When did they change? I am reading OSU articles from mid April, just pre their spring game where it seems they are pessimistic about OSU chances. Gant talking about the tradition of ND, familiarity, relationships, academics.
Last I saw OSU are now going after their number two in state line backer option (or at least he has suddenly put on hold announcing with smaller schools) which again made me think Gant has told them no thanks.

After his visit to the Blue Gold game. Loy put in a CB for OSU after speaking with Gant, Michigan writers put in CB for OSU, and OSU writers are feeling more confident.

Are you questioning Koon's fandom? Don't you know he has a Notre Dame tattoo?

No, I'm just trying to do my part to continually hold him responsible for cursing the Blake Barnett recruitment.

So, two notes that are of interest to me.

1. He had very little contact with Urban at the OSU spring game. Was that because he already told him he was coming so Urban focused his attention elsewhere? Or did he let him know he was just there for fun? Would Urban just let a top in-state defensive target go without a fight?

2. Once he got on campus at ND, Saturday, he went to the bookstore and bought a $100+ ND jacket.

Not really sure what to make of his recruitment. I think both sides could make easy cases for optimism.

So, do you remember the 'Varsity Jacket' story I told?

Last fall I saw Dallas out with his SJJ Varsity Jacket on. When we went to SJ, it was custom to keep the jacket plain, not even put the varsity letter on it. In Dallas' case he had everything displayed on it and some of the most intricate embroidery stitching I have seen.

I thought that was so cool, that I said something to his mom the next time I saw her. She looked at me and asked me if I knew how much that kind of work cost. ($) And then she asked me if I knew what (that fool) did. Meaning, as soon as he made that major investment, he outgrew that jacket. That told me two things. And should tell you two as well.

One is he is just starting a new growth spurt. And two is that his mother values a dollar. They don't throw cash around like a lot of people. If he made gear purchases, it could have been for friends and family that were fans, true. But probably not. I haven't seen any of them in a lot of Buckeye gear lately.

I have no clue, but I'm going with Bogs on this one for the simple fact it makes me feel better.

By the way, there is a reason for number one, and I don't believe it is good for OSU.

Even by the chance he picks the Irish does anyone think that this is over?

When he picks, it is totally over.

Appreciate the optimism, but I'm still scratching my head as to why OSU writers who previously had ND leading now believe OSU leads. I don't see Gant and his family being the type to play games and trying to throw people off.

Ask yourself this. To what do any of them point? Upon what do they base their predictions?

It's never over until they sign. Even then, Vanderdoes displayed a way to get out of it.

Congratulations! You could not have picked two diametrically opposed recruits if you tried. Their situations are entirely the opposite.

Eddie has a situation educationally that he has an IEP or 504, and cannot get the free help at a private school that he can at a public university. He was not a fit of any kind at the University of Notre Dame, due to entirely incidental reasons. Great kid - great school - bad fit.

Dallas is a freaking genius. And he is an academic animal, (as well as being a pretty good linebacker.) I would bet that Dallas could get into ND on the basis of his academic performance and abilities.

I don't think it's about playing games, I think it's that Gant (and his family) are just legitimately good people, so whenever they get interviewed, the beat reporter always feels like he was talking up [school] enough that they are probably the favorite.

When scUM sources interview him, he's respectful and says enough good things that they think he might be a scUM lean.

Same with ND, same with OSU. He gives everyone the warm-fuzzies.

This is so true, that you don't even know . . .

I am sure they like everyone they have met, from every school. And I am pretty sure everyone likes them. And, they never say anything bad, about anyone. Both parents are tremendous consensus builders, (for a living.)

With Michigan, things are a little more nuanced. In an interview, Dallas' dad clearly said the two final schools are UND and UM. Think about it. But they didn't go to the UM spring game, they went to OSU's.

I sure as hell hope everyone's predictions for OSU are wrong and he chooses ND. However, I don't care what anyone says, it's not over until he signs.

I may not have vbucks left after he commits, but if I do, I'll be them all that Gant sticks with his commitment no matter what school he chooses.

I have no idea how he fits the profile of 'flip'. He lives in the same region of every school he's seriously considering, and has visited each one a number of times, is taking his time, and has strong family guidance.

I don't see how he's a flip candidate at all. He's like the strongest 'stick' candidate I can think of.

Genius. It's not over until he signs is true for every single recruit.

Didn't I just mention that earlier in the thread, and was blasted because Gant isn't that "type". Learn how to read and comprehend something before trying to bash someone.

I don't see him being a flip candidate either. However, if ND shits the bed this season, I don't see how a majority of these recruits stick, let alone Gant.

All I'm saying is there's no absolute guarantee when it comes to recruiting.

Agree nothing is guaranteed, but I'd also state that while that's a universal truth in recruiting, there is NO one more likely to stick to a commitment than a kid in Gant's situation, for my aforementioned reasons. Even if that team goes 4-8, he'd be the last kid I'd pick to jump ship.

Agreed, I also think it's telling that Elko will be visiting him twice in the near future, and once with Lea tagging along. I'm just going to be pessimistic until he picks ND :)

That's kinda irrelevant in this situation cause there's a 0 percent chance OSU goes 4-8.

Yeah if by cold he meant a beautiful 70* day. lol

No kidding. Weird... I was out there with my wife and 7mo old daughter, none of us with jackets.

He's from Toledo... it's not like a kid from Miami or something. lol

Could this come down to something as simple as HC job security?

I think if that was a concern, then he already made that determination, because his decision date is in less than three weeks.

Honestly, this is just my gut, but I think he is coming here. No info or anything, but every time I read his comments, especially those to OSU reporters about ND, it's almost always glowing. He really likes us and he said this in the link above.

What Gant knows right now is that he thinks he’s made a college decision. He told the media at Nike’s regional camp for The Opening that he’s got an idea of his decision, but wanted to see other school “just to make sure.”

So it sounds like the decision is made. Which if you read his comments over the last couple months, look at his visits and read his actions. It just seems like good stuff. But I'm sure I'm just setting myself up for disappointment probably. lol

I can't decide one way or another based on his interviews. I just saw he said coaching was big factor. While I like our D coaches, I can't get past that Urban is highly more likely to be around for all of Dallas' career than BK.

Bogs is so dang sure 90% of what I have heard from media sources is bull shit.

My point is, they will make their decision, for their reasons. Earlier in the process, I used to hear things unfiltered. Now, nobody does. I mean nobody. Out of respect, that's fine by me.

I believe they know where they are going, or have a pretty good idea.

This quote is pretty significant :

What Gant knows right now is that he thinks he’s made a college decision. He told the media at Nike’s regional camp for The Opening that he’s got an idea of his decision, but wanted to see other school “just to make sure.”

Please note the grammatical error. Should the statement be, 'see other schools,' or 'see the other school?'

That kind of makes a difference. When you think about it, if it were the former, that could mean he has chosen Michigan! Right? The latter would mean something else.

And then how do you interpret his disengagement at OSU versus his and his families absolute engagement at the ND Spring Game? (Check the pictures!)

That could go either way, right? He was engaged in South Bend because he loves ND; or, he was disengaged in Columbus because he decided on OSU. Which of those fits better with the profile you have formed about Dallas and his folks?

I will tell you what I told someone who asked me in confidence, they all are polite, inscrutable, and in control. So, almost everyone isn't going to know where they stand, unless they are told. Me, I am polite. Early on I was asked a couple of things, and I take pride that I answered honestly and put Dallas and his family first.

I suppose that the beat writers need to write something, but I am not enamored when I see the fabrication by some. No wonder why people get so pissed at elements of the media!

I will tell you one thing that most may not know. Yesterday morning SHS had their second-trimester Academic Awards Assembly, (yes my freshman daughter made the Principle's List for the second time!), and after the assembly, when Dallas' mom usually visits with parents, she left immediately after the presentations. She was booked out for the day. If you compare that to the coaches recruiting schedule . . .
