I didn't see any podcasts on 18?

they used to do great podcasts in season every sunday/monday when they were running OFD but they haven't done any on 18S yet. I know the guys that did them were in school so I am guessing life gets in the way and all that.

Eric was on here when 18S launched saying they might do some in the future but they haven't so far.

Ok. Thanks for clearing that up.

Yes it crossed my mind I'd open this and it would say transferring to MSU. Sit out '17 and be a 3 year starter. Of course I'd be a 3 year starter on MSU's D line right now.

Kelly talked about his improvement after the game. Major gains in the weight room are starting to show. He'll get better and better as the season goes on.

This kid's stars are showing. The move around the RT on his sack was elite. The bend to avoid the RT's hands was perfect. If your other DE is doing that, you're in good shape.

I would like to see him change his number to a real D lineman number. How's that for some insightful input?

It is pretty weird to have two #53s in your two-deep.

I was following on ESPN play by play yesterday and they had Sam Mustipher credited with a pass deflection. I spent a few minutes trying to work out if that is somehow possible before having a look at the roster numbers to work it out.

Glad to see this guy progressing. Hated it when my Tide lost him but wished him well then and wish him even better now. He has the skills to be really good if he keeps working.

I think it’s 100% true, he certainly gives us the best chance for a 3 down SDE. However, losing Hayes cannot be a good thing for depth or rotation. Especially against run heavy teams like UM or Stanford.

There's always the option of moving Bonner to the edge, in that circumstance. We have depth at the inside positions to allow for that flexibility

Certainly not extremely detrimental but doesn’t make the team better. Also, that’s probably the opposite of what I would do. He’s going to be a first time NT, taking on double teams. Ideally he’d play a hard 40-50% of snaps there and rest. Giving him added reps at SDE isn’t going to benefit his production at NT. If anything, we’d want to be in a position where he plays less snaps not more.

You want to get a big front against teams like Stanford and move Bonner to SDE, then you are starting Hinish or MTA (who is already playing out of position).

Jay seems to have disagreed with Kelly’s comment...

I really hope Hayes doesn’t transfer to one of our competitors and make a comment like “I wanted to go somewhere where I can compete for championships.” That would be the cherry on top of a month that has seen one bad news story after another in recruiting.

That would be interesting, if Hayes transferred to

Bama
Clemson
OSU
OU

Otherwise he be is the same position or worse in his pursuit for the Natty

Huh? Certainly not all bad, or even close.

We have huge visits coming up with top targets. That’s good news. We are in pole position with one of our top OT prospects after his visit, Kristofic. Could be over soon. We get 1 of our 2 top interior OL targets on campus again this weekend. David Bell is visiting. Had a some of our top LB targets on campus this week, that we seem squarely in the mix for. Good news from Hunter Henry’s camp. Rodas Johnson visiting. Jowon Briggs still very open and really likes ND. The month of April will bring probably 10+ top 250 defenders to campus. There’s more but no need to go over all of it.

Yeah leave Bonner alone. It's KK and Ade Ogun at end and they will try to get Jamir Jones up to speed as quick a possible.

If something catastrophic happened to that side's depth chart, they'd move Daelin over there for more snaps. They play him there already in the Daelin/Julian package.

If the injury bug pop up at DE this year, just one extra DE from '17 would've been nice to have landed for depth purposes. A Kwitty Paye would have been nice to pull the trigger on as soon as they identified him... or someone similar. If no one gets hurt, it doesn't matter and it turn into a plus because young guys will get snaps and be better for it in '19 and beyond.

What about kofi wardlow ?

He's the #3 Drop right now and needs to be ready for forced snaps due to injury, to eat up garbage snaps to keep those ahead of him injury free and to push the O Line in practice everyday.

I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer but I haven’t seen much good news outside of O-line recruiting. We seem directionless right now at QB, RB and WR. It feels like we’re getting outworked by UT with Nana and Watson. Nick Cross and Kyle Hamilton are trending away. We lost Sampson James to OSU even though we can promise immediate playing time and they have multiple 5* backs on the roster. We’re starting to offer a bunch of projects at DE. It just feels like we’ve got no mojo right now whereas after our Junior Day a few months ago it felt like we were on fire.

Can't imagine he'd go there. If he wasn't going to start here, he damn sure wasn't going to start on Clemson, Ohio State or Bama. Maybe Oklahoma, but I really don't know what their depth chart looks like. Even then, Oklahoma's title hopes last year lived and died on Baker Mayfield. Without him, I highly doubt they're on par with those other three squads.

There's been a ton of visits and still many more to come. I'm concerned about Watson, not so much with Nana. I think ND has a steady lead even after the UT visit and he's visiting again soon. His family is very pro-ND and they're heavily rooted in the Catholic values that ND reflects. I'd be surprised if he's not Irish.

Wardlow is hardly bigger than a LB, much less a SDE.

It'll be Kareem/Ade as the regulars, but Daelin will see some time on that side two, when they want to get him and Julian on the field at the same time. He's a DROP, but he's also 6'4 265+ and a very good run defender.

RB couldn't be any further from the truth. They lead for Mellusi and APB Kyren Williams. They have Christon's full attention (thank goodness), there's a lot going on with Zach Charbonnet that we don't hear about because he's doesn't play the recruiting games by the rules and ND is in contact with John Bivens and that will go from 0-100 in 1 second if they pull the trigger.

QB seems directionless but they are evaluating and working back channels. It' not like the staff that brought in 13 guys for tryouts last year, all of a sudden doesn't have a plan a year later. They have a ton of options and have another Alter kid in Bazelak that could also go from 0-100 in a blink.

WR is gonna be tough after that haul last year. It's also not ass important because of either. Cornelius Johnson seems like a lean, John Metchie likes ND, & while a lot of top of the baord guys don't seem overly interested in ND, getting local guys like Eli Pancol, Tre Mosley, a hand full of other 3.5+ star recruits to jump on board shouldn't be tough. Watch of for Courtney Jackson from Pittsburgh, a 1900 yd receiver from Gateway. Add to this, the 2020 class for ND at WR is a lot like the '19 OL. There are very clear leans that ND is way out on front for. I knew the '19 OL class was going to be stellar, I feel the same way for the '20 WR class

The Safeties I covered above, get Ajavon and what ele do they really need? The roster is stacked with young players.

Don’t have to look far, just explained a bunch to you, in the post you quoted. It’s recruiting, there are inevitably going to be more misses but there is also a lot of good things going on. The month of April has already yielded an exceptional group of talent for being just 1 week in. And, it’s only going to get better.
