very small sample size. We’ve actually done well on the West Coast, recently, for a team in South Bend, Indiana.

With that said, I’ll go with Biggins and say we’re running top 2 with a slight lead for OSU

5-10, doesn't test as fast as he plays, makes the right play on the ball every snap, high academics.

Those are all the reasons Julian Love was an All American in South Bend and as a package, not your typical CB from OSU that goes to the League.

I know we're never certain but couldn't he challenge for minutes as a true frosh?

I mean Love is gone and Pride will be selected in the first 3 rounds in 2020. Have to believe that's appealing, right?

If he's as good as his rankings, then yeah he could get minutes. Don't forget that Tariq Bracy, Houston Griffith, KJ Wallace, and Isaiah Rutherford will be sophomores and juniors by the time he gets on campus. Those are some very talented guys; the corner room ain't 2014 or 2016 level anymore.

but ohio st didn't offer Julian

so in theory if they offer they must think he's good enough to play there, where they didn't with Julian, or didn't have a spot.

While this is true, it doesn't change his measurables and comparisons to JLove and the OSU CB draftees.

Also, the fact that OSU didn't offer Love shows they aren't flawless at evaluating talent. Technically, Julian is better than almost all of the 9 OSU draftees. Phillips doesn't have 1st/2nd round speed/size, shouldn't he go to the place that gets him on the field early and lets him work on his craft vs sitting for 2 years and showing out for a season and hitting the combine with 4.4 flat 40's?

true

and it seems like that is the end all be all with corners is "can they run"

league is taking the speed and saying we'll develop it. i think osu is taking the same approach.

100% agree julian is technically much better. a sub 4.5 40 he's prolly a top 20 pick

This is not trending in a positive direction. Until he sets an OV, I’d put this recruitment off to the side. Sounds like what people were worried about in the beginning is coming to fruition.

Was always gonna be an impossible task to convince a corner to choose us over OSU with all their recent success

Anyone choosing OSU over ND...or any other school for that matter...when OSU just went through a very public domestic abuse coach coverup situation, had their head coach suspended then retired, and now facing a multiple sexual abuse victim coverup lawsuit is not an RKG and would not succeed at ND.

OSU has always been the definition of a football factory for me

If we run the table again and osu has an off year people might decide it's worth playing school

Ohio State has produced NFL talent at DB far greater than ND in the last five years.

Ohio state has also removed most of those responsible for the domestic abuse coverup situation, including the coach, where “retirement” was an act of saving face on Meyer’s, in my opinion. This sexual abuse story is interesting. For one, it being a man taking advantage of men, which is usually not the norm in the case. To add to the fact, these allegations start in the late 70s and seemed to have ended in the late 90s. Over 20 years ago.

So you could see how the argument of “rebuilding the brand” might be appealing to a young athlete, at a program known for winning and producing NFL players at his position.

I’m not going to say Phillips is not a RKG, or, that he wouldn’t succeed at ND. I just feel he’s buying into the winning program they have established, and wants his NFL aspirations to come true, which Ohio State can undoubtedly help him achieve.

And not to shine the light on the sins of the past, but ND has had issues of their own too, from Declan Sullivan to Lizzy Seeberg. But, I’m not here to bring up the ethics and wrongdoings specifically in this post, just to make a point.

So, really, no one is perfect. I know we are all ND fans here, and we all believe that the University, the athletics and education offered, is some of the best in the United States, but not everyone will come here. Other schools have attractive traits.

Now, as the old saying goes “it’s a long way to NSD”, so even if he does commit to Ohio State, the door isn’t closed until he signs the paper. Maybe ND moves on, maybe not. We will just have to wait and see, won’t we.

I see Clark hasn't SIGNED with OSU yet and had an official visit to Utah last week on the 14th.

Wonder if this may be a flip.

Their class is ridiculous. I think the gap has widened considerable since we played them last.

Should be fun playing them and Alabama in a few years.
