What are the odds that highly rated recruits flame out at a higher percentage over the next few years as more, let's say, lose focus. We will never have the stats to verify but going from rags to relative riches at age 17 or 18 is much more problematic than age 21-22. Sam Hartman is like 30 now in his tenth college season - his level of maturity is unrivaled outside of BYU historically. He knows a couple of 400 yard passing games to start the season has him at the top of Heisman watch with Guinness commercials at the end of a long line for his NIL.

Devil's advocate: Or, it further validates their approach...that some guys, who are "true ND men" will choose the degree over the bag, while all others who take the money "just aren't a fit for ND in the long run."
I don't doubt it will be seen that way in some circles, but Foskey was a fit for ND in the long run and just said he likely would have been looking at other options, so we would have lost someone that was clearly a fit because of NIL. I don't think that's going to motivate change at ND, but in a practical world it should carry water.

I didn't see what Foskey said as a problem. I think he was just commenting on how ridiculous some of the dollar amounts are and how hard it is for a kid straight out of high school to say no to that. I know I wouldn't turn down a million dollars up front.

In the end, he is still glad for the choice he made and to me that is what matters. He realizes the value of ND and appreciates the time he spent here.

I have no problem with either of them speaking the truth. It would be a different story if what they said wasn't true and from what can be gathered it seems as though it is not true, whether it is a good or bad look for the program/university.

Speaking truth is never wrong. B!tches just aren't like what they're hearing.

He's currently slotted behind Granderson on the Depth Chart, although I know a lot can and will change once they actually hit the field. Granderson is in the last year of his contract though. He's put up less than 15 sacks in the last 3 years as a starter. If Foskey performs well he could move up quick.

Granderson has only started a few games as an injury replacement. Davenport, who left in the off-season, was the starter (Cam Jordan on the other side), and Granderson has primarily been a passing down sub. He's not good against the run. I'd guess Foskey has a real chance to start across from Jordan. I think the hope is he grows into the anchor on the end of the line as Cam slows down.

I really hope he figures it out in the NFL. His senior year was rather underwhelming.

I was reading about this year's possible bowl opt outs and I forgot Foskey was one last year. I see he only has 9 tackles and a half sack for the Saints this year. Anyone been following? Does he see the field much?

He has missed the last 3 games due to a quad injury. I don't know when he is due back. Before that, he was seeing the field somewhat regularly in a backup role.

Not a Saints fan but stumbled upon a thread about him. He's been a total bust. What's crazy was the amount of people blaming it on the fact he came from ND though.

Loomis stepped over their scouting folks to take Foskey over Brian Branch apparently.

Must be as a practice squad player. I loved the guy during his time at ND, but he’s done nothing to warrant a 53-man roster spot.

The thing that bugs me the most about it is how it always cooks up bigger than you think.
