QBs ranked ahead of him would've thrown 15 completions in 14 attempts and accrued at least 700 yds though
This got me thinking since Justin Fields has been all over the news with his commitment to UGA. How does Phil stack up to the #1 player in the land? What about the #2 overall player, Trevor Lawrence?
Rushing:
Phil ..... 6 G ..... 39 car ..... 312 yd ..... 8.0 ypc ..... 12 TD (last night's rush stats not available)
Fields .. 5 G ..... 76 car ..... 575 yd ..... 7.6 ypc ..... 10 TD ( last night's rush stats not available)
Lawrence . 5 G . 16 car ..... 78 yd ...... 4.7 ypc ...... 1 TD
Passing:
Phil ..... 7 G ..... 114-149 ..... 1875 yd ..... 77% Comp % ..... 16 TD ..... 3 INT
Fields .. 6 G ..... 74-116 ....... 1239 yd ..... 64% Comp % ..... 17 TD ..... 1 INT
Lawrence . 5 G . 75-105 ....... 1538 yd ..... 71% Comp % ..... 15 TD ..... 1 INT
Couple of things to note: Phil is getting cut off at halftime every week because the average score at half is 45-5. Even game one against a Top 50 nationally ranked Huber Hgts Wayne HS, he got pulled when it got out of hand on ESPN. Fields has played the entire game at least 3 times with his two loses and a third close score. Lawrence has had only one close score so I don't know.
If Phil continues at a 77% completion clip, he would be the most accurate major QB I've ever seen stats on. Remember when BW just missed the national record at 76%? Regardless if he stays at 77% or not, it's not bad for a guy who will have to have his delivery reconstructed and struggles in 7v7 as confirmed by writers whose athletic careers consisted of washing jocks straps, getting cut from the golf team and writing up a 250 word game summary for the school newspaper.
Lastly, Phil has played the best of the WPIAL this season and according to Maxpreps, has played a tougher overall schedule than either Fields or Lawrence. Now if you believe that's impossible because GA football is way better than WPA football, well that's another story.
I wouldn't trade Phil for any player at any position in the 2018 class. Period.
