I was looking for updates on some safeties and noticed Devin had no profile. He was offered last May by Alford. Attends the same school as Coney and 2017 DE Vandarius Cowan, whom ND offered in January. Devin is a West Virginia legacy; his father, Darren, played Quarterback for the Mountaineers in the early '90s. He says that does not make him a WV lock, nor will distance matter in his school of choice.

Tevon is also part of why I like Notre Dame. I've liked them for a while, but from everything I hear from Coach Tony and Tevon, it's a great place. The tradition and education is also a big factor. I also know that Notre Dame is getting ready to explode this year with a healthy Greg Bryant.

It sounds like Alford was a large part of his recruitment, so let's hope that between Coney, Denson, and Lyght the staff can continue his recruitment.

Let's hope OSU's interest stays low with Alford there.

BGI was down in Florida and visited with Devin as well as others. He's still very high on ND but it doesn't sound like communication has been as strong since Alford left. Interesting prospect to follow going forward.

Visiting for Irish Invasion.

Nice highlight tape. My only question is his top end speed. Has real nice ball skills and is not afraid to lay the wood. Could probably play both safety spots.

Agreed and that you don't see him playing into his backpedal too much which is fairly common for HS highlight tapes. However, I like his physicality and the anticipation he seems to play with. Breaks on routes well, whether crossing or underneath. That can mitigate lack of speed in a lot of scenarios. All in all, I'm a big fan relative to who's on our board. Loved to get him locked down at II.

Hope he is a lot faster than you think then. That's a lot of ground to cover. ;)

So do you consider him a stud still?

The only visit scheduled so far for Studstill is Irish Invasion. Apparently not into traveling a lot wants the summer to be low key. Wants to focus on the schools he really interested in so he can set up OV. On pace to graduate early doesn't want to wait to long.

Big fan of Studtills. Excited to get him on campus. Tier/group 1 S for me. I think he's a step slower than a 5 star S. Criminally underrated by all.

Coney putting in work here. Studstill is interested in ND. Per TV

Just read the TV article. Is it just a down year for safeties, i.e. not many four or five star recruits? Or have we offered some four and five star guys and just gotten no traction? I like the tape of some of the three star guys we've offered like Studstill, but have wondered why we're not in the mix with any Top 100-150 type guys.

It continues to sound like Fuller is a possibility and he's friends with Wimbush. He's probably the top ranked S that at this time we have a shot with. Cameron Lewis is coming to II, so we'll see where that goes. It is a fair point that we're not currently leading or in great position with a lot of highly ranked S's. Highly ranked being the key word. I'm not that worried about it at this time. I think that we can land two really good players over the summer and early fall. Then play the long game for a guy like Fuller. A realistic class sounds like Chacho, Studstill, and Okeke. I'd be happy with that. Take out Okeke and add Fuller (possible) and I'd be elated. Really high on Studstill so I wouldn't think of him as his ranking suggests. Lastly, it sounds like the staff did a good job of evaluation over this recent period. I would hope/imagine that they've identified players they like and have a shot with. To all of BVG's faults recently recruiting, he's been busy on the trail. I think that pays off as we can isolate guys and make a push.

Got a couple of nice CB's in today for this stud, to include Wiltfong and Meyer. Would be thrilled to land this kid!

What's with all the Notre Dame predictions? Is he deciding soon?

I haven't seen anything that has said when but there's a couple things I've heard that make me feel pretty confident. Whether that's at II or down the road. BGI (coach D and Adam Ivins) were talking about how Coney has really enjoyed himself so far and has conveyed that to Devin which they think has had an impact. Also, we were in here really early and have been able to establish ourselves. Similar to with Coney, Miami is the competition. However this feels more one sided right now than Coneys did, in favor of ND.

Knock on wood, but I wonder if UF or FSU offering would change things. I haven't seen that anywhere and I obviously think this kid is good enough to play there.

This is good news and good to hear about Coney enjoying himself.

I think Coney is going to be a super star for ND when all said and done.

Whether stud ends up ND or not. The fact Coney is acclimating early is the best news from this update.

Scout: One visit on deck for Studstill

It won't be long before Devin Studstill steps up to the plate and announces his commitment to one lucky school, but what's the plan moving forward for the standout safety out of Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) Community?

Versatile Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) athlete Devin Studstill won't be waiting until next February to inform a school of his commitment to their football program and university. Instead, the safety will begin to shrink his list in hopes of finding a trio of schools to zero in on prior to making his decision known later this summer.

"Starting at 15, each week I will narrow down my list until (I reach) my top three," Studstill said. "I will start on July 1st going in intervals of five, so 15, 10, five and then three. Then I will make my commitment in August after some officials."

For this summer, the lone date that's circled on the calendar for Studstill is June 19 for Notre Dame's Irish Invasion festivities. Running backs coach Autry Denson continues to stay in constant contact with the 6-foot-1, 190-pound safety, who's very high on the Fighting Irish early on.

"The only plans I have this summer is for the Irish Invasion," Studstill said. "They're an academic school and that's what it's all about. They definitely like my speed and instincts back at safety, so my ball hawk ability. That's what they like the most."

Residing just over an hour south from Studstill's home in Palm Beach County, the University of Miami was the school growing up and one that's more accessible than some of the additional schools on his list.

"I like the environment and it's close to home, so I definitely like that," Studstill said. "It's just a great feel out there and it's very intense at practice the way I like it. Academic wise, they have a strong support system. I know a lot of players at Miami right now as well."

Studstill, the son of former West Virginia gunslinger, Darren Studstill, wouldn't mind following in his father's footsteps up in Morgantown, where he would have an opportunity to crack the lineup sooner rather than later.

"It feels like a home away from home because I know a lot of people up there," Studstill said. "My dad has a lot of connections, so I know if I go up there, I'll be well taken care of and I won't miss a beat. I can also play my freshman year because they have a lot of people leaving, so it's just a good feel up there."

Studstill has additional offers on the table from the likes of Kentucky, Louisville, Illinois, Michigan State, Penn State, Rutgers, Wisconsin and Syracuse.

Scout: ND meets Studstill's expectations

The Irish Invasion helped put Notre Dame in the top five for three-star safety Devin Studstill of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Notre Dame is highly involved in the recruitments of two standout Florida safeties, with Spencer Perry and Devin Studstill both moving the Irish up their board last weekend following stops at the Irish Invasion.

Studstill, a 6-foot-1, 183-pound athlete from Palm Beach Gardens, visited with his head coach and teammate, Florida State linebacker commitment VanDarius Cowan.

“I really enjoyed it,” Studstill said. “It was my first time visiting, and it was as good as I thought it was going to be.”

The highlight of the trip for Studstill was watching film with defensive graduate assistant and former Notre Dame linebacker Maurice Crum.

“It was great to pick the brains of the coaches because we were able to watch film from Irish Invasion today,” Studstill said. “I sat down with coach Mo (Crum), and we went over everything from last night. He said that I shuffled my feet really well, I have good make up speed, and overall I played well.”

Following Studstill’s experience at Notre Dame, the Irish secured a firm spot in his top five. Miami and West Virginia are also top contenders, though he has yet to release an official list of top schools.

“I need to sit down with my family and figure all of that out,” Studstill said. “I am going to take all of my official visits before I decide.”

Studstill was named to Irish Illustrated’s list of top five defensive performers on the night after he showcased an aggressive demeanor and instinctive play in the secondary.

He has no other visits planned this summer.

Studstill is the former teammate of Irish freshman linebacker TeVon Coney.

Studstill is a three-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 77 safety in the Class of 2016.

After II one of the reporters stated that they think this is very similar to Coney's recruitment in that ND will have been the choice for awhile but he'll let the process play out.

Everyone is on the same page in that he has a spot whenever he wants it.

Is he that talented to save a spot for until the end? Serious question.
