This season is over. Now instead of finishing a strong 10-2 and going to a solid bowl game we will at best be dragging our limp 8-4 bodies across the finish line. Now the 2015 season that was supposed to be our year will see the season begin with us ranked in the late 20's. We will again have to "prove" ourselves instead of simply winning to get in.

I had composed a nice long post in my head but right now I cant even.

If this team cuts out the ridiculous turnovers and manages to field any semblence of a defense next year ND should be really good even if Kelly "calls a bad game".

Kelly needs to stop calling plays. He's really really REALLY bad at it.

I dont want anyone and im not suggesting that we should fire him. Im just asking if we can realistically expect to be able to get back to that level.

If the defense even remotely decides to show up then yes.

What are you talking about? You arent going to win every play. There are going to be good and bad calls every game. ND is averaging 35.8 points a game. Could execution be better? Sure. But its not his fault that Chris Brown fumbles at the goalline or a ball bounces off a guys helmet. You live with CB trying to make a play at the goalline. Yes, turnovers have been a problem, but most of them this year are simply kids being aggressive and trying to make plays.

You want to rip him for game management, sure. Rip him. But, every game this year he has put his team in a place to win the game. The players got to execute better and he can coach that and do a better job at that. I think he needs to simply somethings, but playcalling isnt one of those.

But to each their own.

Next year is make or break with Kelly. I won't judge him until i see them this year. they had a lot of offseason losses, are a little young, and let's not forget lost some very talented players because of the academic investigation. kelly was maddening today but those of us watching this team closely have seem this coming this year. we were an amazing 4th-and-18 play away from losing to Stanford and very easily could have lost the Navy and/or UNC games.

Yeah, this defense has gotten worse, worse, worse...week by week.

We won't be shit until they get it together.

But, I have a feeling, could be wrong...EG has like 5 or 6 turnovers next year, his National Championship year.

Other than some nice rose tinted glasses what the fuck are you basing that statement on? This team can not hold onto the ball, the defense is being shredded week after week, special teams are all a joke, this program has spent a decade unable to dominate terrible teams, and we are stocking the shelves with 3* lineman.

Oh and also some of the talent we are replacing with 5* kids are all green as shit because we stubbornly play out Sr.s weather they are worth a damn or not. I never want to have to utter the names Collinsworth, Schmidt, or Mcdaniel again.

This is an inconsistent pass happy offense that can't line up and be physical. Hard to be elite playing that way. An outsider needs to be brought in to run the offense, but that won't happen because Kelly is too stubborn to do it. It's a solid 9 win type program and nothing more unless everything breaks their way like it did in 2012.

You make a lot of valed points...the defense is really, really bad.

But wait til next year, EG cleans up his slop, that defense looks a tad bit better...very young this year too.

Golson has 19 turnovers in six weeks. Has nothing to do with Kelly

Here is the key, we'd be undefeated without it.

Edit: the 19 as he posted above is what.

You should leave Schmidt out of your response. Joe did nothing but lead the team in tackles and provide game tapes Morgan can learn from so that someday he understands mental ability, not athletic ability puts you in position to make plays.

Your wit is cute. Who, next year, brings what EG does? If he wouldn't missed last year we'd be talking different. But he did...next year is his, I don't care what you throw out there.

Wut? Im bringing up legitimate issues with this team and next years team, and you are responding with nothing but blind optimism.

I would love to believe that EG is going through a sophomore slump but he is getting worse every single game instead of improving.

Schmidt took reps away from a vastly superior physical athlete. Instead of throwing Morgan in there and letting him grow into the role in the beginning of the season, we now have a green MLB going into next year.

Yes, we can't win with no pass rushers. If you can't create pressure you will lose. And we don't have anybody. Not 1 guy that is a pass rusher NOT 1

I am not selling my stock in Kelly yet. I have seen really, truly bad ND teams, under Weis and Willingham. This team doesn't remind me of them. True, It beats itself from time to time, but it always puts up a fight. When we start getting blown out, when we start playing games we never have a chance to win, then I will start to worry.

As for Kelly's ceiling, it's worth keeping in mind a couple of things. One is that we are in year one of a new defensive regime, which is keeping a lot of our veterans who don't fit the new scheme in the bench. Another is that every significant player on this team comes back next year, with a few exceptions, and the only one of those I am at all worried about replacing is Koyack. Virtually everybody back, a year older, a year smarter. I might reserve judgment on Kelly's ceiling till I see that team play.

Have to be careful now now how I post, apparently some are offended...smh.

But I think 2015 has opportunitiy all over it...but the way BK has built this program ever year...'16, '17, '18...has top ten promise.

My apologies for anyone I've pissed off...except TTommy...Alabama got a big win.

Yes, Joe's superior ability to play MLB kept Morgan off the field. The best all around player usually plays in team sports. That shouldn't be a revelation and you shouldn't be upset that Joe Schmidt beat out the better athlete who at this time is the lesser player. Had Joe not gotten hurt, you wouldn't even have mentioned him with the other under performers. If anything, Kelly should have been working him in more but the team hasn't had leads enough to play the depth chart so I'm not even sure that is applicable..

And I wouldn't worry about Morgan being green going into next year. I'm sure Schmidt will be back and pick up where he left off. If Morgan improves enough over the last 3 games of this season and through spring ball and wins the spot, fantastic. If not he will get more part time work next year and he'll be ready as a junior to call the shots in the middle when Joe is gone.

I think Kelly is a very good Coach and can't think of too many others I would want. I do think ND is an 8 or 9 win program and has been for a long time. We'll have the occasional magical year (2012) but overall this is who we are.

My Kelly stock is off hold and being sold. Four years in and these are his players, his program, his offense, his defense, his inabilty to start hot in the 1st quarter, his inabity to get a qb prepared, his inabililty to dominate inferior opposition. Outside of 2012, his teams wilt during the last half of the season. I have fully suppported him up until now. We are looking at yet another 8-5 or 9-4 season. Lousiville and USC will destroy this defense. We might actually be averaging more TOs a game than yards per attempt rushing per game.

My disillusionment is vast right now and I think we have reached our nadir with Kelly.
