Actually it's Smythe who will be gone (5th year SR.) and Weishar would have one year eligibility remaining if asked back.

Actually this is the final season for Smythe and Latua. Weisher is the only one with two years of eligibility left.

I like Takacs and Ford a lot and would be more than happy if one was the TE in this class but I LOVE Ruckert and personally think he's the best TE in the country, it'd be a huge coup if we landed him on the heels of Wright/Kmet but that's what big time programs do.

Thanks for the correction. Unless we absolutely need Weishar back, I'd imagine all three will be gone after this season. Which means we could have Alize, Wright and Kmet which are a great group to have but it'd be really nice to pick up a TE in this class.

And Alize could bolt if he puts up even decent numbers.

I would rather have Takacs or Luke Ford. Would rather have a potential Niklas than another Wright or Kmet.

Crusader, what does that mean? Are Wright and Kmet not 'high-ceiling' guys? Or you want a chance at a 6'7" TE as opposed to the 6'5" guys we have? I can't decipher the meaning.

From what I've heard, both Wright and Kmet could provide utility in the ground and passing game.

That's what he means. Our roster at TE looks like this in '17

TE
rSR Durham Smythe
SR Tyler Luatua
rJR Nic Weishar
rSO Alize Mack
FR Brock Wright
FR Cole Kmet

So after the season when Ruckert/Takacs/Ford would be on roster we would lose Smythe AND Luatua for sure and also have some risk with Weishar (either not asked back or chose to use 5th year elsewhere) AND Alize (a big year could force him to declare early, academic struggles make it slightly more likely). We could lose 4, or only 2 but at most we enter 2018 with 4 TE's on roster without a recruit, one guy is definitely needed. If Alize is as good as we think there is next tocno chance we get him for 3 more years, best case he stays for two years before declaring.

Definitely need a TE this class.

I'm hearing nothing. So let's close the thread and all head over to George Takac's for happy hour.

I went ahead and deleted my post. I'll stay out of these recruiting waters. Enjoy happy hour.

--Lindenhurst (N.Y.) High's Jeremy Ruckert, the No. 4 tight end in the nation, said he is concentrating on Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin. He wants to make a decision prior to his senior season, and he remains in contact with each of the schools. Buckeyes defensive coordinator Greg Schiano was at Linderhurst last week.

Gotta be tough to convince any big name guy to come here after pulling in Wright and Kmet last cycle

Counterpoint:

Long and BK can point to a very vanilla Spring Game highlight vid and show how they're going to use 2-TE sets for a significant portion of the snaps, and can then say "now imagine when we AREN'T hiding the best stuff from film."

Also, they can sell the fact that he's only a year from competing for minutes alongside (or in relief of) Wright/Kmet.

Being the #3 TE as a RS FR, with the talent to compete for the #2 spot, on a team that primarily uses 2 TE's isn't so bad.

Or you flip the script and tell them getting in line at TE U is the same as RB's getting in line at UGa or FSU, DL's getting in line at Bama or DB's getting in line at LSU. Jump in the pipeline. Show them the NFL paychecks and they will all listen.

Sorry to dip back in. Ive been saying ND is very much in this. This kid is a very good athlete, and is going to be a matchup nightmare in college.

Urban pulled the whole line of if football wasn't in the picture would you be happy at this school? Same thing he told his son and Ruckert is really thinking about it. I think Urban has his teeth sunk so much into this that it's gonna be hard to overcome

Isn't that a pretty fair question to ask though?

To a kid from Long Island?

The simple answer is no. There's no reason outside of football he would see himself going to Thee Aggie State U in Cow-lumbus. No reason for a New Yorker to go to a Land Grant school not named Cornell.

Just my opinion of course.
