You know, before you get down on his R&R's you better watch the tape. I challenge you to tell me the DB's you've seen play the ball better in the air. Won't be a long list. 7 INT's and 4 return TD's is nice and he jams dudes at the line like a beast.

If he's 6-1, 180+ like the services say... (He says 6-2, 190) and can run sub 4.5's... all I'll say is, they've taken worse.

And remember, WR Michael Smith is a ZERO star and hung 1500 yds on Top Class Florida DB's. Some get through the cracks.

I think I'm pretty good at sniffing things out but I'm pretty sure Coach Elko's better.

I'm gonna finish that tape now.

Elko thinks he can play, then sign him up

Crusader I'm not following you here? he's announcing AFTER his OV. Unless he's canceling his OV, it's irrelevant, as we'll be getting our visit as planned. Nothing has changed, essentially

Oops. I saw 30th and well, you know. I'm working on January forecasts in other tabs and well... got lost. It happens at my age when attempting to multi-task. lol

It's all good. I'm pretty interested in Fields and I'd like to see what Elko can do with some late visits.

I'm in the camp where if Elko wants to offer and take theses DB's then I'm all in. I can see positives and negatives with both, but Elko seems to do a great job of putting players in positions to accentuate their talents. Fields seems to be very aggressive in the run game. Elko routinely brings his S's from deep, to get involved in the run game. I think Pinnock looks like he could be a good fit as a FS or Rover, looks like he could really excel in some zone concepts. Bring in some different types of athletes and see where they land.

I'm actually impressed with all these new kid's tapes. I really liked Field's as well.

Reaching much?

Ever hear of a CB named Kevin Johnson? Two star out of HS, 6-0, 160 pounds wringing wet. Elko saw something he liked in the kid. Three year starter at Wake, 16th pick in the 2015 NFL draft by the Texans. Under Elko six defensive players from Wake made it to the NFL and all were either two or three stars out of HS. Obviously after studying this kid's film Elko sees attributes and skills that he likes and feels he can coach up.

Yea, he seems like a rangy player. Explosive jumper. Seems to have good spatial awareness, and is able to use that to play the ball really well. That's why some zone concepts might fit him well. I worry a little about his change of direction and thus his ability to play man.

I really like his tape. I like it more than some higher rated safety and CB prospects.

Basically I like him as a FS.

I hate wasting scholarships so if Elko thinks he is worth one I would take him rather than give out another scholarship to a hard working, but not elite, walk on. Such awards are great human interest stories, but do little to improve the team or its depth.

Have you watched Jason's tape.

As for the walk-ons I completely disagree with you.

You think that Chris Finke, Joe Schmidt and Mike Anello do little to improve the team?

Let's take a look at other schools. JJ Watt and Clay Mathews did little to help their teams?

Yeah, cuz all those years where we don't have enough schollies.

If Elko wants him, I'm in.

Sparty put a few 1 and 2 stars in the NFL, and this guy has at least one.

We aren't wasting scholarships if we haven't hit the 85 mark in how long? I don't think this kid is a John Turner or Bruce Heggie

You can't put a lot into the rankings. It's more of a point of reference where a kid is currently is. As much as we watch clips of these kids and have our opinions, coaches see kids with a set of experienced eyes and see them in person giving them a completely different perspective. I always give the benefit of the doubt to the coach unless he has a track record of taking low rated kids and never producing. Given Elko's performance at WF, I would say he has a proven track record.

You hate wasting scholarships on a player that has the ability to close on the football, but want to give a scholarship to hard working, but not elite walk-on? Chances are this kid is going to be better than a walk-on, as he has scholarship offers from Boston College, UConn and Pitt. Pat Narduzzi knows a thing or two about defensive backs, so that's telling, as Pitt is going hard after the kid.

I actually think it's a GOOD thing this kid's name is out there. He may never get an offer from Notre Dame, but this is something Notre Dame hasn't done. They have a backup plan and are communicating with the back up plan.

If they strike out, they can go to this kid and likely land him, as he has a relationship already and there is an open line of communication.

Typically, this kid would be on Notre Dame radar and when they strike out, they would hit this kid up a week before NSD and try to get him to visit Notre Dame and get him to commit within a week. That's a tall task.

pretty sure Prof K is saying this kid deserves a schollie if Elko thinks he is worth it. Not sure what there is to disagree with about that.

That is what I meant. I apologize if unclear, but every year with transfers, dismissals, etc.. we seem to be a few scholarships short of a full announcement. If it comes down to adding a kid Elko believes might play and being nice to a walk on at the last minute, I prefer the former strategy.

Everybody joined Ellis from 11W and threw CB's to Pitt... 6 total.. Fonger and Loy included.

Has he canceled his visit yet? Did Elko just have some other guys a rung up his ladder? If his full game tape is as good as his highlights, I'd have been cool with Pinnock. Dude was a high point master.

Kevin Johnson finished his junior year at Wake when Elko was hired. It makes sense to believe in Elko, but this isn't the right example to cite.
