If I'm a QB recruit I don't go to Oregon. They can't guarantee me anything. If I go there and I'm in line to get the starting job...not so fast my friend.

Fair, and I don't like the approach, not surprised that you are seeing the program regress as it has. A lot has to do with not having a program QB, IMO.

However, if I'm Blake Barnett, and I look at their depth chart. I'm laughing at the thought of competing with who they have. Plus, its the perfect offense for him.

At what point in the season/school year does said year not count as the sit out year? If I phrased that right lol

The point where the guy takes a snap for his former team in a game for sure, but I think once he has dressed for any competitions his year is out the window.

Where does he end up?

My guesses are Cal or Washington with LSU and UCLA as other possible options.

ETA: damn, how did I forget Oregon, they have to be in the top group.

If he doesn't have the chest for Bama, he probably doesn't have the chest for LSU.

I think Lucky is onto something. If he's getting married, he'll end up close to home. His GF may be the reason he's transferring. We've seen how that goes before.

Transferring and red-shirting don't necessarily go together. He has to sit a year regardless of if he played or not. The redshirt determines how many years he has left. He can petition the NCAA to play earlier, but it's not guaranteed. Redshirt is determined by the amount of playing time experienced that season. If he's played in most or every game regardless of the number of snaps, he can't use it as a redshirt.

It never not counts, as was pointed out. You're committed from the time you sign and submit your LOI. After that, unless you fall into one of the exception categories, you must sit out a year at your new school.

I really don't get the move of quitting mid season? He still has to sit out 2017 so now he basically misses two years? Why not hang in there for the season, travel all over the country, possibly win a championship. Heck he is literally one play away from leading one of the best teams in the country. Makes no sense. So short sighted.

This type of transfer works in basketball because you are eligible at the break. Barnett will enroll at a new school in Jan. He will miss next season which would be his RS Soph. He can play in '18 as a RS Jr. and '19 as a RS Sr.

There is a chance he could play in a bowl game next year if they needed him. I transferred at the break and at that time, I became eligible the day after the university's last day of fall term final exams. If that's still the rule, he can play before Christmas.

I don't know if Arizona's been mentioned as a landing spot. I wouldn't sleep on them. Oregon, UofA or UCLA.

UCLA needs him. True freshman Devon Modster is the only 4 star QB in the system behind Rosen and they have nothing better coming in '17.

Bad decision. I understand him wanting to transfer, but why now? He can't play anywhere else this season, he can stay at Bama the rest of the year and see some playing time and get in some practice, and Hurts could get injured, making Barnett the starter.

Not to mention he'd be giving up a chance at playing on a title winning team. Even if he has a small role, it's still a significant accomplishment. Really makes no sense.

Refresh my memory. Wasn't his dad very involved with his recruitment?

several sources are indicating that According to bylaw 14.5.6 in the NCAA transfer guide, Barnett as a 4-2-4 transfer (four-year institution, to a junior college, and back to a four-year institution), can be eligible one calendar year from the date of his transfer from Alabama so long as he graduates with a GPA above 2.5 over an average of 12 hours per term at the certifying institution of Barnett’s choosing

some sources said this is correct while some other sources said still isn't going to happen...BUT this is why he is making the move NOW in an attempt

Alabama QB Blake Barnett has more options than you think as a transfer

That explains the timing.
