You always root for the teams ND has to play. It's really not complicated lol.
most of the time I'd agree.
just will be strange against an ND grad.

Well, think of it this way. FSU has a better shot of making the playoffs than GT, better that FSU lose so we have a better chance of getting in.
Disagree. I want USC to go 11-1 every year, with their one loss against us. Michigan can go 0-12 for all I care.and USC
I don't think FSU has a better shot because they are the better team, I think it is all about their respective schedules. I think GT will win this game, but they have a much harder schedule than FSU. GT has to play ND, NCar, Duke, Clemson, Pitt, VT, Virginia, Miami and Georgia. That's all outside of the FSU matchup.
FSU on the other hand, has Boston College, Clemson, Miami, Louisville and Florida as their "tough" games outside of GT. Total cakewalk.

Chance Florida State wins, underdog games bolded:Exactly. Better than FSU drops a game against GT, as I have no confidence that any of those other teams will get the job done. Who has the best shot to beat FSU among those other teams, Clemson? Louisville? They should be favored in just about every game. Better that they lose to GT if they can provide an upset.
So they should now be underdogs in the majority of their games.Note, this is pre-Golson transfer.
Chance Florida State wins, underdog games bolded:
Texas State - 93%
South Florida - 94%
Boston College - 82%
Wake Forest - 80%
Miami - 65%
Louisville - 74%
Georgia Tech - 45%
Syracuse - 89%
Clemson - 39%
NC State - 72%
Chattanooga - 100%
Florida - 48%

Preseason FPI is a pretty complicated formula that includes head coach tenure, recruiting classes, prior season offensive, defensive, and special teams efficiencies, and returning starters. Not sure what Florida has done recently that would suggest they should be favored.

Until you get to bowl season. Then it's ESS-EE-SEE, ESS-EE-SEE!Never understood the Alabama/Auburn fan concept of rooting for you opponent to go winless. "I'm a Bama fan, I root for The Tide and whoever's playing Auburn."

Hear! Hear!
I want every opponent to go 11-1. Let them miss out on an NC by a 1 point loss to ND on a FG made at the gun or a FG blocked on the final play. "Oooooh, you were that close Trojans, what a shame."
When Michigan was on our schedule I rooted for their losses in the Winningest Percentage battle but I wanted enough wins to help our Strength of Schedule. Now that they're off our schedule, 0-12 would be acceptable.
Never understood the Alabama/Auburn fan concept of rooting for you opponent to go winless. "I'm a Bama fan, I root for The Tide and whoever's playing Auburn." Where's the glory in beating a doormat? It's like scheduling IAA Southeast Nowhere State ... yeah, right, they do that too.
Based on what, exactly? Is it his fumbles or his undersized frame that give you such great confidence? If he plays and starts he'll be one of the best QB's in the country.

Disagree. I NEVER root for USC to win. I enjoy a loss by them (and the subsequent fall out and schadenfreude) almost as much as I do a Notre Dame win.
(Although, my hatred for the SEC MIGHT make me root for them against Bama next year. Ugh.)

He absolutely has some game. He's had some great moments. He's also been wildly inconsistent. I would take a consistently B+ quarterback over a quarterback who's occasionally an A+ and occasionally an F, because those F moments can lose you football games.Because you have always hated Golson, you'll never see a thing he did as being good. I mean, you once said that a throw by Zaire in a spring practice where there was no threat of being hit better than any throw Golson had ever made (better than Golson's 4th qt bomb to Brown on the road in a tie game that essentially allowed us to get to the playoffs; better than Golson's p-rod to Eifert in the end zone against Stanford as we were losing in a driving rain, etc).
When you say things like that, it's hard to take anything you say about Golson seriously. Save for a complete bs call by the refs, he was masterful against against FSU and essentially went for 4 TD's against 1 pick, on the road, against the defending champs in what should have been a comeback victory. Obviously ignored by you, but it (and many other moments) showed that the kid has some game.
I'm not sad he's gone bc of all the other baggage, but there's a reason why half the SEC wanted him, and he landed at a school that's been 25-1 the past 2 years.

The poster to whom I responded said "one of the best QBs in the country," and I think that's a remarkable stretch of the imagination. He was 25th last year in Total QBR. That's not "one of the best QBs in the country."
edit - I thought this was a response to my post...
Based on he's an ND grad, took us to a natty, etc.. I've never been a huge EG fan as a QB. I think he was overhyped even when he was playing good. That said, he was Irish. He may not have been the leader we needed, and he may have been a TO machine at times, but he stuck with us during the academic issues when he could have transferred, gave us 4 years, and graduated. 40 year decision completed, and now he's doing what he thinks is best for his dream of jumping to the NFL. I don't think he'll ever make it in the NFL, but I don't fault him for following his dream.
Feel the same as you. I was never really on board the hype train, especially after the academic stuff came out. I never wished him any ill will, and I supported him while he was the QB though. Still, in retrospect, I kind of wish he would have moved on after the academic issue. It would have given Zaire a full year to mature and we could be talking about his second year as a full starter right now. Plus it would have given Kizer more 2nd team reps and we wouldn't be so worried about the QB position.
