Wasn't there an update today saying he was still planning too, you just not buying it?

Pretty much. I put it at 50/50 so wouldn't be surprised either way... just got a gut feeling it doesn't happen. We'll see. Hope I'm wrong.

I agree. Kid justs looks like the perfect FS. 6'2" - 6'3" with long arms.

If we get Redfield, what do you guys think his chances on playing are next year and at what specific positions? I see him playing a little nickel and starting on ST's.

Depends on if he redshirts or not.

I could see him getting similar PT as Shumate did this year

I'd throw him in right away. I understand the advantage of redshirts, but also love the "win today, tomorrow will take care of itself" mantra this program believes in.

Hard to say. Shumate's the current Nickelback, and he was very highly rated himself. He'll likely push Collinsworth for the starting SS position.

Redfield probably gets some reps as the Nickel or Dime back, but I don't expect him to start. Our coaching staff is so good at player development that time in the program seems to matter much more than :s:s coming out of high school.

Or he could come in and be ready day one. I'm on Whiskey's side with this though.

He will play right away and be an elite ball hawking free safety when he gets on campus. He will play right away and is someone who ND doesn't have on the roster at that position in terms of athletic ability and upside. I doubt he starts but he will play.

He'll have to beat out Collinsworth, Farley or Shumate for that to happen. Possible, but I wouldn't bet on it at this point.

CB- Jackson
CB- Russell
FS- Farley
SS- Shumate
NB- Redfield

Why would he have to beat out Farley and Shumate if (assuming Shumate moves to safety from corner) he'd be the nickle? I think he is more than capable of beating out Collinsworth.

This is how I see it being also. Lo Wood coming back and I think Cole Luke will be a star. I see Redfield taking Farley spot before he leaves.

I could see him starting over Farley...he was ahead of him this year and the coaches LOVE Austin. And if Slaughter doesn't get his 6th year, then of course Collinsworth would be first in line to claim that spot as well. Plus when they see spread teams, he could start if they go nickle and move Slaughter to mark a corner. With Shumate and hopefully Redfield and Baratti and Procise and all those guys, hopefully we'll have a lot of valuable options at our safety spots and when teams go 4-5 wide.

I see your guys' point, but I disagree. I think Collinsworth will play a ton of special teams and play in a backup role, but I think Farley has played great this year and certainly better than anything we have seen from Collinsworth (not his fault, but the truth). Baratti got time in this year and will be a more athletic version of Collinsworth next year. Add a possible 6th year for Slaughter (would be most excellent), Prosise and a possible addition of Redfield... and I don't see Collinsworth starting as a probable scenario. Not completely out of the question, but I would think that the odds are currently against him.

I'm just happy thinking of the depth. And also the impact from some of these guys on special teams.
