I've been pretty impressed with Hunter's film so far season to date. Still looks like he's getting used to be explosive off that knee but he's a strong kid that moves well. Gotta think once he's fully comfortable his game will flourish.

Nice! I've heard a couple of the 247 guys say that they think he may be the best DL in this class. Good to see him coming along nicely from his injury.

Do we know what the injury was? With how late it is in the season and how few weeks are probably left, season ending could be something small that just keeps him out a few weeks.

Reporter did follow up tweet an hour ago stating it was an unspecified injury. Excerpt from linked article in tweet

Not playing didn't stop Spears from suiting up with the rest of his teammates. He dressed in full pads, only putting on his helmet to take part in his pregame captain duties.
"He's a great leader ... I feel blessed to have that type of guy in our program," Behrens said of Spears. "He's been making plays since his sophomore year. we love him to death and Notre Dame is going to get a good one."
Spears added: "I knew probably Tuesday that I was probably done for the season, but I knew it would be important for me to be out here with the guys and keep them straight."

Just got around to watching his senior tape. Since he was listed on his IE page at 265 and his junior film I had thought of him as undersized for the DT move the ND coaches put him at, but kid got a lot thicker by his senior season. Definitely has a body of a "lean" DT.

The thing that was most obvious to me is how well he stacks and sheds blockers. He has fairly active hands but more importantly he gets them in the right place to get good leverage. Once he does the high school OL he was up against didn't stand much of a chance. Doesn't have Sheldon Day like burst off the line but that's not the only way for a 3-Tech to be successful. Probably would be the best fit as a 5-Tech because of that stacking-sheding ability but that's also an important ability as a 1-tech or 3-tech as well.

Hunter had some of the best sophomore DL film in his class. If it wasn’t for those knee injuries, I think there’d be a lot of chatter about this young man.

His film post first knee injury was still very impressive. If he doesn't have any knee injuries he is a top 150 play imo.

For sure, to the OP his senior film was still impressive. Just crazy to think about how good he could’ve been if he hadn’t missed so much time. Hopefully he has a Drue like recovery and stays healthy. He could sneak up on people.

Not until recently. It's an interesting move. ISD seems to really like the move and I value their opinion but I don't see it. I know NT and DT are stacked with depth but this seems like it's an Avery Davis situation with nothing coming from it. Hopefully I'm wrong.

There is absolutely no excuse for us to have a numbers issue at OL. Just terrible.

i think its more of DL depth issue. They were saying he is closer to 4th string. its more taking a good athlete and finding playing time.

Well, it's not really a numbers issue long term as we'll have a 16 man depth chart for next Fall Camp. It's for this Spring. We have 3 starters either down or limited. Then we have 2 backups that will also be down or limited. We haven't had attrition like this on the OL, all at once, in a long time. And that's kind of my concern with this move. Seems very short sighted. By Fall camp we should have all 5 of those guys back. Though one of them, Gibbons, seems to be injured quite a bit. Maybe he's a medical.
