I could see the comparison, particularly in Hawaii, but beyond the state line I think it's not that much. Beside being from the same high school, I wouldn't have compared them all.

It looks to me, with an uneducated eye, while playing ILB is the same, his skill set ii a little different.

EDIT: 247 article says he will definitely visit ND. Don't know if it's premium, so I won't post quotes. Also seems to say a big negative is that coming from the same school as Manti he's been compared to him his entire career and he doesn't want to deal with that anymore... which is what he would have to do at ND.

Isaac Savaiinaea opens up his recruitment

According to multiple mods, we're definitely recruiting him.

It is VIP, Sapp said a couple days ago we've been working to stay involved.

From looking through old articles and A&M247 board they are running second (1. Stanford 2. A&M)

It definitely sounded like (hopefully poor wording) a let's get this ND visit over with so I'm not compared to Manti

Any info on why he opened things up? Backstory...?

A respected Southern Cal poster over on the ND Rivals message board posted that he heard through friends that Stanford cooled on him. He's usually pretty knowledgeable about goings on in the Pac-10. Doesn't mean he's right, just reporting what I read.

Thanks OCI. Seems crazy that Stanford would cool on him given the ratings, but recruiting is a strange beast. Regardless, appreciate the info! Hoping we can warm things up and get a visit locked down soon. Landing him, and Azalone, would be the biggest LB haul ever given the ones already committed. Landing even 1 of the 2 would likely make this the best LB class ever. Good to be Irish.

This kid can cover space for an ILB and plays as violently as he11. He is huge, and can cover. We could even use him for punt returns. AND I LIKE SOME OF HIS MUSIC, that shiit kray!

Like I said earlier in the thread, I would take his as the last target for LB. I love the highlights.

It would be very nice to get him. I think if he does make a visit and gets Manti to show him around it would really change his tune. For right now I'm just glad that we are on his mind!

That's interesting. Who would have thought that Manti would hurt our recruitment of a Hawaiian.

But hey... if he really wants to get out of Manti's shadow, then going to Notre Dame gives him an opportunity to proceed Manti. If he has a better career than Manti (maybe win a championship?), then he can be proactive in getting out of his shadow. Going to another school certainly blazes his own trail, but that doesn't help him get out of Manti's shadow.

I hope he can see Notre Dame as an opportunity to prove himself and take on an ultimate challenge. Going somewhere else is the easy way out.

Just typin'...

There are a billion people worse than Manti, to be compared to. Isaac, you are a talented ILB, that went to the same HS as arguably the best football player to come out of your state. Is that a bad thing.
I am sure Manti would say, I just want to be the best Manti Teo, I can be. Isaac should take the same tact.
Prior to Manti, who is the best linebacker to come out of Hawaii? Gary Campbell?

Still committed to Stanford. Said he was misunderstood in his quote. He was just trying to say he is open to listening to other schools and will take said visits.

no, we have Rabasa, Grace, and Utupo in the waiting. I guess Alex could be in the two deep for ILB next year if we get him. Deeb will probably not see the field. LB core is pretty deep and stacked, the only LB in this class that will see a lot of PT next year is Jaylon Smith. OLB is stacked as well, but Jaylon has to be on the field somewhere.

Moore, and some say Schmidt may work his way on to the field. And Utupo plays bunches of positions.

I knew I forgot someone, so ya, I doubt Alex even makes the two deep with all those ILB.

How you gonna keep em all straight? Isn't it great how the chart is getting more and more crowed at almost every position? GO IRISH!

If you look at our depth at ILB it is a priority need.....
After Manti leaves we will have:

Grace- Stands as #5 replacement right now

Combo Calabrese/Fox- if asked back for 5th will stay at WILB

Moore- seems to be a disappointment he appears to have all the athletic ability in the world but is lack Knowledge and understanding?

Schmidt- special teams player and 20lbs short of seeing the field.... undersized.

Utupo- Not a true lb. maybe better off suited as CAT. but most comfortable with his hand in the dirt.

Wild Card* Rabasa- He has great size and athleticism. I'd personally like to see him be able to become a flex LB. a guy they can have play inside or outside.

After this season we need a minimum of 2 ILB (Deeb, Anzalone) with a possibility of taking 3 would be great (Savalinaea)

Great breakdown NYMike! But from what I have heard Grace is going to be hard to keep off the field this year, and Moore has little problem. He just needs some upper class juice.

I've heard the same but i interpreted as lots of special teams action.... but it's also quite obvious that if Grace is that big of a Werwolf and the combo of Fox/Carlo struggles the Werwolf is going to get more time to attack....

Owww. The carnage could be awful! And remember BD has his idea which position an ILB plays and that is that.

Thanks GBD. Hoping to see this one bumped for a while. This is definitely a guy I'd keep a spot open for or decrease my 5th years for.

WANT. Perfect Mike. Dream LB class for me is Jaylon at DOG, Anzalone at Will, Isaac at Mike, and Alquadin at CAT.

Man, what a lineup that would be. Four guys who are all all over the field all the time.
