it has been noted several places....he lacks the attention and focus! which is why he is running w/ the 3's....he is the most physically gifted wr on team in terms of speed, route running, and YES even hands etc BUT he isn't locked in every rep which is pissing off the coaching staff...

Many around the program might think he has the potential to be the best player or maybe he's physically the most gifted but no one thinks he's the best player on ND. Right now Q and McG are vying for that position and everyone else has to prove they belong in the convo. And ESB is the best WR until he's not and he has the math to prove it.

I will agree, if it wasn't for the drops, the inconsistent route running, the laziness and the poor behavior off the field and the... well you get the picture.

Could finish as high as #3 in receptions behind AM and ESB but I'll go #5. I think Cam Smith is grabbing his job.

Agree, you can't be the best receiver if you have constant drops. He needs to learn consistency. Then and only then will he get a lot of playing time.

He reminds me of Pierre Garcon when he was on the Colts. Lay the ball right in his hands and he drops it. Throw it three feet over his head and behind him and he snags it out of the air with one hand. It's a simple matter of concentration.

What sucks about Stepherson having a poor work effort is that he could not only help himself and the team if he went hard and focused, but he'd also push ESB.

ESB is a competitor, and he sees no competition for 'top dog' right now. It'd be nice for Stepherson to push him just to breed competition.

Also, someone needs to let him know that QB1 needs as many top-notch reps as possible, and Stepherson is hurting the team in that regard.

If Stepherson is going through the motions and lollygagging, Wimbush is missing out on reps throwing to the fastest dude in the WR corps.

Cam Smith being healthy helps that, but Stepherson has another 2 or 3 years of running routes for ND.

which is why BK stated he needed a veteran presence at the wr receiver position and we took 2 TRANSFERS in

Personally, I hate bad attitudes in team sports so I hope Cam Smith makes the most of his early opportunities and never looks back. If he can play the position at a high level, Stepherson's loss.

Count me in the Cam Smith fan club, and I haven't even seen his body.

I think Kizer was really good on the deep ball but I think he lacked composure for stretches. I think it was just a comfort thing. I think Kizer had too many mental lapses but all of the tools. His downfield throws to Fuller in the USC game two years ago (amongst many others) were some of the most perfectly thrown balls I can remember. And against stiff competition.

I'm in wait and see mode with Wimbush. Plenty of people can sling 50+ yds with no accuracy and we already know he has the arm strength, I just want to see touch on his deep passes (amongst other things).

Composure is another thing I want to see, and pocket presence. Basically I want Tom Brady's mind with 2006-2011 Peyton Manning's arm. I don't think that's too much to ask.

Thank-you. I was at the USC game a couple years ago and what I saw made me very happy. Cheers!

Ditto. I didn't realize how fast he was until yesterday's reports. We apparently have 4 really fast WRs: Cam Smith, Stepherson, Michael Young and Canteen with Armstrong apparently close to being in that group.

This gives me great relief because without Stepherson, i thought this offense wouldn't reach it's potential but now if any of those guys can earn reps, we will have the "take the top off" speed to keep the field open and make the defense honor us or get burned when they stack the box.

Which means Alize and the rest of the TEs might be buying Cam Smith steak dinners (if he earns a starting spot opposite ESB). And with Claypool or Young working in the slot, I'm getting very antsy to see how this offense functions and I'm trying to think about Margaret Thatcher naked on a cold day.

Why is Kelly not able to say that he's suspended? Does that mean, pending legal issue? If ND suspension, wouldn't have to wait, correct?

NCAA suspension, announced team suspension versus sideline doghouse. Only difference being if he dresses and travels to see his teammates go from sideline to primetime.

It's probably not an NCAA suspension - they don't care about a little pot - so he's "eligible." May be a university thing that's technically still being adjudicated. Or a decision by Kelly to sideline him for a certain period of time.
My poorly-educated guess, given what Kelly did and didn't say: It's a university thing that's still in process.

Maybe I worded that poorly. I didn't mean to infer a NCAA suspension was a likelihood; it was a compare and contrast statement. He's clearly in a team discipline doghouse from the information prevailing.

No reason to speculate at this point. It's safe to assume he'll likely not get PT for the first 2-4 games. After that, we'll see if he's taken his lumps like a man or cowers like a b!tch.

If he mans up, our offensive firepower gets a boost. If he doesn't, hope all the other WRs keep working hard because we have a number of options.

How many more days until somebody says they'll call up ND and demand answers?

Ha! I'm foggy on that- what happened?

Crazy Balki threatened to go scorched-earth on IE, and then the institution of ND as a whole, if someone didn't tell him what Davonte Neal did to get himself "transferred" from school.

Oh I was actually referring to when somebody threatened to call up ND and DEMAND answers on the Frozen Five. Or it might've been why BVG's hire hadn't been announced yet, I can't remember

Oh shoot, I thought Balki had threatened to contact ND directly when no one would source their info that Neal didn't leave of his own accord.

Honestly for most ridiculous things, I remember the perpetrator as Koon. I don't know if that's right in this case, but I like to think so

I think you're right. I think Koon said something about calling the school to get answers.

ND Operator: Hello, thank you for calling Notre Dame. How may I direct your call?
Koon: I want to speak to someone who can answer questions about the Frozen Five.
NDO: Sorry, but legally we're not allowed to divulge student information.
Koon: This is Koon. I'm a member of IE and have a right to know.
NDO: Oh I'm sorry Mr. Koon. Let me put you right through to Father Jenkins.

All it takes is that you get your ass over here from Dublin for a football game, and provide an ice cold beer, and you'll get your answer. Nirvana will await you after that :)
