I've got nothing against Jurkovec. On the other hand, I've got nothing FOR him either. He didn't earn the Notre Dame Warrior Brotherhood badge which gets me cheering for our old Irish guys. And while his childishness and lack of "generosity" when he left can be forgiven as the product of immaturity, that doesn't earn any "nice boy" points either. So ... whatever is, is. He, to me, is just another guy QBing a rival football team who I want us to beat.

Meh, he trashed ND on his way out. Played the victim card, took no responsibility for his own problems. Not a very classy way to go out, not like the way most of our other QBs left. Can't say I wish him the best given the circumstances, especially going to a minor rival team. You're asking for trouble.

If you are stuck somewhere on the depth chart it's your own fault, no one else is to blame. Realistically a coach is not going to bench the best player in a position group, his own career could be at stake. Unless a player really screws up and burns a bridge or something, a coach is going to put the best product on the field every time. There's no incentive not to.

C’mon, just like in every profession there are a bunch of mediocre to poor coaches who make mistakes regarding personnel. If you don’t think some coaches sit players for reasons other than performance then you don’t understand human nature.

I doubt that happened to Phil at ND and the way he acted after he left showed me his immaturity.

He legitimately left 4 TDs on the field in the 1st half with off target throws. All his throws downfield are wobblers. Ironically, he seems to play the same kind of “game” as book.... good distributing the ball underneath and can make plays with his legs, cannot throw accurately down the field. Difference is that with Book they’re at least spirals.

Not able to run today either. negative 11 yards.

Phil just threw a sure fire pick 6 that the DB dropped. Not impressed. He’s not the worst QB I’ve ever seen but he’s far from NFL caliber.

BC just had a crazy 15 play drive to bring it within 2 points. Under 1 minute to go. 2 point conversion was picked and run back for a pick 2.

Phil threw 4 touchdown passes on that last drive. No matter what happens here with the 2 point conversion he is going well.

If Jurkovec could expunge the too-frequent potential turnover plays from his game (and he has way too many), he would be pretty good at his job. But since turnovers and drive-stoppers negate any number of other good plays, he's not there yet.

What has interested me more about BCs last two games is their strange vulnerability to plays which threaten their defensive edges.

He’s fun to watch, on another team. Would stress me out playing for ND.

UNC has a good defense and Phil has one legitimate weapon on offense. I think he played pretty well given the circumstances.

much improved over last week, unless North Carolina and Texas St are interchangeable on defense.

Which isn't as ridiculous as it sounds. They really did have similar results vs BC.

Agreed. Put Hamilton on the TE Long and make PJ beat you w/ his other receivers. I wonder how many targets Long got? Seemed like every throw went to him.

Phil didn't impress.

He wasn't bad, but 5.6 yards per attempt is really low and he had a few throws that could've been disasters that fortunately for him didn't materialize.

UNC may have a pretty good defense, but even they didn't look that good. And we have to remember, they've hadn't played in 3 weeks.

Yeah I thought he was really bad. QBR of 56.6. What’s weird is that he does way better in the 2 minute drill... so some of the issue might be scheme? They’re basically running a west coast offense and dinking-&-dunking their way down the field. He was awful throwing deep, so maybe they’re running things that way because it’s all they think he can do right now.

I actually think BC, as a team, has more talent on both sides of the ball than people are giving them credit for. That was my main takeaway from the game overall.

Yeah, UNC looked far better before the 3 week layoff, and Mack Brown said the same.

There were a lot of NC defenders running free to the QB on a lot of plays. Also, it doesn’t seem like they are trying to use Jerkovich as a running threat at all.

Maybe he does better in the 2 minute drill because there’s less thinking and more playing.

It does. Also in 2 minute drills, the increased pace forces the defense to play a more basic defense. He sees the field better. This is the case for most young QBs (3rd collegiate start and first year in a new system).

He has distinguished himself by his grit and toughness. Also, he appears to manage and at times thrive under game pressure. That is an unique attribute for most QBs...especially young QBs. Very impressed with him so far, but it is too early.

Playing for a poor BC team will give him time to develop.

And BC is supposed to have one of the best OL in the ACC

Pretty sure it's been talked about since week 1 that this unit is bad and does not remind you of previous iterations.

Was just going by what Prister stated on latest podcast. Could’ve sworn he said Clemson & BC w/ best OLs in ACC. I’ll try to go back and confirm.
