'18 PA QB Phil Jurkovec (Wherever I May Roam Chud)

I think at this stage we can just rub our hands together like mad scientists and forget the ratings idiots of the world. The thought of an athletic rocket-armed 6'5" QB at the controls of the Kelly offense sounds like big $$$$$$$$ to me. Bring on 40ppg.

p.s. playing like Archie Manning was about as good as it gets. The Old Man had game.

I had assumed for years that Archie was an old-school Payton Manning-type pocket passer from back in the day. Little did I know he was the RGIII of his day. It was actually the oldest of the Manning sons that inherited all that speed and was a great WR, but he ended up having to exit football because of a serious medical condition.

On NSD somebody on ISD (can't remember who) said that Archie wanted his sons to go to ND, but obviously Peyton wasn't really a fit for an option offense.

I don't know if I buy that. When Peyton came in, he would have followed Rick Mirer. So we were running more of a pro offense by then.

Living in Indy I read and heard a lot of Manning stories. Don't ever recall hearing his name and Notre Dame together.

Phil's team will be playing in the 6A (highest class) state title on Saturday in Hershey vs Reading High.

Reading High has Lonnie Walker, a top 20 rated 6'6" guard who turned down Villanova, Arizona, and others for Miami.

reading has always been a powerhouse...i used to watch their games at williamsport ....not sure if anyone remembers Donyell Marshall who went to reading...but he used to be pretty special in high school who ended up having a decent nba career

Lonnie is no joke from a physical standpoint. He looks so athletic and smooth. Got to see him play Pottsville this year. He didn't take over the game like I thought a 5* would, but still... impressive. He had a dunk in which he had to duck or he would have hit his head off the backboard.

From what I gather, his father didn't want him to attend Nova because that's too close to Reading, and he wants him to get away from the city and people there (can't blame him). Curious that he would end up in Miami though.

On the game itself, Phil's team will have to match the intensity of Reading, they like to press, guard tight on the perimeter, and push the break. Could be a very good game.

I know I'm old now. I just read, "not sure if anyone remembers Donyell Marshall..." The fact that there are people here that don't proves I am ancient.

Donyell's the HC for Central Conn. Good to see guys like him in coaching cuz he ain't in it for the $$$ after 15 (?) years in the league.

Reading his a rich tradition, but this year's team is like ND Football 2012. They haven't gotten this far in a LONG time.

Agreed about them being conditioned. I believe these guys have been together since a young age if I remember, and have been groomed for this year. They wear you down all game long. Might not get steals with the press in the 1st quarter, or 2nd, or even the 3rd... But like you said, by the 4th the opponent is physically exhausted and starts making mistakes.

I knew he was close to committing (or did commit for a little) to Arizona, and then it seemed like he quick chose Miami. I don't follow Reading all that close to know the details. It does seem like Lonnie is a good kid from all reports I've heard too.

Glad you got a ticket. I'll watch on TV. Reading crowd will be HUGE. Really want to see how Phil matches up defensively/ athletically with Lonnie.

I'll say this... I'm in Hershey haha. We're still trying to work on tickets. Might not get inside after all, but yeah this game should show how athletic Phil is. I'll be rooting for a good game, but I see Reading winning too.

I wouldn't read too much into how athletic a football player looks on the court. I've hooped with a lot of NFL players and the only one I can say was basketball ready was Chris Carter. We played against the Chicago Bears' charity team, the Good News Bears and I shocked how uncoordinated (for basketball) they were and how quickly they got tired. It's a completely different game. Oh... Tom Thayer sets HOF picks btw.

Oh I agree, but at the same time we know Phil is a pretty good basketball player to be a key contributor to a team that is playing in the 6A state title game.*
