Either Wisconsin really messed up giving the nod to Mertz or we're in trouble.

Little concerned we got the guy who couldn't beat out Mertz as our starter.

From what Ive read, there was never really an open competition after he got hurt. Mertz was highly ranked, played well after Coan went down, and they hitched their wagon to him.

Coan doesn't make mistakes, or at least that what the people say. Mertz is mistake prone. Some of those ball handling errors were jr high stuff, totally unforced.
Road the the Heisman starts today.

Stoked to see Coan tonight. Will be interesting to see how they use him. Will he be mobile like Book, or are we going back to a more pro style offense?
Way to jinx it! Last time you got behind a QB it was Manziel in Cleveland!![]()
Might throw a more catchable deep ball than Book but not convinced his arm is any stronger than Ian’s.

Definitely does not have a big arm. Probably can throw it about ~50 in the air. It’s the main thing limiting his NFL upside.
Book's arm strength was never really the issue. It was more his willingness to let it fly down field. Coan, for his apparent lack of arm strength, appears to at least have the vision and/or willingness that Book lacked. And that's exactly what the passing offense needed.Might throw a more catchable deep ball than Book but not convinced his arm is any stronger than Ian’s.
