Who has been saying Russel would make a great CB? Sherm? Philly? Too lazy to scroll back through the pages. Well....

Speaking of cornerbacks, Kelly said freshmen KeiVarae Russell and Davonte' Neal could both get a look at that position in August. The 6-0, 177-pound Russell was recruited as a running back, the 5-10, 175-pound Neal as a wide receiver.

From the recent SBT article.

Thanks for posting this on Russells page. I was too tired last night to put it on both their profiles.

I still feel like keivarae should have the ball in his hands on offense, but if he can prove himself at cb, I rather see him get more reps on defense than Davonte. I want Davonte to get as many reps with the first team offense has he can. We need a guy like him day one.

With my opinions stated, I still trust whatever the coaches want to do.

Word! I've been saying Russell should be a corner before signing day! I want Neal on offense, but if it keeps him happy getting a couple of plays on defense I'm cool with that.

I just think Russell's body type and the way he can flip his hips is perfect fit for a corner. He could be a good offensive player, but I just think he has more upside at corner.

Neal needs to have the ball in his hands...russell would be a good fit at CB. Very good chance at early playing time, maybe as a sophomore

I wish we could keep both of them on offense, but i think we are a little too thin at CB to have two talents like that sitting behind a number of upper classmen on O

it would have "appeared" that he would prob redshirt on offense so if i am him and i want to see the field as soon as possible...i would be all over this! quick and athletic! we need more of that in the secondary

When i see his highlights i just see the perfect player for the rb/slot position (reminds me of Reggie Bush). He is so smooth in and out of his cuts. But I guess that fluidness can translate to DB

The loss of Tee and Darby, and the addition of Carlisle and Neal, were what sealed the deal for me.

In the "hybrid" spot you have Neal, Carlisle, Riddick, and GAIII competing for touches. I don't see a huge downside to getting the kid involved on defense to start fall practice.

Yeah this is a good idea to see what he brings to the table at CB now and if he can make a difference there. It may also be his quickest way to see the field this year if that's something he wants to do(play as a FR).

Right. While I think Riddick is an underrated WR who will do a lot better with a scrambling QB, the transition was tough.

Really what it would accomplish is getting a quick feel for whether KR has big-time potential while creating better reps for the WRs. Plus, a year at CB can't be the worst thing for the kid if he switches back to WR. He'll know his enemy a lot better.

I know it was only the spring game, but I thought Cam Mcdanial looked pretty good as a DB, so the coaches IMO did a pretty good job of converting him from off to def. There was the one play where I think Golson or GAIII made a few guys miss in the spring game, then he turned it to the other sidelines and Cam saw it the whole time and chased him down and put a smack on him out of bounds. I think having a RB converted to a DBwill really help on stopping the runs, now granted we need the DB's to pay more attention to the WR's but this can definitly help.

Keelio, I agree. Cam did play pretty well for just having switched positions. Kelly has done a good job with getting players to the position that they can excel at and also help the team out. I'm sure there is a lot of trial and error though.

Moved to CB and will wear #6 in first roster sheet of the fall practice.

I think Russel may turn out to be the best player in this class. I think he's going to get a ton of experience because he is at a position of need and I see him excelling. I predict he becomes an AA at some point in his ND career.

Ha, Sherm looks like a prophet.

I like this move. I still think Russell probably preserves a year of eligibility, barring any injury issues at CB, and moves back to RB for 2013 though, depending on how he does at CB and what players we get in the class of 2013 at CB and RB.

Russell is going to be really good, he has very good size and his quickness is advantage, he could be very very good down the line.

I'm not knocking him i just think there's players in the 12' class with a higher ceiling and potential then Russell.

Maybe. But Russell has a very high celing with what I mentioned in my previous post, he also has a 3.8 shuttle I believe.

So we will just under play Kiel, Neal, Shumate, Day, Ferguson and Brown? Those guys are pretty good from what i understand.

I get what you're saying and shuttle and 40 yd times are cute, but i'm not buying Russell will be the best out of the 12' class.

Unusual class. Small, but what's there is awesome! Don't forget Romeo!

How am I underplaying them? Davonte Neal is my favorite player in this class. All of the prospects have the potential to be good. I think you are underplaying Russell.
