Per fonger, ND is in the drivers seat but a long way to go here. So probably exercise a little restraint for now. OSU seems to be our biggest competition.

does anyone have a clear understanding on this crystal ball thing?

Where do guys like Wiltfong and Loy come up with enough info to make these calls? from the team? From the player? from the players Coach?

It seems strange that the kid has decided without committing. At this stage decommitting is no problem...or we wouldn't have Wimbush or D Hayes.....

So that's why HH had Lugg at #2 RG, he knew NPF was coming. it all makes sense now.

Hope he's an EE, he needs all the B&B he can get asap to get up to size. Reminds me of Austin Jackson from here in AZ. He's 40 lbs from where he needs to be.

Watch the first play of this tape. The single greatest block you'll ever see. I thought rodeo clowns were gonna have to save him.

Holy smoke. This is the offensive line equivalent of the Aaron Lynch highlight tape. Wow.

It's an educated guess based on currently available information. To me, with Wiltfong, I'd say its (1) better than the alternative (no crystal ball, or one for the other team) and (2) some basis for hope.

All of the above, really. They build relationships with all parties involved. Use that information to make educated guesses, or in some cases the kids will just flat out come out and tell them, prior to announcing.

That's because no decision has been made. The crystal ball is a prediction game, for recruitniks to update where they think certain prospects are going to end up. Sometimes those predictions occur the day of a commitment, sometimes it's months in advance. You get more points, the longer you have the correct prediction made. So there is a reason to consistently update your prediction, as soon as you have some "intel" that says "player 1 really likes ND."

That's all that is happening here. Wiltfong is getting in early as his sources are saying ND leads at this time.

ND has to keep winning and survive an OV to OSU..... Meyer crushes it with high profile guys on official visits. I'll reserve my excitement.

One of the best and most entertaining highlight tapes i've ever watched. Kid is a bully. That combo of power and athleticism has first round OT written all over it.

This kid's video is something else! Totally dominates those poor defensive linemen. Imagine the monster he would turn into with the S&C for a year or so.

That video is incredible.

It reminds me of a young Larry Allen

Big, strong, fast, mean and dominant

Little disappointed with that first play. Would like to have seen him drive that kid all the way to parking lot. :)

That DE probably's received 20 FCS offers this week for not getting pancaked in bounds.

Most of those players in the Trey Smith Video look like grade 11's who barely weigh 180 lbs.

TBH that film doesn't look that impressive when you are literally twice as big as your opponent. Trey will never have that type of size and strength advantage ever again, even if he chose to play Div, III ball. instead of the sec, where he will be getting abused some games as a frosh

Well if his HS film didn't impress you, watch his college film. I watched one Tennessee game and he was assaulting people. He's a monster.

Well I did watch the Bama game where I thought he was abused up until he was knocked clean out of the game.

Haven't watched him otherwise.

This. I've seen 10 minutes total of 3-4 games and he was doing work, getting mentioned a couple of times by the announcers. Everybody wanted him as an OT and it was clear to me he was going to be a great OG. If HH could have landed him, I wonder if he would have sat on him for a year or if he would have started him from day 1 and kicked Bars back outside? He's the kind of guy you'd lay a $100 on if they did a futures play for the HOF.

At the beginning of the year, the talk was that Smith will play T, but they could get him on field at G this year.

Not sure if that's changed (or will with a staff shakeup), but the idea was for G to simply be a starting point this season.

Really hope ND lands NPF.

In other news, it appears the Trey Smith at Guard era is over. He started at LT last week (over a decent player too)...and will probably be the LT at tennessee for however long he opts to stay there.

UF will make a homerun hire that will seal the deal for NPF to Gainesville.

Good news is we have two young talented potential LT's in Liam and Hainsey. Also in strong shape with OT's in 2019. Apparently staff loves what they've seen from Banks and Lugg. OL is a position I just don't worry much about.

Freebie from Loy/247:

https://247sports.com/college/notre...tting-important-targets-on-Thursday-111430918

As we reported earlier this week, offensive line coach Harry Hiestand is expected at Tampa (Fla.) Berkeley Prep high school to see five-star offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere. That was the plan as of Tuesday, according to head coach Dominic Ciao. The 6-6, 272-pounder is the top target for Notre Dame on the offensive side of the ball and one the Irish are looking to make a big impression on in the coming weeks. Petit-Frere, the nation’s No. 10 overall player in the 2018 class per 247Sports, continues to look at Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida and Alabama.

HC can only visit in-home once. ND is allowed 6 off-campus visits (in-home visits) total for NPF and every other recruit. They'll get Hiestand this week. Probably Hiestand and Denson one more time before Xmas. Then before signing day they'll bring in Kelly with Hiestand and Denson to finish the deal.
