FWIW, this isn't one I'd wait next to the board for. If the whole world is surprised, then so will we.

A more urbane sequel ( released today) to the epic Parker Boudreaux commitment video

A more urbane sequel ( released today) to the epic Parker Boudreaux commitment video

Location=Stanford of course.....

These videos are perhaps too orchestrated now
for the good of the young men themselves ?

Do they contribute to setting the bar too high for their own good thereafter ?

Give me Joe Thomas on the lake fishing with his dad
the day of the NFL draft any day of the year....

Now the starting LT with Walker Little out indefinitely.

No doubt he made the right choice.

If I was King Harry, I'd at least be talking with a player of Rouse's quality.
If Rouse was willing to move to guard, great. If he wasn't, then the move of Fisher is NOT an absolute forbidden move.
Coach Hiestand will create his own OLine, and Fisher does currently have some issues with speed rushers.
Fisher reminds me a lot of Aaron Banks --- a very good OLineman, and a better NFL guard.

I was thinking the same thing and mentioned it as early as last year. Fisher is athletic but he looks like he could be a dominant guard, capable of pulling and athletic enough to get to his spot.

It would be great for sure, but it seems like the bigger money is still with tackles. It might make sense for Blake to slide in for a year to show his flexibility, but I think he's going to want to stay a tackle, if possible.

Staying at tackle didn't hurt Martin!

Obviously the bigger money is with the tackles, but Fisher is not the prime decision-maker here.
ZMart was at tackle collegiately because he was a fabulous college tackle. (Someone like McShay --- don't think
it was him but someone like him --- called Zack "An eraser." I.e. it was as if his opponent wasn't in the game. Fisher as yet is
not "erasing" people.) Zack was drafted as a tackle. Cowboys moved him because they sucked at guard. These two players are not the same guy by a long shot.

The comment about making money applies more to Rouse probably. He'd probably like some assurance that he'd be playing tackle. (and I'll bet he'll get that.)

Haha! Agreed. But while Zach was a technician's technician (and could probably play at a high level in the NFL), Blake has some physical qualities that suggest NFL OT is a very real possibility. He may not want to give up on that possibility so quickly and could consider the transfer portal if pushed....

Wrong about Martin. He was moved to guard because he didn’t have the measurements of a tackle. The cowboys felt he would make a better guard, and they haven’t exactly been wrong.

I don't think there is any real disagreement here.

I think the Cowboys drafted him because they really needed o-line help and he was the best available. He instantly became their best OG option (despite his playing OT in college).

I think--like you said--everyone at the time agreed that he was not an ideal OT body. However, his work at LT for ND was so undeniably outstanding that it was unclear if he would be willing to slide inside or whether he'd be as good.

He might have said, "no," wanting to give tackle a chance first. However, he didn't (he's the ultimate team guy), and the rest is history.

Rouse would be a superficial add IMO. We have our tackles and plenty of quality candidates at guard. Use those 85 where more needed. S WR QB (duh) DE

Disagree.

You always look for opportunities to enhance your roster at all places. We may have quality candidates at guard, but are they going to provide more than what we'd get from a RG/RT combination of Fisher and Rouse?

You have to keep in mind, that we need to replace both guards, so between Kristofic, Schrauth and Spindler, potentially Carmody.

To this point, Kristofic has experience, but lacks size. Spindler doesn't seem to have made the jump we all expected in year 2. Schrauth hasn't seen much action and is still a freshman. Carmody needs to add at least 20 pounds before he's even a realistic option at guard.

Rouse gives you a very good tackle and allows you to move Fisher inside, where his strengths are more amplified.

Not saying you write them off, but just because you have quality candidates doesn't mean they're the best options to field your best unit possible.

Highly doubt that Walter wants anything but an LT job anyways. And he (nor anyone for that matter) is beating out Alt.

Need to come up with a slogan.

FOK-lahoma
When ND had a come-from-behind win over OU in Stoops 1st year (1999), they had a t-shirt that on the back read:

The Sooner (with the OU logo)
The Better (with the ND logo)
