would be awesome if it happens. Any dates mentioned? Same date as the commits/Jaylon? I think that would be the best case scenario, but I wont dream too much.

And Anzalone. This would be the best case scenario but I still think it's going to be hard to pull him from Fla. These recent events are a turn for the positive though, so we shall see.

Also, does he still want to play WR in college? I just went back through the first 2 pages of this thread and that was brought up. Anyone have any insight? And is it safe to assume the 5:s: and #10 overall is for CB duties?

“@JaeeSmiff9ENT: “@jcoff574: @J_Walls: Now that we got @JaeeSmiff9ENT wonder when @VHargreaves24 is gonna join the mob...”he has to!”

Still not confident we get Vernon but the mob is trying their best.

I think Jaylon is fixated (sp?) on trying to get Vernon because 1) we need him 2) if we can make him feel comfortable he might feel better about leaving the homestate

the biggest chip in Jaylon fell yesterday. The Irish Mob, current ND players and coaches have a great opportunity to get Notre Dame back to it's historic winning ways. Have a great season this year and it won't be a surprise at all to land a couple top players at their position like Hargreaves.

I'm not saying this is anything worth getting excited about, probably no more than just friends chatting, but it looks like, via the twitter machine, Hargeaves texted Jaylon out of the blue last week. Take this at face value but I think landing Jaylon went a long way in hopefully getting Vernon.

Jaylon Smith ‏@JaeeSmiff9ENT
“@VHargreaves24: @JaeeSmiff9ENT i texted u the other day b !”fasho!

If anything it shows that they obviously get along and if they aren't already good friends, they are becoming good friends. Who knows where that will lead? I definetly think it puts us in a much better position than before Jalyon committed too so hell who knows? Oh, and at no point during my incoherent babbling did I say anything with substance. You are all now dumber having listening to me, may God have mercy on your souls!

Jaylon Smith is going balls to the wall to get Hargreaves. If we get him, we can all thank Jaylon

Huge IF...Surprising how positive recruiting news seems to be changing the outlook of the 2012 season...

cut down on the mistakes and all will be good.

Disagree, it's going to be a long year. However, I think we do a better job of holding on to kids this year because of the difference in recruiting strategy. From what I read we sold ourselves as BCS bound last year, and it threw some recruits off when we didn't get close to achieving our (what should have been a reasonable) goal. I wouldn't imagine that we are doing that again this year, so I don't think the losses will be quite as discouraging for recruits as they were last year. They expect what we expect this year.

....what kept us from accomplishing our objective of getting to a BCS...mistakes.

again cut down on the mistakes and all is good.

...if we were playing the same schedule as we were last year then I would agree. But we're not. It's a much harder schedule. We don't need to beat ourselves to lose at night in Norman. Oklahoma will kick our asses without assistance.

true...but we are also not the same team...another year of growth/training/teaching with this staff in this system will go a long way.

I'm a lil more optimistic then most because I saw what could have been with last year then adding in the year of growth minus the turnovers and they can compete.

I think I'm optimistic compared to most, I'm predicting 8 wins. That's a long year to me. My liver takes losses hard.

I agree with Grey in that this year is going to be tougher and am not expecting near as much as last year. We have a brutal schedule, qb situation still isnt figured out, lost both cornerbacks,a first round safety and of course the best WR in Irish history! hoping for the best but 8 wins is probably the best outcome we can expect this year

If we can avoid injury in the secondary and get some better QB play we will be in every game on that schedule.

We have something we haven't had in years, dominance in the trenches. Even with Lynch departing, we still have talented depth on the DL.

The trenches will be the reason we steamroll the weak and the reason we stand toe to toe with the strong.

But damn do we need a Vernon or two in this class.
