Huh...I'm reading this as Jarron saying don't let the door hit you?

Anyhow, on Power Hour (as a poster above alluded to) they stated that a number of players on the team knew this was coming. They in turn brought it to Kelly's attention. That's when Kelly had the sit down with Golson and Golson assured Kelly he was "going nowhere".

i don't think he meant it that way...but it certainly did come out that way..."THEY WILL CHANGE ANYTHING FOR YOU"

Probably alluding to Kelly and Golson not seeing eye to eye and Kelly doing it his way while Golson had different thoughts.

They see eye to eye...in a 5-9 to a 5-10 kinda way.

SU self-reported 10 violations in the case and the violations found, “included impermissible academic assistance and services, the head basketball coach’s failure to promote an atmosphere of compliance and monitor his staff, and the school’s lack of control over its athletics program.”

Possibly this with his academic past and what just happened at SU. Would fall in line with the insult theory. You'd have to think with Everett leading people to believe he was all in for '15 that he rubbed a few of the teammates the wrong way.

I disagree.

Doubt JJ would be immature enough to publicly insult someone on Twitter.

It was being tweeted around earlier that Golson to South Carolina "is not happening."

Did I miss that in the thread already?

I'm not really worried about where he goes. Whatever, good luck to him. It will sting a bit though if he lights it up and stops turning it over every other possession.

I don't really care either but my fear is he starts to tear it up and Malik gets hurt..... He will wish we had a veteran back up... but good luck to him

Just spit ballin' here with hindsight, but how many of us noticed how well the team responded against USC with MZ behind the wheel? How many times did we see EG walk right past BK when BK wanted to talk to him? We saw him sit by himself on the bench more than once.

I'm not putting EG down, but maybe he hasn't been the best teammate? Not a bad teammate, but just not doing the extra things to get better and win over your teammates, which is why some may have approached BK? Like I said, just spit ballin'.

as mentioned on isd....they kind of alluded to this...they said that malik's recruiting class is soo tight that they wouldn't have caused waves but their confidence seems to be w/ malik...as evidence of them always rallying around him when he comes in

Yeah, it's been mentioned a few times here. Everett definitely seemed to take himself out of the mix in the USC game, and rather than help coach Malik up on the sidelines as other players have he was content to sit by himself on the bench. From day 1 once Malik committed he rallied players to his class and has been a leader, you heard it from other players and saw it on social media, and he's shown that on the field. They seem to respond to his energy, so hopefully come fall we won't have to worry about EG leaving if the offense is humming along fine.

I had mentioned earlier in the thread that I am hearing no go on Everett to S Carolina. I have a friend in the athletic dept that says it is highly unlikely that the SEC will give him the waiver needed.

Also, EG and the old ball coach did not hit it off during his recruitment.

That's a bummer... Golson's turnovers, combined with OBC's potential for sideline headset, visor and playsheet tosses, could have been college football gold.

Someone will take a shot with Everett. He has a great arm and outstanding potential. He is also experienced. However, Everett is unlikely to find what he wants most. IMHO, he is looking for a guaranteed starting job that he cannot lose with a quality team. However, he also wants to make sure that he won't be yanked from the starting role if he flounders for a game or two. That's the big hang-up. Few coaches are going to jeopardize their own job by continuing to play an under-performing quarterback.

The worst thing about the 2014 season is that Everett most likely began to question himself. His confidence was shaken by the way he performed at the end of the season. Kelly did his best to bolster Everett's confidence by continuing to play him when other coaches would have brought in the back-up. When Kelly's support began to waiver in the second half of the USC game and Zaire was named the starter for the bowl game, Golson had to question his own future at Notre Dame. It was obvious that Kelly's unconditional support had reached an end. Everett would have to drastically reduce his turnovers to be able to hold the starter's job for the entire 2015 season. After the finish to the previous season, Golson had to be questioning his ability to play near error-free football. He knew that Kelly would not hesitate to replace him with Zaire if he faltered.

If he is going to have a shot at an NFL career, he will have to totally eliminate the three and four turnover games that plagued him in 2014. Having lost his coach's confidence, he can't do that with Zaire in the rear-view mirror. Moving on was his best option. If he can find a home where there is no viable back-up option, everything might work out best for him.

I listened to both II and ISD podcasts recently. ISD said EG was telling everyone that he was staying. Mike said he was shocked by the news. But the more he talked about it, you could tell that maybe he wasn't as shocked as originally stated. I think it was him who mentioned that someone on the team probably tipped off BK that EG was leaving. Mike and Christian both seemed to think that EG's mind was made up as soon as those rumors surfaced about EG and LSU post bowl game. They spoke about the circumstance of him not having a place lined up when he made the announcement. The whole "get the new job before leaving the old job" scenario. EG basically got his diploma and then bounced...and in the process of waiting, made everyone believe he was staying. I mean, everyone was reporting that EG was ahead of MZ all spring and would probably get the nod as starter. He stole Malik's reps. He stole Kizer's reps. Yet he had no intention of staying.

Irish Illustrated seemed a lot less shocked and a lot less concerned. They basically said it's always been something with EG. And it's a testament to his character and his relationship with BK...or lack thereof. He will be missed (as a passer) but everyone has full confidence in the offense and in Malik.

There was a lot said, so I know I didn't type it all. But I just wanted to make a quick post regarding the podcasts and this situation. And for the record, they all seem to think FSU is the likely landing spot and no one believes he's a NFL-caliber QB.

Nothing has been said and my thoughts are pure speculation. The J.Jones tweet says a bunch along with this. The team was in a bad tailspin and they seemed divided 2nd half last year, (#10and#36) especially. But It just makes ya wonder bout some deeper issues played out pretty perfectly in Golson's favor.

Idk, I bet the SEC wouldn't mind granting a waiver if they decide that Golson will truly elevate Florida as a team... I'm sure they'd like McElwain and his Florida team to help get the SEC East back up to strength ASAP.

My reference was alluding to even before the USC game. The year before his suspension, he would walk past Kelly at times and seemed disassociated with teammates. How many times was there a TO and no one patted him on the helmet as they came off the field? Me thinks this goes back a ways. Even if I'm right, I hope things turn out well for him.

Oh no, I'm with you there. I've never been sold on Golson, I was pulling for Tommy in 2012  EG often seemed disconnected from the team, before and after the benching. Maybe he has a touchy personality, none of us can really say on this end. There were rumors that Golson and Kelly didn't see eye to eye even back in 2012, and we did talk about times when Golson would come off the sideline and walk right past coach talking to him or he would argue after making a mistake. Kelly was noticeably cooler with Golson than he was with Tommy or Crist, maybe it was because EG was a freshmen at that time, but he was cooler with him in 2014 too in comparison to previous QBs. In any case, I think the team responded well to Zaire getting inserted into the USC game and starting against LSU. I think Zaire is committed to the team long term, those are his guys and a lot of his class on the field right now.
