Good luck to the young man. I really think that this is a great use for the portal. His pro chances are probably not great, so with 2 degrees in hand, go take a crack at starting somewhere to see if a Batiste bump is possible, but build your network for life after football.

Freeman apparently told the team that DE was a position they were targeting in the portal.

Nana's decision probably weighed into that.

All the best Nana.
This, they have to go Portal. Nana gave it his all and represented the school great. He just isn't good enough.

Hopefully Portal, gobaira comes back 100%, and Ford/Vernon develop and are ready next year at SDE.

I hope we take a SDE and Vyper in the portal. Burnham and Traore show promise, junior does not. Not sure if Botelho will want to and be asked to come back?

The Athletic in this piece today, stated that Program sources indicated Freeman has already told players that an incoming defensive end transfer is a priority.

You can't lose Nana, JPP and then tell Botelho to leave. You don't have to tell him he's starting, but you can't tell him "no" IMO. If we did though, MF has bigger balls than all of us thought.

italics?

If just DE i would hope that means Mills & Cross back. I'd like to see Onye and Rubio develop more and get more snaps next year but not go from 5-10 a game to 50.

Yeah this is the last year practically everyone will have that Covid year in their pocket. Next year will be back to “normal “ where fifth year will be the end for most

Good luck to Nana. Hopefully Vernon is ready for serious action because even with a transfer he will be called on.

Seems like he has balls doing what's needed with players, maybe not coaches though.

I'd like botelho back if the coaches believe in him. He didn't overly impress this year though. Burnham and Traore have more athleticism.

I hope you're wrong but suspect you are not regarding hard on players, buddies with coaches.

JJB (Javontae Jean-Baptiste) I suppose you mean, right?

I don't think he's hard on players, but he's willing to upgrade their because that's what he does "recruit". He doesn't realize he should be constantly recruiting the staff he wants to retain and new potential coaches. I agree consistency is good, but if you have a hole, fill it. Look at QB if he goes portal 2 years in a row and regrets not going in 2022.

NaNa was an okay player at ND. He has limited athleticism, length, and overall didnt grade out very well during most of his career.

They have a plethora of young guys that will push for a larger role, and DE is a priority target in the portal. They shouldn’t have a problem getting another DL similar to JBB, and they can have guys like Vernon, Ford & Gobiara fight for snaps behind the transfer player.

They have the upside on the roster that they should start to tap into for next season.

You need experience at this position that knows the system. So unless the young guys are really that good and going to pass him this might hurt the defense.

Good luck young man. Thank you for being a good ND football players and a great student athlete!

Sorry just italicized it to show it was a link, not to say anything else about the piece.

This is the type of kid I fully support going to whoever will pay him the most. He's already got 2 degrees. Unlikely to have an NFL future. If he can jump start his life with a couple hundred Gs (no clue if that's how much he's worth, just guessing based off what we've seen some schools willing to pay) in the bank why hell not.

If he had big balls we'd be looking for an OC

Not good - need to retain guys like this. We don't have better waiting in the wings, do we?

Yep, either go somewhere within the top 25 and get paid or take a step down where he'll start.

Fair thee well

Listening to the latest II pod, did I hear correctly that the staff didn't ask Nana back, like they were ok with him leaving? Seemed like the Tim's and Sampson were saying that and didn't agree with that stance.

That has certainly been the word around here, anyway.
I dunno. I don’t think Nana is a world-beater but he was a good locker room guy and solid depth, at worst. If we don’t bring in a transfer at big end, who is our starter next year?
