USC Trojans Football Recruiting: Latest Offers and Kiffin’s Quandary » College Football Daily News - Get all your football news on one site

Yuri Wright

This 4-star (as rated by Scout.com) cornerback has just about everything you could look for in terms of size (6’2″, 180 lbs.) and talent.

However, it may be that size that eventually forces him to safety at the next level.

Wherever he winds up, Wright will be a difference maker.

But probably not for the Trojans.

In addition to the offer he holds from USC, Wright has offers from programs such as Alabama, Michigan and Georgia.

But they all will have to beat out Notre Dame for his services and this is where Wright is expected to wind up.

This is great news...Wright could endup at safety and we could add Geno Smith as a corner...

Wow I would not have thought we were the team to beat. Awesome!

He as mentioned us his leader on more than one occasion.

If Im not mistaken, the staff has cooled on him over the past month with questions of his ability to qualify. Hopefully everything gets worked out because both sides would benefit greatly.

TT mentioned earlier that Yuri wasn't aware that the coaches werent allowed to contact him during the dead period, hence the assumed "cool down".

It also screams assumptions about contact from other schools during the dead period.

Just read up on the thread. Good news but still not suprising that we are on top of his list. As far as I know it's been this way for awhile.

Interest is obviously still very high if he contacted the coaching staff. I would say that Wright ends up at safety without a doubt, even if we don't land Geno.

One of Shaq, Yuri, or Bush would be an amazing get at safety.

Makes you wonder if we've ever missed on a recruit because ND followed the rules while other schools didn't. "All these other schools were calling me, but I didn't hear anything from ND, so I assumed they didn't want me."

It can. I don't know the details of this situation but in general the NCAA Recruiting Regulations specify the when a recruiter can initiate contact with a prospect, how often they can do so, and what that contact can include.

For example during the Evaluation Period when recruiters go on campus they meet with the prospect's coach to discuss a prospect and his grades they are permitted incidental contact with the prospect such as "running into him" in passing. What usually happens is the HS coach calls the prospect to his office and the recruiter is sitting in the office, a "running into". There's supposed to be a nod of acknowledgement and that's about it. A recruiter walking to the gym and sitting with the recruit to watch a HS basketball game is a violation. Saban, for example, pushes the envelope on "running into" recruits.

As for calls, the regs specify when the college recruiters can make contact. During Quiet Periods ( which I think is now, June 1st, but I haven't checked that) the recruiter isn't supposed to call (unless he works for Kiffen) BUT the prospect can still call the recruiter. I suspect that was the basis for Wright not knowing he was supposed to make the call.

Keep in mind this is a recruit's first time being recruited. The recruiter's have the NCAA regs beat into their heads (supposedly) by their head coach and their school's compliance personnel. Recruiters have to take written NCAA tests on the rules and be certified by the NCAA before they can recruit. Recruit's frequently rely on their coach to advise them of the recruiting rules and what the prospect can and can't do. While many coaches may be unbiased if a coach prefers his kids stay instate at State U for instance he may forget to mention that the recruit can initiate contact.

This is great info- very clarifying. Thanks, BGIF!

Hopefully not, but kinda hard to believe it hasn't happened at least once :pityno:

A few of us have posted about how high Wright is on ND. Not sure why people are surprised.

The safety move is for other teams. Yuri fits the Diaco CD profile to a T. of course he could move down the road, but like Tee Shepard, Wright is exactly what ND is looking for in a CB.

May have something to do with the fact that there have been little to no updates on his situation lately. Fortunately, we realize why this is now...

Believe a few DB kids went out to visit freshman RB Tony Jones (DB alum) in Boulder and liked what they saw. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if all DB kids went to RU to try and "bring a championship home".

I think ND gets Wright or Geno Smith.

And potentially Shumate.

As I said before, I think we will get both.

Dont dog CU, fellas. There is a lot to like about the Buffs. Boulder is a beautiful city tucked at the base of the flatirons. The weather is fantastic. The women are beautiful. Medical cabbage is legal. The women are beatiful, and they have a young, enthuisastic coaching staff.
