all you have to do is go and look at his twitter and who he is following....miami is the overwhelming favorite of coaches/players that he has recently followed...also they are ONE of his dream schools along w/ texas which he received an offer from as well...as i am writing this, i thought he said at one point florida was his dream offer???

I'm not sure about Florida but he did state he grew up a huge Miami fan. They finally offered about a week ago and he said he wouldn't take it lightly. He keeps having shady Twitter activity but keep turning around and showing HUGE love for ND like last night. Says he wants to help turn the team around, stoked about Elko, committed to a school not a coach etc etc etc. Who knows with him. Really annoying really.

Just another prospect that has several "dream" offers, who cried when he committed to BK personally, raved about how special ND was, and then eventually flaked out on his commitment. I feel like I've seen this before.

Well, if true, we seem to have one or two every recruiting cycle. Too bad if he goes.

It's pretty bizarre that we might lose a recruit to one of the few teams we actually BEAT this year.

I just don't get this decision, from a academic or athletic standpoint. Richt's track record with receivers is not very good. Kelly has more receivers in the league in half the time than Richt had at UGA. Sure, there's Green, but like Floyd, the guy needed little development. He was a ready-made product out of the gate.

I don't really need to go into detail about the academic aspects. Miami's a good school if you apply yourself, but not on ND level.

I think he should seriously reconsider flipping to a school that offered him a few weeks ago and stick with the school that chose you over several higher ranked positional players and can give you a much higher quality education. The only thing is his ties as a fan to the U.

I agree and I don't know why we're having a hard time land high ranked WR's considering our OL and QB situation. Whatever.....let's hit the '18 WR's hard core. Praying for Amon Ra.

A good free article worth reading from Tom Loy at 247: BREAKING: WR Jordan Pouncey de-commits from Notre Dame

Money quote:
With my guy, coach Mike Denbrock likely leaving, he was the one who was supposed to coach me, and if he is not at Notre Dame anymore, I want to find someone else to play for

I think we're treading dangerously close to the "too much turnover to be successful" line.

I agree.

However, I don't think this really had to do with Denbrock as much as he's saying it does. He's just using this as an excuse to de-commit.

More than likely right. He had to know last night that he was close to pulling the plug, so why post like he did? I wonder if he called BK or figured he'd see his tweet?

Questions:

1. If he doesn't know yet, why decommit?
- or does he know Denbrock's gone?
- What if Denbrock stays?
- Was this simply the straw that broke the camel's back?
- Was he going to stand ND up at the alter regardless of Denbrock; this is just an escape excuse?

2. "too much turnover to be successful" .... When are you talking about?

He wants to take visits in January and ND will recruit over him if he takes those visits. So it was essentially going to happen one way or the other. This way he looks like he de-committed versus being dropped and can take his visits.

On the bolded, its quite apparent that the kid is really enjoying his new found success and offers. He posted pics from all his spring/summer trips. He wants attention and he's getting it.

Its an excuse. As I mentioned above, this has nothing to do with Denbrock. He wants to take OV's

There's a stat somewhere where staffs that lose like more than 5 assistants in a year without a HC change almost never win more than 8 games the next season. I'm not 100% sure on that, and I'm not sure how to look it up, but I'll try later.

Anyways, continuity is important. Changing out bad pieces is also important, but you can't just shred the staff and expect good things.

Sanford
Denbrock
Booker
BVG

Those are the coaches we've currently replaced. Two were obvious value-added changes... two were really strong position coaches and were at a leadership level...

It's plausible and/or expected that we lose Gilmore... and maybe even Elston... from the defensive side of the ball. In the event we replace 5 to 6 coaches I'm concerned there isn't enough continuity to be successful.

Time will tell, but change is what everyone wanted and they are getting it.

While pouncey could be a loss, I'm confident he'll be replaced by someone just as competent.

My point was to expose the obvious with my list of questions.

If he chose to decommit instead of having his spot go onto the open market while he shopped on OV's, then he decommited. There's no other way to package it.

So you are talking next year. I don't like the Denbrock loss but good for him. He'll be the smartest O in the room down in Cincy. Good for Sanford too. Both were under utilized on gameday. The O is BK's gameday baby so he needs to quit pretending it's not. Find some good practice coaches who'd rather be in a recruits living room than his kid's piano recital and that's what will help.

247 credits Denbrock and Booker with 11 recruits I think.

Both our two highest rated recruiters. If ur into that.

I for one wasn't worried about losing either one individually, but collectively ND was sure to see some sort of drop off immediately, maybe not so much long term.

Booker's coaching easily replaced and upgraded with Polian and Quinn. Recruiting also shouldn't be an issue going forward.

Offense has zero coaching identity with no OC, no QB coach, and no WR coach.

Us landing an O recruits at this time seems unlikely.

Yeah, the only move right now to stabilize the staff would be to immediately tab Quinn as the OC and try to poach a top rated WR coach or have Polian coach WRs... which will be difficult given Kelly's situation. I don't know what the heck you do for a QB coach at this point, might make the most sense to have Kelly coach QBs for a year and just call a spade a spade. That would give you some flexibility on what to do with guys like Gilmore who have coached on both sides of the ball and maybe mitigate additional turnover.

Kelly has is work cut out for him in finding coaches. I sure hope to have some answers really soon.

When will we know if Elko is bringing any coaches with him?

Don't know but I'd imagine pretty soon. It seems like a forgone conclusion that Clark Lea is coming with, and that's all at the present time.

Hopefully a talented WR will see an opportunity at ND to get early playing time and commit or flip to ND. I don't feel confident in Martin or Calvin committing now. Kelly need to hire a WR coach ASAP! Hopefully he has something in the works
