he'll probably transfer after 2 years wherever he goes anyways. Very few top programs will have starting spots ready for true freshmen, save for injuries ala Fromm this year at UGA

It is possible that Cade likes the attention of the latest offers.

It is possible that Cade isn't fully convinced that ND is for him.

The other option that nobody has considered, is that Cade is cracking the door just enough to keep colleges recruiting him. This could be because he wants to give other kids on his team, or kids from the Reno area, additional exposure (possibly at the head coaches request). They may show up at a practice or a game and someone else might get noticed in the process. The interview really played up the fact how his recruitment is a pretty big deal for Reno area football.

Most people think stuff like this is BS, so I want to add that this kind of thing happens more often than most think. In fact, as you said, it's often encouraged by HS coaches in order to get more colleges stopping by their school. A lot of times when people have a "Top 10" they actually have a "Top 1 or 2"... but they put the 10 out there to make them look open and to get those coaches (and others) to keep visiting.

I believe the word "but" in his interview roughly translates to he gone. That being said, he's too short, wasn't the RKG, and I hear he didn't take a needed foreign language.

And I would agree that it happens quite a bit. It's happening with Nana's announcement on May 19th, for example. I'm completely ok with that, because he's not committed to ND yet. I don't think that's the type of publicity ND needs from it's "committed" QB. If you want to do that, then don't commit. Especially being a QB.

Reno (Nev.) Damonte Ranch four-star quarterback Cade McNamara tells 247Sports and Irish Illustrated that he's eyeing a visit to Notre Dame in April, potentially for the Blue-Gold Spring Game on Apr. 21.

The 6-1, 187-pounder has been committed to Notre Dame since July 17. This will be his third trip to campus and second since being committed.

Things have really taken off since his initial pledge to the Irish. McNamara has landed offers from Michigan, USC, Alabama and Georgia over the past month and has seen his stock soar. The Fighting Irish will put in the work, continue to recruit him at a high level, and ensure that he puts pen to paper with Notre Dame in December during the early signing period.

As a junior, McNamara completed 225 of 384 passes for 3,470 yards and 44 touchdowns.

Per 247Sports, McNamara, an early enrollee at the next level, is rated as the No. 6 pro-style quarterback nationally and No. 1 prospect in Nevada from the 2019 class.

Someone also referenced the 247 article about how he's going to be doing his part to help recruit other 19' prospects to ND. If he's keeping the door cracked to help his Reno teammates potentially get recruited, he needs to understand that he's wasting his time trying to recruit kids to ND if he doesn't seem fully committed.

Really hope he comes to ND...won't be devastated if he chooses to go somewhere else.

I see PJ as the guy over the next 3-4 years anyway....BUT a season can end in one play....so having a very capable back-up is a necessity

Precisely, if you are truly trying to build a "special" class, which 19' does have that opportunity. You should use this as an opportunity to say to other prospects, "look, I have offers from Bama, UGA, USC, etc. and here is why I chose ND.........."

That is using the publicity to benefit the school and class you are committed to.

Good news about the Spring game visit is, it should give the staff an opportunity to evaluate where the situation is at, and plenty of time to make a shift, if necessary.

Something to keep in mind, PJ was very heavily recruited early on. And staffs continued to try and recruit him throughout. Difference was he didn’t talk about the offers or attention publicly, and “listen” to those staffs after he committed.

^can't fault the kid for getting excited about getting these offers. Notre Dame is by far and away your best offer. Then here comes all these other big hitters. Starts to validate in your own mind that yeah, you are good. I'd be excited too.

In an ISD article posted today, he mentions that USC was his dream school and they've no offered, and being offered by the national champs is surreal.

No. He said he rooted for them when he was younger. Never said "USC is my dream school"

IMO, this is a completely different. PJ was once in the same spot and would say things like it's humbling that "school X" wants me to play for them but I'm committed to ND. Cade is saying I'm committed to ND, but.........." I never saw an interview with PJ where he talked more about other schools recruiting him, after being committed, than he did ND.

Huge difference. Also, stating that you are not 95% committed, is the same as not being committed.

With social media it would be pretty easy to find out of he's still recruiting for ND. That should help us figure out where this bus is heading.

Well, check out his follows on twitter...his last bunch of football related follows...

Chris Bryant - Michigan Director of Player Personnel
Jim Harbuagh - Michigan HC
Chris Weinke - Tennessee RB Coach
Trey Anderson - Arizona St Grad Assistant
Dan Enos - Alabama QB Coach
Michigan Football Official Twitter Account
Cal Football Official Twitter Account
Matt Dudek - Michigan Director of Recruiting
James Coley - Georgia WR Coach
Oregon Football Official Twitter Account
Clay Helton - USC HC

I wouldn't read too much into this though because he's already followed just about all the important ND people you can, including many of our targets.

I bet ND has some sort of software that tracks players and recruits on social media. Who follows them, who they follow, posts/tweets, etc..

As much as his latest words don't give me the warm & fuzzies, it's still easier holding onto a kid than convincing him to flip. Plus, I never really consider a verbal commitment to mean anything more than a school being the "leader in the clubhouse" these days.

TL;DR: ND has the best odds of landing CM than any other school at this point.

You can't compare the two because simply...they are different people. Just because PJ went about it the ideal way that every ND fan wants them to because it keeps them warm inside and from melting down doesn't mean other kids should too. Or that if they don't then there's no way that they are sticking to their commitment.

The theory of him keeping the door open for his school could be the case that some people are mentioning. Some say well that could have an adverse effect on recruiting when his intention is to promote ND recruiting. But also remember that the kid can/will visit camps with these prospects, visit ND with these prospects, DM each other on twitter/facebook. He could simply tell them this reasoning behind closed doors from us to see.

.9628 4* Dylan Morris - WA - FAR - 6/24/17
.9333 4* Hank Bachmeier - CA - FAR - 10/15/16
.9114 4* Paul Tyson - AL - FAR - 4/2/17
.9054 4* Max Duggan - IA - 7h45m - 4/2/17

Just a few guys ND could circle back with. Hopefully Cade stays in cause I think he’s the best of this bunch and probably a top 7 QB in this class when all is said and done, but if he’s not all in then it’s time to find a guy who is. Hopefully this is just some fluff and everything will settle back down. Good thing is ND got 11 of their 13 QB targets from this class on campus already so they have that head start. I think they’ll be fine.

The crystal ball's are starting to roll in for Paul Tyson to the Tide. Doesn't this suggest that Alabama isn't confident about Cade if they are pushing hard for Tyson?

Bama has at least 2 QBs higher on their board than Cade according to 247, and I don't see how they miss on Tyson given his family ties. Georgia is a more interesting case because 247 has Cade as their TOP QB target, but that offer didn't seem to get people as worried as the Bama one.

Just because Bama offers a QB doesn't mean that they are pushing hard for that QB. I just checked Bama's QB offers, and they have offered 15 QB's in the 19' class.
