Its a damn spring game.
Half the board doesn't understand this concept.

I don't understand this idea. What else do you have to go by? He hasn't been in any games, and the spring game more closely resembles a real game than practice. If it wasn't for the botched snap he played an almost perfect game, and the other 3 QBs all looked to significantly worse. That counts for something: it shows that he is capable of playing at a high level. From none of the other 3 guys could you expect to get what you got from Golson today.

Just because you have nothing else to go by doesn't mean the Spring Game is any different.
Ask yourself this...if they played the game all over again tomorrow, could you say with any certainty that the QB "results" would be the same as today's game. Would it really be that surprising if Hendrix had 2TDs and no picks and Golson had a pick and 1 TD.
The QB will be chosen based on the remaining practices. Not saying you are doing this, Rhode, but people want to proclaim Golson the starter because he had the best spring game. Is that really fair? I want to Golson to start because he has all the physical tools and an extra year of eligibility over Hendrix. But Hendrix might be better. I'm not willing to decide that from the results of a Spring game.
While that's obviously true, I think Kelly making it totally "live" was a message to both the players and the fans that we're not going by who's "good in practice" anymore or who "knows the offense" the best. Once the coin is tossed, all bets are off, and he knows that if he (Kelly) doesn't separate the players versus the pretenders this year, his seat is going to get hotter than a Lake of Fire. If he doesn't have a QB leader now (Golson, cough) then all of Irish Nation has to be questioning his decision-making.*
Oh, and not sure if this was already said*, but whoever coaches the TE's regarding their run-blocking is the man. The zone worked well, and I counted more than one "Koyak 1, Shembo 0".
*Just now watching the game on DVR, so I deeply apologize for any overlapping points with previous posters.
I mean i love the kids upside please don't get me wrong. He doesn't have the confidence from Coach Kelly. You guys are going off a couple series and some youtube highlights. Would i love to see Everett starting? For sure why wouldn't you off what you have seen. But when Kelly is saying hes all over the place this spring. Showing up late to meetings not always prepared. Him and Molnar didnt get along. There is a ton more going into this. He is the most gifted QB on the team but i am not excatly sure if he knows whats he's doing. Kelly did a lot of basic coaching with Everett. I mean i really hope the light goes on with him. But 75 percent of our fan base thinks hes the next RG3 or Denard Robinson right now. Lets all take a breather.
Right, I was with you 100% until this afternoon. But at this point, none of the stuff you mentioned should factor into the decision of whether he is the starter or not, because even if that is all true it clearly isn't impacting his ability to make plays and put up points. Missing meetings and being a little erratic in practice are things that could keep him from going from very good to great, but they should not keep him off the field. He is clearly the most talented guy through the air and with his feet. He will iron out some of the bumps in his game (and he does have them) as he goes, but RIGHT NOW he is the best option at QB even before he even starts to address one of those "bumps."

This would be difficult since Shembo was injured and didnt play
What did Tommy and Hendrix go against?
The stats would probably be different, but I'm not basing my opinion purely on stats (although they help). Golson can do things out there that the other guys can't do, and as of yet I have not seen him make the terrible throws that result in INTs that the other guys make.
Also, I don't get Kelly getting all on Golson's *** about the botched snap when he has two other guys just throwing the ball up in the air with no regard for the color shirt the person who catches it will be wearing. Especially when he has taken very few reps from under center. He will get there, but even if he doesn't, I'd take Golson (1) fumbling one snap every game or (2) taking every snap from shotgun the whole season than have Rees play ahead of him, and probably Hendrix, too, for that matter.
Golson has elite athletic ability has shown he can translate that to results in a game (or game-like situation). What else is there to know?
Half the people calling for Golson to start were Hendrix supporters before today because they had never watched any practice film. They are basing their opinion off a game that coaches across the country have publicly said is an exhibition to get fans excited. That's why I'm frustrated.
Golson did the best. Hendrix can't see LBs in pass coverage. Tommy just isn't good enough. And Kiel isn't ready.

This is what I have thought since FSU. But I still think Golson is going to be a star. Obviously, not based on today stats, I just think he is a gamer.
People act like Hendrix arm and legs are going to overcome the fact that he barely passed in highschool. While some insist highschool and college are nothing alike, this is true in terms of athleticism but not in terms of muscle memory and experience. All those reps against people at your level are invaluable. Its why Rees could compete with Dayne. Golson has more reps than anyone save Maty Mauk, and Golson was incredible with them.
The idea that you can't learn much from a mix tape is also silly. Coaches make offers on mix tapes all the time. Anyone can put together a few good reps, but not a lot of kids can put together 6 or 7 minutes of continuous TD passes and runs, one after the next, all of which showed a rare athleticism and play-making ability. Its not a guarantee, but I think you can tell there is a very good chance that Golson is going to be special.
