I know we have fought the battle of stars for players but look at his offer list. It is not promising at all for me.

FWIW, he has added North Carolina and Nebraska offers since I created the thread. I updated the OP with his rankings and offers.

I was thinking the same thing, but if the staff likes him, then I do. I've always been on the side that not every 4 or 5 star kid is going to get recognized as a 4 or 5 and a lot of 3's are better than their rankings.

Guys like Jennings are how Virginia Tech made their living for years. The 757 isn't under-scouted anymore but there are other areas that still are. In general, the Carolinas and Virginia still tend to have an abundance of "late blooming" or under-scouted talent because of a lack of coaching, monetary investment in high school football programs, and community care/hype train.

I also doubt he's a lock even if we're ready to accept his commitment if Mike London is on the case for UVA, he's a very good recruiter.

Unless we're getting Bud Foster as well, I would say this means nothing right now.

How big of a deal is it going to be if someone wants him at WR? Sounded like his preference.

Perhaps pursuing him as a WR or at least telling him he'll have an opportunity to compete?

Means Jennings is more interested in playing WR and wants any team recruiting to open to it. So far ND has wanted him for safety but now may be willing to offer him as an athlete and give him a look at WR. He's more likely to choose ND if he gets that option. Kid is a premeir athlete who is under rated for sure.

Guessing we were slow playing, and now that we've struck out with some others, we're fast playing.

No we were never slow playing him. We wanted him for safety but his preference has been WR first and other schools have offered him to play WR. Now I think we value his athleticism and upside so much we'd take him as an athlete with the understanding he'll be given an opportunity at WR.

IMO, same thing. We offered him at S, he didn't bite, we lost out on others, now we remove the S tag.

That doesn't make any sense. Our need is safety not WR. If we struck out at WR then it might make sense but we have plenty of receivers. And we still have several prospects on the board at safety.

Not to mention we supposedly have a silent commit at WR.

Telling him what he wants to hear...it's not any different than what happens every year with several recruits

This.
That was my point although I did not express it well. Earlier is seems we only offered at S. Some things didn't turn out like we wanted with others, so now it appears we have changed our approach to accept WR first, knowing he has other potential skills should WR not work out. Call it slow playing or conditional position offer, which turned into an open offer. Unless he killed it at WR on one of the camps, season, or AA games, the WR offer doesn't make a lot of sense given the stack we have at that position.

The offer for WR makes perfect sense. Kid's athleticism is off the charts. The other schools he's looking at are projecting him at WR. Reason he's only a 3 star is he didn't do the summer camp circuit. I'd take him all day over ESB. Regardless of whether he plays WR or S in college he has a chance to be a special player.

probably will be recruited as an athlete and not just a DB, which gives him the chance to play offense

Per TV, we have as good of a shot as anyone he's still considering down the stretch. UV and WVU both still get OV's this month.

So Chris Beatty was an assistant (WR's coach and his primary recruiter) at Wisconsin and had developed a good relationship with Gary . Now that he's at UV, the thought process is this could really help their efforts with him. He's taking an OV there this weekend. Both schools were recruiting him as a WR.

However, the news surrounding Beatty was not the only thing Jennings learned this past week. The playmaker also found out that Notre Dame is now recruiting him as an athlete and not just a defensive back.
“It doesn't change drastically but it gives me more of an open mind about them.”
With 20 days until signing day Jennings could be making his decision quick.
“I would like to make that announcement not too long after that last official.”

Perhaps too late but nice to hear this. He'd be a welcome late add to this class. From ISD
