Is this the worst receiving group we’ve had in a while? I don’t mean in terms of star ratings, but rather productivity and execution.

I’m definitely not disagreeing with that, but they have also consistently missed very catchable passes in key moments throughout the season.

They have had some bad drops, but I also wonder how much of that is not having the right touch on a ball and how Wimbush's ball tends to wobble a fair amount.

Guys let's be real here. All season he has consintely over thrown the ball. It's frustrating as hell and ESB almost got killed yesterday!!!

I wonder if the 2nd half yesterday allowed the ND offense to regain some mojo. Would like to see Josh run better, but if Mack catches that pass, it doesn't come down to the 4th down play at the end.

I would have Wimbush run more.

The thought that it would expose him to much contact that would affect his passing is flawed. His passing affects his passing....Wimbush is at his best running the ball.

Wisconsin beat Michigan by 2 TDs yesterday. Their QB was 9/19 for 143 yards and an interception.

Wimbush is not good with short throws, short-to-intermediate timing throws, screens, or a lot of what a QB should be able to execute. He overthinks his "touch" throws it's really that simple. Look at the early miss to Alize where he double clutches thinking about where he should actually try to lead him to.

He started the game 1-5 when Chip Long was asking him to do stuff he's bad at. He was then 8-12 for 2 TDs once they asked him to rip it downfield. Of those four incompletions, 2 were perfectly thrown balls that WRs dropped. The other two were missses on... you guessed it... intermediate passes.

Final stat line... 9/18 for 9.1 YPA with 5 drops (2 of those drops could've been better throws). QBR of 93.1. People grossly overstate how much Wimbush is hurting the offense... it's equally if not moreso the fact that the offense is asking him to do what everyone knows he is bad at. You don't scheme up wide open 3s for Shaq and then complain when he bricks them... the flaw is asking Shaq to hang out at the 3 point line.

Generally agree. Wimbush settled down after that drive late in the second quarter when he could just sit back and fling it. He's not so good on the timing routes and intermediate stuff, which is a lot harder (might recall Kizer also struggled with short/intermediate stuff his first season).

Also, aside from Stepherson, his WRs have done him no favors. Way too many drops, or deep balls they don't quite get to (that's not just on the QB). Especially from ESB and Mack. Both those guys are too talented to be so unproductive.

I actually thought BW was looking a lot better in the middle/second half of the season, up until the Miami Fla. game when their pressure, and the moment, got to him. And like Lax said he did fine in the second half last night, in some difficult conditions.

Regardless, he's our QB, for at least another season. And he's got loads of talent and a big arm. I think the answer is making BW a better passer, not finding a different passer.

Yes BW has some mechanical flaws but they can be fixed. At the beginning of the year, if someone told you that ND would be 9-2 going to Stanford and top 10 if CFP ranking with BW accounting for 2273 yds 28 TD's and 4 Int's you wouldn't be excited?

Somewhat disagree.

Drafting Shaq and then try and explain why he can’t rebound is like playing Wimbush at QB and have to explain why he can’t throw an 8 yard out. Or a crossing pattern consistently.

The crossing TD to Stepherson was one he had overthrown all year.

I know you want to blame BW’s inability to make the most basic of pass on Long, but it isn’t long. It is 100% BW. If any of the blame is to go to a coach I would look at Rees

Unless you've been at every practice observing Rees coaching Wimbush then you have no idea what kind of coach Rees is. My guess would be that BW is getting good coaching during the week but has trouble translating that to games. It happens to some players.

It feels like if ND comes out throwing right away BW struggles. If he gets hit a few times first he seems to settle down. I think if the game plan is to throw from the beginning he gets too tight. Give him a run or two early and then get him throwing would most likely calm him down some. He just seems to get too amped up in the beginning of games.

I just found this old tweet leading up to the Miami game.
I guess Wimbush's bad game was due to a reporter that jinxed him.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Kelly asked about Brandon Wimbush not throwing interception since Boston College Game... results in death stare from Kelly about jinxing it.</p>— Angelo Di Carlo (@angdicarlowndu) <a href="https://twitter.com/angdicarlowndu/status/927952012376985601?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">November 7, 2017</a></blockquote>

Anyone else fell that Wimbush hasn’t improved much if at all during the course of the season? I sure hope he gets things corrected during the off-season, as I see Phil pushing him big Time if he doesn’t.

I like Rees as a person and a player. However, he was in no way shape or form ready to be a QB coach at this level.

You can see it in his eyes. He’s out there praying every time he drops back. Has been in most of the games this year.

You can’t blame this on Reese. It’s the Whitfield effect. Stop send QB to train with him.
