But did he really think the USC OC would last 3 years? It is just terribly silly to pick a school because of a position coach or coordinator. I know how hard it is not to do that, but marry yourself to a head coach and a school that you are excited about. Coordinators are moving more than ever in the college football business. Chip Long is about to become Brian Kelly's longest tenured offensive coordinator at 3 seasons! Saban goes through coordinators like Jeff Gordon went through tires.

IF he liked KK, and knowing OCs move around, knowing it was KK's first year was probably a safer bet than most OCs. KK jumping to the NFL as a HC was something most would not have predicted. And, he could have thought KK might just end up the HC at USC sooner than later.

We don't know the situation, but I think the kid locked on to KK, and was smart enough to get USC to make some statements, giving him a potential out.

Great points. I’d probably prefer a Tom Herman/Tim Beck combo over a Clay Helton/Kliff Kingsbury combo. The reasons for going to Texas right now seem better than going to USC but many LA guys can’t get the Trojan out of their head.

yup, TX is the safer overall pick without a doubt. but KK did average like 550 yards and 42pts a game. that would give most WRs a hard on. and i can understand a cali WR wanting to bring glory back to the trojans.

Let's hope he leaves. SC's overall haul might be subpar but if they get all of their WR's, it will be one of the all time hauls.

Bru McCoy - 5*
Kyle Ford - 5* - My #1 from Day 1 in the class - Committed but not signed yet
Puka Nacua - Should be 5* - By far the most productive WR in the class and he might just be the best. Might sign w/ Utah - Still committed to SC but not signed
Drake London - 4* FB / 4.75* BB - National level basketball recruit too - The James Harden of HS basketball - Planning to play both, could see him giving up FB though. Signed
Munir McClain - 3* by services - 4*+ in reality.

Now if he goes to Texas...

Bru McCoy 5*
Jordan Whittington 5* - Supposed to play WR but is probably an even better DB
Jake Smith - A 5* on any planet except earth.
Marcus Washington - 4*+ - Big StL kid w/ ND/Bama/OSU/OU/SC offers
Brayden Liebrock - 4* - A 95+, Flex with Tyler Eifert written all over him
Kennedy Lewis - 3*

Unbelievable

Since 2013 (first year Helton was OC for USC), the Trojans have had 4 WR's drafted in the 1st or 2nd rounds. IIRC, that is the best of all schools, and only 2 schools have 3 drafted in those rounds. So it's not like he hasn't had guys get drafted.

Yea, and USC has been developing WR's poorly since 2009. At this point it seems like a cultural thing. They usually have a talented crop of receivers, but the attrition rate of their talented dudes is astounding.

.9044 4* De'Von Flournoy - Undrafted
.9987 5* Robert Woods - 2nd Rd Pick
.9948 5* Kyle Prater - Undrafted
.9789 4* Markeith Ambles - Undrafted (TRANSFERRED)
.9953 5* George Farmer - Undrafted
.9750 4* Marqise Lee - 2nd Rd Pick
.9609 4* Amir Carlisle - Undrafted (TRANSFERRED)
.9595 4* Victor Blackwell - Undrafted
.9854 4* Nelson Agholor - 1st Rd Pick
.9544 4* Darreus Rogers - Undrafted
.9713 4* Steven Mitchell Jr. - Undrafted
.9905 5* Juju Smith-Schuster - 2nd Rd Pick
.9259 4* Rahshead Johnson - Undrafted (TRANSFERRED)
.9045 4* De'Quan Hampton - Undrafted
.8584 3* Deontay Burnett - Undrafted

Now, I'm probably missing some dudes, but since Pete Carroll left 9 seasons ago, USC has recruited the WR position better than anyone in the entire country. Only maybe Alabama and Ohio State could come close to that number of 4 star recruits in that time, but the propensity for USC to have their 5 or 4 star recruits flame out is at an extraordinary rate. Yes, USC has 4 guys picked in the first two rounds in the last 9 seasons which is awesome, but they also have more talent at the WR position than almost anyone so they should be putting a lot of guys in the league at that position. Alabama has had 5 guys drafted in that time span at WR, Ohio State 9 dudes, LSU 9 dudes, and Oklahoma 6 dudes. Shoot, even ND has had 5 dudes drafted in that time period at Wide Receiver.

IMO, KK would likely have changed that trend. Glad he bolted.

Just read a story on a USC 247 site about USC searching for it's next OC and the messages from their fans...so damn funny.

Sounds like Bru committed to a coach. Texas is on the rise and USC is falling, big time.

Talk on Twitter is that Bru McCoy could be transferring back to USC. Just off the top of my head, I don’t think kids that are this wishy washy are usually successful on the field.

I’m glad Notre Dame doesn’t deal with this bull shit as much anymore.

Dallas Morning News reporting that McCoy may be headed back to USC. from UT. He played in the Texas spring game, but don't think he has ever officially received the NCAA immediate transfer to play there in the fall.

He was an EE and wasn't required to sit out a year for transfering. Listened to Brady Quinn this morning and he said he may have to sit out a year if he wants to transfer again.

1. Decided to leave USC because of uncertainty with their offense
2. Goes to Texas
3. Might be unhappy with not being the immediate #1 WR at Texas?
4. USC decides to run the air-raid
5. Goes back to USC, where he'll get a bunch of targets even if he's the #4 WR.

He may be waiting a year. He was granted immediate eligibility once. I would be surprised if the NCAA would do it twice. The flood gates would blow wide open.

Indeed. The NCAA needs to put a stop to this nonsense, or at least put their finger in the dike.

Every day, for the last seven weeks, McCoy has been stricken with a fever doctors cannot explain. His parents have taken him to specialist after specialist in search of a diagnosis. Doctors have treated him for a variety of possible illnesses and bacteria — flu, strep throat, legionella — but as USC’s season approaches, the only answer his family has received is that he has a “fever of unknown origin.”

I say Texas Fever because babesia has been reported in humans. CDC reports it as an emerging illness
