I thought he was pretty fast. Also was on kick and punt coverage and was always the first guy to make contact. On a side note, sat with his dad at the game. Very funny and super nice guy.
Thanks for the first hand comments. I don't think anyone else mentioned Special Teams participation. He was credited with a tackle.
Holmes also appears to have tied a ND Rushing Record with 8 Consecutive Rushing Attempts on the last ND drive of the game. I didn't see this mentioned in any post game reports. Holmes is in pretty good company.
Consecutive Rushing Attempts by Same Player in a Game:
8 C.J. Holmes vs. UNC, 2017; Mark Green vs. Boston College, 1987; Phil Carter vs.Air Force, 1980; Larry Conjar vs. Army, 1965; Neil Worden vs.Oklahoma, 1952
From ND v UNC Play by Play:
4th Quarter
Nd 1-10 at Nc45 Holmes, C.J. rush left for 2 yards to the NC43 (Britt, J;Collins, C).
Nd 2-8 at Nc43 Holmes, C.J. rush left for 10 yards to the NC33, 1ST DOWN ND (Smith, J).
Nd 1-10 at Nc33 Holmes, C.J. rush up middle for 3 yards to the NC30 (Collins, C).
Nd 2-7 at Nc30 Timeout Notre Dame, clock 04:28.
Nd 2-7 at Nc30 Holmes, C.J. rush up middle for no gain to the NC30 (Dalton, J;Smith, J).
Nd 3-7 at Nc30 Holmes, C.J. rush right for 9 yards to the NC21, 1ST DOWN ND (Collins, C).

Nd 3-4 at Nc15 Holmes, C.J. rush up middle for 2 yards to the NC13 (Collins, C;Smith, J).
Maybe. Tony Jones Jr has been really disappointing given how much he was hyped. Some had him as a top 10 player on the team.
People are making way too big of a deal about me saying Holmes looked slow. The OP asked what people thought. I have no idea how fast Holmes is expected to be.
Is he supposed to be a burner? Isn't he the recruit that withheld his 40 time at the opening because he ran poorly?
I thought he looked slow on 2 carries. Obviously that's not enough of a sample to predict how he'll do, but that's my first impression.
Athleticism is usually pretty apparent, even in a few plays. You don't need to see a fully game of Duke Johnson highlights to realize he's got a different gear.
And you don't need to be a burner to be a great RB. Cutting, finding the hole, and falling forward are a lot more important.
Good stuff BG. Reps!
I have one question... Did you get Worden's autograph after the game?
CON-JAR! AGAIN!
I think people are harsh on Tony Jones because he is being unfairly compared to Josh Adams and has taken some reps away from Dexter - who everyone wants to see more of. I thought he was ok against NC.

Another myth. Both Jones and Williams have seen severely reduced PT due to injuries.

Tony Jones is perfectly adequate. Good at pass pro, reportedly our best receiving RB, and probably the guy best suited to ram it up the middle on 3rd and 1 when everyone knows that's what we're doing. But if he's got anything like Adams' home run speed or Dex' quickness to the hole, we've yet to see it. In terms of carries he should be #3, not #2.
Mentioned on podcast today that Jones has had a nagging ankle issue from basically start of season.
After the UNC game you could argue that Jones should be 4th because McIntosh looked damn good.
You've got to be kidding me does anyone know what happened?
