His sophomore stats are pretty eye popping. This year pre injury it seems he had regressed. He was on pace for only about 2/3 the amount of yards and tds from the year prior on a worse completion percentage with twice as many ints.

Anybody that watched some NCST games have any insight?

Where you seeing smoke? I’ve only heard Sampson.
There’s been some social media follows from staff.

For those wondering about his timeline to return:

-Injured right pectoral muscle, throwing shoulder, during game on 10/8.

-Traveled to Florida to undergo surgery with renowned Dr James Andrews on 10/17.

-Typical pec injury takes 3-4 months, but his timeline due to throwing is 4-6 months per Dr Andrews. Patterson tore his the first week of March and was full go for fall practice starting 8/5, approx 5 months post surgery.

-Return would therefore fall between 2/17 and 4/17.

-2022 spring practice schedule started after spring break (3/5-3/13) on 3/17 culminating with Blue Gold game on 4/23.

-2023 spring schedule could be estimated to start after spring break - 3/4-3/12 - on the first Thursday, 3/16, and end 5 weeks later on 4/22 for the game.

-Leary would be post surgery 5 months on 3/17, at the start of spring practice.

Teams having film on him by then probably contributed.

I'm not going to get my hopes up. There's going to be plenty of suitors and we probably won't be able to afford him in the end.

I’d rather take the QB from GT. I don’t like a pec injury like this for a QB and him not being able to throw for that long while also not knowing what he’ll be like when it heals, if it heals correctly.

The injury's not ideal, especially if it would keep him out of spring practice. But a healthy Leary has higher upside than just about anyone else likely to come on the market, and we'll have four other QBs to work with if he's not healthy (also RPIII). I think maybe you roll the dice here.

Lost his 1st round LT and favorite WR.

1. He throws a beautiful back shoulder. There are literally like 10 perfect back shoulder throws in there. It is basically impossible to defend when the WR and QB are on the same page and they are thrown like that.

2. The throw at 3:17 is nasty. No one could get to it besides his receiver, it's 7 or incomplete. No one on the current roster is making that throw.

3. The throw at around 6:10 is a rope. He seems to have the arm strength when he needs it.

4. The deep balls were underthrown a couple times. They were still on the WR enough to lead to touchdowns, but still that is the knock on him from this highlight.

Has he even announced that he is entering the portal?
No but it seems to be widely expected. His younger backup took the reins and played fairly well.

I have to wonder if Leary's injury on the sack against FSU was really the culmination of a physical issue that was bothering him before that point. His numbers against FSU were particularly awful before he left with the injury.

But I didn't watch him at all this year so, you know, massive caveat there.

The big problem here is that Leary won't really be able to participate in spring practice in any full way. So ND basically has to elevate him to starter as an act of faith early in fall camp without giving the other guys a real shot. Leary will need all the reps they can give him in a new offense.

Sad that when I watch his highlights all I can think of is he has better receivers at NC State than he would have at ND.

But, is that a receiver issue or QB issue here at ND?

There are some positives to take away from our underclassmen wide receivers heading into next season. Pyne struggled to consistently find his open receivers. A lot of film breakdown, either from ISD (Greg & Jamie) and IB, have shown that separation wasn’t an issue this year.
