Didn't realize how bare Florida is at QB. The junior who started six games before getting hurt last year is going to miss spring ball for surgery and doesn't look like he was any great shakes to begin with. There's a couple of redshirt freshmen who've never played. Even with relatively little game experience for a 5Y, MZ could well walk in as the most qualified guy they've got. Though it certainly would help him to be there for spring.

their offenses have been putrid lately though. It's not like they are just a QB away from glory. He could take a pounding there/be running for his life all year

Florida must run an offense that involves a heavy dose of QB running/option or Malik will have a rough go.

I hope I'm wrong but he's definitely not a pocket QB, he's a roll the pocket, change the launch point guy. He needs to get dirty to be successful and that involves a lot of QB designed runs.

I'll always thank him for sh!tting on LSU in the bowl game. He looked so confident in that offensive package.

Same. Very few times did we line up with Luatua when Malik was in last year. They were effective in pushing the Tigers around in that game when he was in formations. I hope he finds lots of success wherever he goes.

What shoddy reporting: "Because of consistent injury issues, Zaire has only appeared in 15 games total since 2014." One ankle injury equates to consistent injury issue(s)? The injury really only affected the 2015 season, although it probably set him back developmentally and the offense changed/evolved while Kizer was at the helm.

Zaire isn't going anywhere unless guaranteed starting job. Otherwise what would be the point. He has one year remaining so he wants assurances he'll be the starter. Hornibrook still has three years eligibility remaining.

my buddy thinks it would be a bad move. He thinks Hornibrook would get the start over Zaire.

Me too. Hornibrook has been in the system already plus he has starting experience in Chryst's pro style offense. Zaire would be trying to pick up the system in June, hasn't started for Chryst, and isn't used to a more pro-style attack.

Very bad move, IMO. Should have looked at a UC, Miami OH, directional Michigan school, SMU, etc. type school that already has some talent but could use a good QB and he'd be the de facto starter.

He's obviously not going to UNC

I don't see how he's the starter at Wisky

Florida may not pan out

What's option #4?

Of the schools, none he will start. He could start tomorrow for the Vols or Vandy. That's all that has been on the radio the past few days here in Nashville - how neither team has a solid starter and only Freshmen and Sophs to choose from.

What is the status of QB at Miami-OH and Cincy?

He could go play for some former ND coaches.

Apparently, Texas is interested

"Chip Brown of Horns Digest reports that Texas will pursue Notre Dame senior QB Malik Zaire as a graduate transfer.

Texas whiffed in its chase of LSU quarterback Brandon Harris -- Harris chose North Carolina -- and will now turn its attention to another marquee grad transfer. Horns HC Tom Herman has expressed interest in adding a veteran signal-caller to compete with sophomore Shane Buechele (the incumbent starter) and true freshman Sam Ehlinger. According to reports, Zaire was considering Wisconsin, Baylor and North Carolina immediately after he announced he'd leave Notre Dame. Since then, both Baylor and UNC have signed grad transfer quarterbacks."

I don't see any scnerio where Zaire goes to Texas... If he wants to start, why go someone where a true sophomore played as a Fresh and did well and is obviously their future... Seems like an uphill battle to win

Unless Herman wants to utilize a two QB system with him as a running threat. He had some experience with that while at OSU.

Cincy would have been perfect had Torrance Gibson not signed up. He's heading to Cincy to play QB.

And Miami might have the next big non-power-5 QB on their team right now, don't know if Martin would want to stir the pot (or if Zaire would even start over Ragland anyway).

maybe its already been asked but is it possible for malik to stay at ND? I know he wants to play and that most likely wont happen at nd but could he stay with the team?

So I happened to flip to Florida's spring game and they were discussing MZ and clarified the situation at UF. They had a grad transfer flunk out in 2015 and got slapped by the SEC with a 3 year ban on grad transfers. The announcer said there was some hope among the UF staff that the rule could get repealed, but it likely is not going to happen.

The decision on whether that sanction will stand is to be decided on or by Apr 27th.

It's just the same thing we've all said. Florida is his #1, but he has to wait for a rule change.
