Watch his film.

Fair enough. Watched the first three minutes and I don't know that our current QB is capable of making any of those plays. He's certainly got wheels. Made some nice throws. Looks like a ballplayer. Any idea why he doesn't he have better offers than second-tier Pac 10?

Don't get me wrong - I love getting highly rated commitments. But if Kizer pans out and doesn't leave early, Barnett has one year. Obviously having multiple elite QBs fosters competition, and some would say that you have to plan for attrition. However, I feel like this is a self-fulfilling prophecy. If we recruit an elite QB every year, one has to transfer. There's no point going to a school to play backup and maybe play for one year if you have NFL aspirations. I respect him for being a competitor but there's no way all these QBs stay. All that being said, I'm excited about Barnett.

People are doing that?

But for what it's worth an elite QB on this 2013 quad would probably have them in the NC again..

One person is doing that. Not sure about NC with elite QB, but BCS game likely already locked in for sure. I don't deny it's the single biggest difference making position on the field, but it seems silly to declare a NC because of it lol

Him committing is great.

Him committing early and give the rest of the 2015-ers the peace of mind that they are going to have one of if not THE best QBs in the country in their class?

Fucking priceless!

Huge pickup. I honestly haven't been this excited about an ND quarterback prospect since Dayne.

Tillery, Barnett, and Hodge? Umm... Yes please.

Part of the reason is 2015 is absolutely stacked for QB in 2015 so the Stanford, Oregon, USC etc are locking in on one of two guys out of the group of Rosen, Dillman, Town, White and Barnett. Other part of it is Barnett had a much better season this year IMO than those guys ranked above him who had offers before this year even started.

And if Zaire pans out, Kizer has one year. But I'm pretty sure after the last few years that Kelly is more than willing to take his chances with transfers in exchange for having several play-able QBs he can plug in without needing to totally revamp the offense.

Golson, Zaire, Kizer, and Barnett. One per year is exactly what we should be taking.

That makes sense. I recall that other QB from California (Rosen?) who we were on for awhile but who sounds like a Stanford lock. I'm sure USC will get their man, too. Glad to have this guy.

yada, yada, yada...

Exceptionally good player we have in our hands. Zaire, Kizer, your mother...I'm sure are all good.

This kid is different, imo. Been wrong before but we'll see.

Yeah, that's a valid point. I don't know how USC managed to keep so many talented QBs and RBs on their rosters during their dynasty, but I don't think it can happen nowadays. Kids are more ready coming out of high school and want to play sooner, so when there's a logjam at a position they cut and run. If we are somehow able to keep them, we're in a damn good position for the next 6 years.

Getting an elite QB early to headline a class is so huge in recruiting too. The biggest reason the '08 class was so good on paper was because Dayne Crist was committed so early and was such a great recruiter and recruiting piece for ND.

My excitement at that doesn't even include his elite potential as a CFB QB. His ceiling is as high as any HS QB ND has recruited that I can remember.

Happy dance.

I'll take Blake all day any day. He is the best of those you mention.

If one had to guess right now, Kizer is the most likely odd man out. But we'll see. A lot of player development to come yet.

Couple that with the fact that (like Crist), Blake is from California?

That amplifies this impact IMO.

i know this isn't his thread, but i wouldn't sell deshone short. very interested to see his growth as a full time football player.

eitherway if we can get golson back next year we are looking very solid at the QB position on paper for the next few years.

One player does not make a championship team, let alone 14-22 months before he ever steps foot on campus. Does he he have the potential to be a special one? Hard to say. Lots of love coming his way, but to declare a NC because of his verbal? That's just silly talk.

Cam Newton and Vince Young disagree.

Good Lord, some of those throws I had to rewind multiple times. A 45-yard sideline frozen rope on the run! Ridiculous that he's not rated much, much higher. His mid-season junior highlights are 10000000x better than Shane Morris' and Morris was (completely undeservedly) a 5-star.

I wish he could play next week.

Not selling Deshone short at all. The more the merrier.
