it's because they have a lack of talent at QB. Speight is very mediocre. Was propped up by Harbaugh and that system and that defense. I really think Michigan is going to struggle early on in 2017 with him having to shoulder more of the load after losing that entire defense.

By the way, Chesson was still hurt. He was not the same guy as he was in 2015, pretty obvious he wasn't 100% and lost a step a little bit.

As for the TE being the second-leading receiver- he was a pretty damn good one. He was the best TE that I've ever seen at Michigan. Not like Michigan has a ton of great TE's, but they've had some pretty good ones. I think Jake Butt was by far the best they've ever produced. I think he actually should've had more production. Actually feel like he was under-used and that points back to Speight. Speight has trouble throwing the intermediate passes over the middle of the field- usually where TE's can feast. Speight has one throw- the deep ball. That's it. If he's off on that the offense was screwed because he's so inaccurate throwing everything else.

Okay, even taking all of that into account, it's still not an offensive system that supports 4 WR's in the same class.

It prominently features TE's and FB's on the regular, leaving room for 3 WR's to see regular PT, maybe 4 or 5 if there is an injury among the top 3 at some point in a season.

Combine limited reps in the first place with the fact that Crawford and McDoom are there in a class ahead of them, you suddenly have two (maybe three!) WR's in the same class all riding pine for 3 years.

If Harbaugh convinced these kids that they're gonna all get plenty of reps or that it would be worth it to wait until their JR year to get some shine, that's cool... but at the end of the day, two of those guys are going to be unhappy with how their careers at scUM shake out.

isn't that Harbaugh's job? To get as much top talent as he can and coach it up?

In the 90s and early 2000s Michigan ran a similar offense where really only 1 WR at a time really got shine and Carr never had problems signing top WR's. Now they might have never got 4 HS WR's this good all in the same class, but there were a few times were Carr got 3-4 pretty highly rated WR's in the same class. In fact one year he got David Terrell and Marquise Walker to sign together in the same class- and they were rated as the #1 and #2 HS WR's in the entire nation according to The Sporting News.

Hawkins probably moves to defense, the need at safety is bigger right now than the need at WR, so I didn't count him, and while he's technically a part of the 2017 class, he was a 2016 kid who signed and failed to qualify out of high school.

Well sure, but I think someone did one or two of these kids a disservice by not making them realize that even in Andrew Luck's best year, there were only THREE wide receivers in the top 8 of Stanford's receiving statistics.

Harbaugh's offense doesn't support WR's at the rate he signs them. It's absolutely his job to sign them anyway, but that doesn't change the fact that two of these kids made a poor business decision.

I don't know why the hype for this kid?? I was never sold. He's apart of a class with 4 other WR. Good luck at Michigan....

Sounds like Black may be the starter across from Crawford.

Hard to complain about WR talent as an Irish fan but

Black
DPJ
Martin
Dylan Crawford - '16

were all high on my hit list.

Yoder said on twitter he's heard Martin will likely transfer from SCUM as he's buried on the depth chart

Wild. I really liked Martin coming out of high school, so it's amazing that he's buried behind Black, Peoples-Jones and a bunch of garbage.

He’s was never as good as Black, Collins or DJP so this doesn’t surprise me

You guys are tough on Nico Collins, calling him garbage dang. Personally Collins might be the best of the bunch.

So is there still a love fest for DPJ? I mean, he's had a decent career so far but he was billed as a 5 star "must get" type WR. For comparison, both Will Fuller and ESB put up better Sophomore seasons than he has in both Freshman and Sophomore years.

Worst decision this kid ever made was going to Michigan. I have no clue how smart people fall for that sales job, he was not a fit for their offense and the rationale for going there was absurd.

Wasn't he hurt his freshman year?
