I'm starting to believe Lyght's going to go two years in a row without signing a single cornerback.

He's a WR pretending to be a DB, had no experience at CB, played at a public school in the rural south against crap competition... Let's pile on now and get it over with.

Elko and Kelly won't let that happen. However we may end up with Plan C and Plan D recruits to show for it. Lyght should be on notice too.

He said Bama was his childhood dream school. I'm guessing he is a big Vol fan and has a strong connection with Butch Jones. Thus the reason for him committing. He's looking around in part because it doesn't look like Butch will be around.

.9666 4* Houston Griffith - IL - FSU
.9458 4* Chase Williams - CA - Nebraska
.9346 4* Alontae Taylor - TN - Tennessee
.9168 4* Kalon Gervin- MI - Top 6 of UF, Oreg, MSU, VT, OK, Neb
.9157 4* Kyler Gordon - WA - List not cut
.9033 4* Julius Irvin - CA - Top 5 of Mich, ND, USC, Utah, Wash
.8724 4* Noah Boykin - DC - Maryland

Would be unacceptable with 5 scholarship CB’s on ND’s roster for them not to have at least one of these guys or some other unnamed 4-5* talent come next season. Winning championships requires really good recruiting year in and year out. Can’t keep hoping 3* talent turns into good production in the secondary.

I'll take

Tariq Bracy
Kyler Gordon

& any two of the following

Taiyon Palmer
Travian Blaylock
Terrell Smith
Jarius Brents
Noah Boykin

I'd skip:

Wilkins
Taylor
and Crim at S so I could take 4 CB's.

I think ND gets Gordon and Boykin

You might do that but the staff won't. Crim is a favorite of Elko. One thing this defense lacks are safeties who can play in coverage. Crim will excel in this role. Four corners would be drastic overkill when our top five corners all return next year. I also like Wilkins a lot. Talk on another board that based on his SR. film he's going to receive a big bump up in the rankings at the end of the year. Give me Gordon, Bracy and Wilkins at CB and add Crim at safety.

We've picked up a ton of kids that committed to other schools, de-committed, were very confused for awhile, and then decided to come to ND. As 17 year-olds, they had no idea what they truly wanted, and yet ND still kept recruiting them. And most stayed all 4 (or 5) years. It's a long list of guys.

Hell, our potential all-American LB, Drue Tranquill, had massive drama in his recruitment. He wanted to be a man of his word and stick with his commitment to Purdue, but also felt that ND was the best place for him. MANY fans wanted ND to drop him because he was too "wishy-washy" and strung ND along for too long. They wanted him to know what he wanted right away and commit to ND.

Thank God the ND coaches were smarter than that. And if they are smart, they'll continue to recruit Taylor hard until the end.

Would be on cloud nine if we were to get the four guys you just mentioned.

Safeties that should be good in pass coverage:

Nick Coleman
Alohi Gilman
Isaiah Robertson
Jordan Genmark-Heath
Paul Moala
Derrik Allen

How is taking 4 CB's when you have 5 returning and none leaving any worse than taking 3 safeties when you have 7 returning and none leaving?

Truth of the matter is, we don’t win all or even a majority of the battles with those teams, because we simply don’t present well to most those prospects. However we do win some, let’s give it a shot to see if Taylor is one.

We win recruiting battles, period. Crawford, Hayes, Tillery, Wimbush, Smythe, Q, Big Mike, Mustipher, etc. They were all wanted men by other legitimate programs. And there are so many more.

LOL, Nick Coleman? Did you watch him last year trying to cover? Most of those guys you mention are now true cover safeties, the kind of safeties who drop down and cover a receiver. Allen and Crim will be. I know those five corners can play meaning any new corners will have to wait their turn. There will be some changes at the safety position (some attrition) and Allen, Gilman and Crim could see a lot of playing time. It's clear Elko is not impressed with what he has at safety.

Learning Taylor is a backup plan at the safety position for Bama according to Loy. Not really worried. Think it comes down to CB at ND or WR at Georgia.

Loy indicated he's going to play offense in college so they don't think he's coming to ND.

Now if this is Alabama we call up Paul Moala, Wilkins, Mabry, Jahmir Smith, Geordon Porter and ask em to gray shirt to which they decommit and we replace their commitments with Alontae Taylor, Cade Mays, NPF, Amon Ra St. Brown, Chase Cota, Houston Griffith and others. Ah, what it would be like to have no morals, great bagmen, and no academics to get in the way of our championship aspirations.

At this point I don't think we end up with a top ten class unless something drastically changes. Michigan, FSU, Oklahoma, and LSU probably will rise up the rankings along with a huge jump from Bama when they start pulling out the check book.

ASB and NPF would help a ton. Two 5 stars.

sounds just like your typical, "if ND wins, they will come" dont think it takes too much inside info to say the above

Well considering the amount Mike Frank whines about how losing costs us good kids, doesnt he almost have to say this???

Personally, maybe the impact will be felt in 2019... but I dont really see any crazy results in 2018.
