FWIW, the Auburn people who think they'll end up at Auburn are sticking to the "They're delaying because they want to come here and need to make sure Armond is cleared first" story.
that's a bogus excuse.. the rule, as I understand it, is based on how many years of eligibility you have left, not how many you should have left.. it'll be interesting to see if the SEC allows this transfer to go through and ruin the sliver of credibility that conference has left

Wait, are they arguing that he theoretically has two years of eligibility left because he could get a medical redshirt for 2011, then could theoretically be "redshirted" in 2012 and play in 2013? I mean, I guess that would be two years on the team but, if true, that's some pretty stretched reasoning.
I guess if they're hoping the SEC just needs some kind of rationale to wedge him into the rule then there it is.
well if granting the waiver allows for a better chance for a highly touted recruit to come to their conference, that wouldn't necessarily be bad for the conference.. i think that's a decent enough incentive.. but that's just my opinion
Occam's Razor says, "No Armsteads for you, Auburn." Much more likely that Arik was set to announce for Cal as recently as yesterday, but Lupoi's departure from Cal has spoiled Plan A. Thus, he's waiting on Gus and Armond to return so they can compare notes and make a decision.
.
All Auburn posters believe (from the theory above) that Arik wants to go to Auburn but they're just making sure Armond can get cleared by SEC. FWIW.
Occam's Razor says, "No Armsteads for you, Auburn.
Yet Armond hasn't applied for such a waiver yet. Auburn literally has no reason to feel optimistic right now.
And the Auburn-guy still thinks (as of a couple hours ago) ND is the team to beat, but the Auburn fans apparently don't believe him. They're sold that Arik wants Auburn with no substantial info.

Nothing against you, i like your posts, but, I don't think anyone one of us has enough info to start using occam's razor.
You want to use that razor on a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don't wanna know about it, believe me.
I still fail to understand the appeal of Auburn, at least for someone not from the Deep South.
I know they have a good head coach and won the title last year, but over time they're like the fourth best program in the SEC West. And they're a pure football factory, liable to get busted by the NCAA at any moment.
I can maybe see it for Armond - he's already graduated and is looking for a one-year pit stop to boost his NFL chances and playing in the SEC is playing against the best.
But for Arik? For four/five years? I just don't get it. Seems like he's got a good head on his shoulders. He can't really go wrong at Notre Dame.
Perish the thought but perhaps he joins his brother at USC?

Is Armond's transfer an absolute, done deal? No chance he stays?

I agree 100% with everything you say...that being said auburn has going for them that they play in the best conference in America and the campus actually is quite nice as those who have been there can confirm. I was recruited to play baseball there and ultimately ended up going elsewhere with distance being a factor...but they definitely gave me something to think about.
I will tell you this, a few years ago a professor, who did grad work at the Univ of Toledo, strange guy, gave grades to athletes for free in his classes. As I remember, he did this with between two and three dozen players before the whole thing was exposed. Several players achived "A" quality work without ever having attended a class or taken a test. More than one of these students couldn't even identify what classroom or building in which the course was taught.
Talked about this with a friend of mine and we both agreed he was always pretty weird. I believe he is still teaching away at Auburn.
Well, in Auburn's defense, it's in a pretty cool college town, has decent science programs, and spends as much as anyone in the country on football/facilities. Fan bases/students are football fanatics too, which never hurts.
It's agricultural and engineering schools are good too. The current CEO of Apple went to Auburn, who also happens to be the highest paid CEO in the U.S. So I guess that makes his ROI for his Auburn degree like fifty kabillion percent.
