So, if you use his tweets as a timeline, he was on campus for just over an hour? Lmao

Sampson. I imagine as the day goes on more info about his visit will be coming out. But he's off to OSU now where they will likely close the deal. Shocking given that his Harvard grad parents are with him and that he attends a very expensive school.

It is odd but this became much more of a football recruitment than I think most expected. I'd bet OSU locks him up this weekend. Not much more ND can do. Finishing second to OSU stinks but that's what a lot of programs are experiencing right now.

Yeah, I'm surprised his parents would allow that, but I've seen parents let their kids do really weird things.

you'll see a lot of parents just say "it's our son's decision". i guess they know pressuring their kid to commit to a school of their choice might cause resentment down the road..

Also, people totally underestimates salesmanship. A good sales guy doesn't come off like the stereotypical used-car salesman from a bad TV show. Good salesmen are actors. And good actors do their research and then craft a salespitch tailored to you.

Urban knows this kid's parents are from Harvard, and so will put on the appropriate show. He is extremely charming and articulate and will have them convinced (at least for a day) that Ohio State is, in fact--if a humble man like Urban is allowed to say so--the academic equal of ND and that he and all the coaches are 100% committed to their child's academic success.

When the kid who couldn't care less about school comes, the closed-door presentation changes appropriately.

If you are open to the salesmanship, he's already won. It's only the people that couldn't care less what the salesman tells them get what they paid for.

Unfortunately I think some of the recent high profile academic suspensions and or arrests at ND under Kelly take away much of the ammo the ND staff could use against a place like OSU and Myer in particular in a case like this.

Good points. I think part of this recruitment, at least from ND's side of things, is a little surprising the shifting focus towards football and less on academics.

I don't think it means squat. It just means ND takes things like that more seriously than most other schools.

I'd push back aggressively on this. If you are a Harvard grad parent and send your teenager to Blair Academy, you are not concerned about work load at the collegiate level. That is ammunition for the borderline ND recruits that are concerned with how hard the school will be. That's where Urban comes in and says that you can get a good education much easier, while focusing on football.

One could argue that. I have a feeling that Myer et al are hammering on those points when they recruit against ND. It allows them to say "see that stuff happens everywhere, even at ND".

I agree with what you're saying. In this particular case Myer could say "your kid is so smart he can major in whatever. We usually try to steer kids into majors where we feel they'll succeed but your kid is exceptional and he can go be pre-med and still play for championships". I suppose his major interest could hold some sway. At that point it could become a "football" decision. We'll see. I hope he is Irish.

He's definitely not going to be Irish at this point. He probably leaves OSU committed or shortly after.

Being Harvard grads, I have to believe they know they value of a degree from ND versus OSU. From an academics standpoint, the key here is Urban selling that his major is one of the areas where OSU is highly regarded, then show the difference is significantly less then looking at the overall difference between the two schools.

I hope ND keeps a file on all of the DE's that are picking OSU right now. Some are going to get lost in the shuffle. That's how you neg recruit them. Tell them there's a 40% chance you end up a clipboard warrior while you could have been starting as a RS Freshman at ND.

Playing time is the biggest factor in a successful NFL career.

...and then throw in the percentage of probable failure in a meaningful NFL career and show them what ND players do afterwards compared to OSU.

lol watch Last Chance U, half those kids think they gonna make it but they do nothing to get them there

And that's precisely why ND isn't recruiting those kids. It's a completely different mindset. ND has to do a better job of recruiting the borderline kids, or the more football focused prospects, but that is a huge stretch as it relates to ND recruiting and what the staff is up against.

I have to believe they do something like this already, but you have to remember, these are 17 & 18 year old kids and there's a big percentage of them that don't listen to reason.

So he was on campus for 45 minutes? Or did he actually spend the night?

Ya boy Loy said he was on campus for a few hours and about an hour of that was spent with BK. Neither he nor Wiltfong have gotten a call back from Oweh yet. ISD hasn't been in touch with him directly but a source that is typically optimistic on ND recruiting was the most pessimistic on Oweh that he's ever been on an ND target.
