Well...I will put the over under at 60 TDs this year then

Sophomore: 185 carries - 1,941 yards - 35 touchdowns
Junior: 278 carries - 3,309 yards - 48 touchdowns

I hope not. The last thing we want is our star RB recruit getting the ball over 300 times in a season. That's a lot of workload and that's how nagging injuries like shoulders, ankles and knees begin. By getting overworked.

I would like to see him at 200 carries, 45 TD's and 2,400 yards. That is baller and not nearly as risky for us as fans.

Just imagine his stats if he played the whole game every time!?!?! IIRC, Hood said (in a older quote) that he only really played the first half of the game. Coaches took him out because he established his team a sizeable lead, and didn't want to risk any injury to him.

I remember that too, but do we know if that is accurate last season? He had a significant jump in carries and it's hard to believe that a kid could rack up 278 carries in just the first halfs of a high school football schedule.

In a college 12 game schedule, that's 23 carries a game.

His team played 12 games. They lost three games (so I assume he was in the whole game) and they played in four games that were pretty close (you could even consider a fifth game, at 48-20, as pretty close) which means he was probably in the whole game as well.

So that's seven or eight games in which he played beyond halftime (perhaps more, if some of the blowouts weren't blowouts until late in the third quarter or after). Long story short, I think you're right Wooly.

Regardless, in high school offenses in general tend to be more run oriented. so 23 carries a game wouldn't be anything crazy (or even out of the ordinary with a back that talented).

It would be if it was all done in first halfs of games. I think irishlion laid it out pretty well. I would also add that high school football quarters are typically 12 minutes of game time. That would mean that Hood averaged a carry at a clip of almost 1 per minute of game time (If he was getting pulled at halftime, mind). Kinda hard to do that when the clock runs when he is tackled in bounds and the other team gets to play on offense too.

hmmmmm....I don't agree with this. Greg Bryant is more of a pure RB, is quicker, has better vision and has more wiggle.

Hood is a beast though. Down hill runner. Now that I think about it he reminds me of Larry Johnson.

It is hard to tell. Greg plays against some really top competition. Makes him look smaller and slower respective to Hood's, I will wager. But bottom line. I like the thought of having them and Folston three years from now!

Well apparently Charlotte Catholic is moving up to 4A this season, and are playing some tougher competition (Ardrey Kell, Berry, Providence, Northwestern [SC], Gonzaga Prep [DC], Mallard Creek), and if they can go the distance, a matchup with David W. Butler could be a possibility in the playoffs.

2 years, 2 running back sets with Hood and Bryant in the backfield, Folston in the slot and Zaire at QB. Any one of them can run, all but Zaire can catch the ball. This is going to be a scary good offense that can attack all over the field. throw in Daniels on the outside and Brown or Brent on the outside and one of a handful of good TEs to mix it up. Going to be fun to watch.

By "pure" rb, means he can do it all. Meaning he can run (obviously), catch and pass protect.

Because of the style of offence the Cougars (Charlotte Catholic) run, the Wing T, Hood doesn't need to catch the ball or pass block. His strict duty is to pound the rock. Now, it's been observed by many scouts at camps and The Opening, that Hood has really soft hands and made some pretty tough catches in traffic, and some acrobatic ones too. But, you don't get to see that on film, because like I said, his job is to just run the ball. Not much receiving and little to no blocking involved in Hood's game.

If Bryant and Hood were in the same recruiting class, I'd probably say that Bryant would see the field first barring injury. For RB's to see the field at ND, Kelly has said that they must be able to pass protect, or they won't be on the field. Bryant's abilities are a little more advanced than Hood's at this point in time, but that doesn't mean Hood can't be on Bryant's "pureness" level, just that he was some work to do first!

it may not he on high school film but what i just watched at the opening showed me all i need to see about his ability to catch the ball.

as far as pass blocking, doing it at hs level and doing it against the schedule we play are night and day.

Agreed. I watch Bryant, Hood and Folston highlights once a day. It's gonna be tough waiting until all three of them are on the team, having to wait for the three headed monster we will unleash in the future! That's just gonna be insane to watch, especially with the talent and depth we are building on the OL. All-American seasons out of these guys could definitely be a possibility down the road!!

It amazing how these teams with 8-9 guys in the box can't stop him at the line. It also explains why so many long runs after he breaks through the line. My god he hits the hole quickly.
