Right, I mean if even Hopkins doesn't think he's going to Oregon, then there must be less than a zero percent chance of it happening. Because that guy will believe any prospect that breathes, is going to Oregon.

Oregon suffered a string of decommits following the departure of Willie Taggart. Perhaps none were more surprising than Tigard (Ore.) star Braden Lenzy*.

The 6-foot, 175-pounder was an early commit of the Ducks and one of the most vocal leaders in 'The Movement.' Which made it surprsing when he was one of the first and immediate decommitments following the Taggart news.

The Oregon staff made a surprise trip to see Lenzy immediately after his official visit to Notre Dame last weekend. A trip that seems to have made a big impact on his recruitment.

Lenzy will make his choice next Friday, a week from today. As of today I'm hearing nothing positive for Oregon. It would appear Lenzy plans on re-committing to Notre Dame, where he 'flipped' to Oregon from in the first place.

Assuming that is the case, as I've made my ScoopDuck prediction, Oregon will have missed out on Chase Cota and Braden Lenzy in the month of December.

Stay tuned for any further updates on his recruitment as the staff continues to work on the in-state star to try and keep him close to home.

Well I said low 4:s: so 90-92 rating... he's a 91.85 right now in composite.

Let me phrase my question better... I'm not sure where we disagree, except on the qualitative stuff. I said he does not appear to be the most fluid athlete, which is a common criticism of guys with "track speed." You think he is. But we both think his rating is accurate?

I guess the only difference is that I think he has some hypothetical flaws/red flags that give him a really low floor. You don't think he has the same basement.

Yeah this is basically where I'm at. Like your reI could Lenzy being a very good player... I also see a lot of paths to Bust-ville, USA. I think he deserves a low 4:s: ranking based on his upside. But I've definitely got concerns.

This is all fair.

I think he has a chance to flame out, but not from lack of talent. Like you said in previous posts, I see the risk on the mental side--he decides football is not for him. I also see some risk with size (maybe he can't put on good weight), which is always a risk with the little speedsters.

But if he works hard and gets stronger as expected, I think his floor is more like a Chris Brown and his ceiling is like Stepherson's--who I think will improve even more. BL seemed pretty feisty on his tape.

Obviously his ceiling could be Fuller, but there is no more reason to think that now than there was to think Will Fuller would end up a Fuller! :)

Fuller was probably the most shocked I've ever been by someone's development from prospect-to-player. I still have no idea how he got that fast. And I didn't even truly believe it until he showed up and torched people at the combine.

I was converted after this game. I watched him all night long from the stands and it wasn't really competitive.

That first play against Adoree Jackson is still the best thing ever. I was also at that game, was a lot of fun.

I know. Kelly has been pretty impressive picking out underrated speed on tape, but he was on another level.

And how the heck did a kid who didn't weigh 155 soaking wet in highschool bench 225 10 times at his pro-day?! People don't think that sounds like much, but I think its amazing with his build at 6'0", 186. The kid has the highest quick twitch muscle to body mass ratio of anyone on earth.

In the Kelly era, it has to rank right behind the Robert Hughes "Hey guys, I'm a 240 pound RB, maybe I should just put my shoulder down and run" winning drive at USC. RH was an enigma until that game.

Personally, my best moment at a game was the Quinn to Shark TD vs. UCLA.

There was absolutely nothing prima donna about Will Fuller’s work ethic.

If he had great talent, his work ethic made him exceptional.

He PUT IN, and the pay off showed.

Not saying Lenzy is a prima donna, but if he comes here and busts his ass, he should do well for himself and us.

That’s the big IF for most of these prospects who have had a lot of smoke blown up their you-know-whats.

This is exactly how I feel

Two decommits in such a short time....scares the beejusus out of me.

He decommitted from both Notre Dame and Oregon....two schools where really nothing bad can happen, Great facilities, great support.... it will be tough to meet the expectations of a kid if this actually a true reflection of their behavior.

Not me. The kid is a baller and fast as hell. I want him to bring a little attitude. If he gets out of line, that is what the leaders of the team take care of. I don't care that he committed twice already...who get's him in the end is what matters. I want game changers on this team with an edge to them. The "RKG's" decommit, get sad, and struggle as well. Need all the difference makers...Lenzy is a difference maker.

Do you remember Team Revo? If you disregard character and fit, soon enough those malcontents band together and turn into a locker room cancer. Assuming Kelly is happy with the team's current culture, it's probably OK to take a flier on one or two guys like Lenzy. But it's always a risk.

Can I chime in here, real fast?

Is there actually definitive proof that this kid has character issues? From what I've seen (from skimming this thread) is that there is a young man that felt like he was "slighted", was probably over dramatic, but not necessarily a "punk". Let's not compare him to Team Revo at this time.

Slighted Twice......in a few short months.....when he wasn't slighted.

I agree he wasn't, slighted.
I agree he's been dramatic and immature.
But, that in no way guarantees he's a "character issue" guy.

He could simply be an irrational (misinformed?), overly sensitive, over reactive young man. A behavior that is not unlike most average high school boys...

To me it is atypical of most P5 recruits.

It does happen where one kid decommits, but it rare when they decommit twice.

And like I said, he run didn't from a dumpster fire from either ND or Oregon,

I'm not concerned over the decommit(s) so much as the fact that he said some pretty vile stuff about our coaching staff which was published nationally. That's not typical for a recruit who is now considering a last minute jump back into our class, and it's a huge red flag. High school athletes can be forgiven for indecision, suggestibility, etc. But by that age, if you haven't figured out yet that some comments can't be simply walked back or ignored (particularly those made to a national reporter)...

If he jumps back on board, I'll pray I'm wrong and give the kid the benefit of the doubt. But Lax is right to have serious reservations here.

Correct, there is no one on this board that can say definitively what kind of character he has. We can make judgments or assumptions, but not a single one of us knows Braden or his family.

I will root as hard for him to succeed here as any other player until he gives me a reason not to. It is a tabula rasa for every kid once they sign on the dotted line, then you are judged by your actions as a student and player at ND.

He may have gotten the first lesson on dealing with honorable men, leaving the door open for redemption. I would love to welcome Braden to the class. This whole chapter may have given him the opportunity to truly see who is who and to know better what he wants!
