Please expound on this a little further. What is it specifically that our OL is lacking? We've arguably recruited the position better than any other team in the nation over the last few cycles, so the issue can't be general quality.

OL can't keep defenders hands down. They rarely provide a functional pocket and when they do it collapses on the 5-10 QB who desperately needs the space to see over them.

How does that translate to Zone Blocking for the run?

It doesn't, I obviously misread the post.

Hopefully next year, the OL will have some real guards playing instead of 4 HS LT's and Nick Martin. This line will be better when guys like Montelus, Mustipher, Byrne and Hoge develop and get into the line-up.

Oregon runs a run first, zone read option offense that has a tremendous amount of success without physically imposing offensive lineman. They consistently run the ball more than they throw and sometimes by a wide margin. Now, do they have more speed than we do sure but we're getting close and Royce freeman isn't LaMichael James fast and he's still insanely productive that offense.

You know what's sad? Oregon is able to field a good offensive line and we aren't. Oregon has had 4 4-star OL recruits over the last 4 seasons. ND had that many just last year! Not to mention 5 the year before!

I used to be team-Golson before Saturday. Hand over the keys to Malik.

Agreed. Even if Zaire comes in and has 4 turnovers and ND loses by 28 (or more), it won't be any different then the last month of the season. Why not throw Zaire a bone and let's see what he's got.

Zaire is an unknown quantity, we don't know what he has to offer. Golson, we know what we got, 300+ yards, 31+ points, 3+ turnovers and a loss.

The audience doesn't know. The coaching staff sorta does.

ESPN reporting Zaire gets the start vs lsu

BITCHIN!!! I hope he takes this opportunity and makes the most of it. It will be interesting to see how much playing time each QB gets. I don't care about his completion % as long as he doesn't turn the ball over and the Irish WIN.

I also hope it motivates EG to be the player he has shown he is capable of at OU in 2012 and FSU in 2014.

I got to say I'm excited about this. It will be good to see what he can do. Tough defense and circumstance to get his first start. Go Irish!!

I wonder if he'll look Kelly in the eye when he speaks to him after a 3 and out.

Golson still hasn't got that one down.

Is this the all around feeling of those close to the program? This QB situation is always hard on me because I tend to get those feelings for them just as If we were talking coach change..
On that lost note, I will stand by Kelly until the end with QB transitions, because It's not one man that makes the other dance.

here is my advice for Malik on the start and possibly being a little anxious, "Reverse that!"

More eloquently said by Pops from Boomerang:

Thank you...I've noticed this dating back to 2012. I've commented on it a couple times but nobody ever responded one way or another. Anyway, it's the sign of immaturity and lack of respect. In order to be a good leader you must also be able to follow.

I do think we will see some Golson in this game though.

@BGI_AndrewOwens: Malik Zaire will be the first left-handed quarterback to start in #NotreDame history tomorrow.

Yeah, and he always sulks by himself on the bench. I recall a video showing Kelly during 2012 urging Golson to go be with his teammates, but he still refuses to do so. Not a leader.

I know we're piling on the guy, but he's a senior and needs to be better.

No sympathy. Does he want to play in the league?

Not that he's good enough, but if he doesn't mature, it'll be a real quick stint.

I do, too. But if he needs THIS, after losing 5 of the last 6, including the last 4 straight.........

My prediction-Golson goes to Wisc, Ucla, Florida, or fill in the blank on who needs a QB next year. And I wouldn't blame him, Kelly has just tipped his hand for next year.

It took too long IMO for MZ to get his chance. I will be glad to see him starting under center for the IRISH tomorrow. Thank you EG for your contributions but we as fans deserve to see what the future holds!

IF Zaire plays well, Golson is gone.
