Just imagine how we would all feel if ND was in the Playoffs.... Farley will do just fine.

Posted in the bowl game thread, but he was sent home for a violation of team rules. Classic.

Young guys doing young guy stuff I guess. Hope he learns something from this.

Holtz had to send folks home a couple times, and I don't think he got hurt for doing it...hoping the same for BK here. Tough to do the right thing sometimes, but it has got to be done.

Come on Max...get right son.

Karma. Glad Farley is getting a chance to end his career in a big way, I think he'll do as well or better than Redfield would have done.

It's hard to disagree. It's not like we haven't given up TONS of big plays this year already.

Bad news is Farley is acceptable to giving up big plays like Max has been.

Good news is he also has a better history of making big time plays than Redfield. So I don't view it as a huge that Farley is playing, its just a huge loss for depth, though.

Yep. Farley is a play maker, which Max was not.

Max just let down 85 + of his teammates.

I had a major flashback to the title game a few years ago when Eddie Lacey literally ran over Farley multiple times.

Max's Twitter account is restricted, so I can't embed it here, but he just tweeted the following:

Need a new watch! Love everyone who cares about me :)

Sounds like a curfew violation to me.

It sucks because I've never been so jacked about landing a player. I just loved what he brought to the game and he might be the most physically talented safety in the country. It just sucks because he seems to have other interests that come before football. Could have been a failed drug test or something because I can't think of what else it could be. Hope to see you back next year Max and put it all together because we need ya. I wouldn't call a three year starter a bust just yet but he's never lived up tot he 5* potential he still has. He did ball against Clemson but we could have used his ridiculous athleticism in this game.

Who has an alarm set on there watch? I don't think it was curfew, don't think you send a player home because of it either. Have him miss a series or quarter.

More likely he was out enjoying himself at Westgate, time got away from him, and he returned to the team hotel after curfew. Thus, the "I need a new watch" comment. Just a guess, but seems more likely than not based on what we know now.

I ASSUME he was late to meeting or curfew. Just too damn bad that ND has such lofty expectations sometimes, but that's what makes it such a great university to be proud of.

Nov. 26, 1988; Lou Holtz sends his leading receiver (Ricky Watters) and leading rusher (Tony Brooks) home, just 5.5 hours before #1 ND squared off against #2 USC. Both of them were sent home for missing curfew the night before.

As was previously stated: Doing the right thing is not always easy, but it IS the thing to do.

Or possibly the tweet was related to his flight back and his timing getting to the airport

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/dkell9394">@dkell9394</a> yes I did!! Haha thanks a lot, I appreciate it</p>— Floyd (Max) Redfield (@maxired10) <a href="https://twitter.com/maxired10/status/681949369008967680">December 29, 2015</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

It appears he likely sent the tweet about a watch while at the airport

If it's curfew, it's the dumbest thing ever. I fucking loathe how our starting FS will miss a NY6 bowl game because of curfew yet EE gets to drive around with a suspended license with zero repercussion. This is why ND is always the bridesmaid.

I agree with this. he isn't a bust per say, but he hasn't lived up to his 5 star status. but, not every 5 start does.

Letting his teammates down for the biggest game of their careers is worse than to me than not living up to 5 start status.

I believe a big part of the problem is that he's a free safety, which requires arguably more film room time than any position outside of QB, and he's taking 18 credits this semester. I appreciate the fact that he wants an education but that's a course load that's hard enough for people that aren't starting D1 athletes.

If this is just a curfew or meeting thing sitting the player for the first quarter sends the same message as sending him home.

You are just penalizing the rest of the team by sending a starter home for something like this.

I think it also depends on how egregious the lateness was for curfew/meeting. For example if he missed curfew by 10 minutes I would say that it is an overreaction. If he missed it by 5 hours, well that is a different story.

Maybe it was an ongoing issue?

Who knows.

I'd imagine BK has a good reason for sending a starter on an already-thin defense home.

I agree. It is BK's best interest for BK to win this game. He wouldn't send Max packing without good reason. There is something(s) to this story that none us know and maybe never will.

We can only speculate if Urban would have taken the same action without knowing what happened. But it is fair to say he would have had much more leniency.
